Darkness crept underfoot. It moved like vines, curling and tightening around Elia’s ankles. One sharp pull would pull her down, falling into oblivion for eternity. She did not scramble, did not claw to freedom. Panic was stifling, it would choke effort from her and then the darkness would win. A feeling bubbled beneath the surface as Elia dove into the depths of herself to find the spark of power that lit her soul. I do not fear you. Light exploded from Elia’s chest. It spread to her limbs, enclosing her in a golden cocoon. The darkness burst into ashes that fell to the ground like snow.
