in my boundless, infinite compassion, i am going to give you the benefit of the doubt and answer this question genuinely, so that people reading this and maybe even you, anon, can be lifted from the depths of ignorance. all gifts of thanks and tribute can be sent to my PO box. you’re welcome.

so let’s define some terms, in simple words that even you can understand! these are going to be oversimplifications. i think it’s important to start simple when we’re introducing such big concepts

lesbian: a woman who is romantically or sexually attracted exclusively to other women.

gay: a person of any gender who is romantically or sexually attracted exclusively to their same gender

straight: a man or woman who is romantically or sexually attracted exclusively to the other gender

so in this case, straight aces are, congrats anon, straight! as are straight trans people! wowie!!

“but wait!” you cry out, weeping tears of confusion. “that means straight aces aren’t queer!” 

i take your shoulders in my kind, gentle hands, wipe away your tears, and press a small platonic kiss to your damp forehead. “no, my dear pupil. notice i also said straight trans people are straight. and yet, as i’m sure you already know, straight trans people are still a part of our community. can you guess why?”

you shake your head tearfully. “no… i know they are, because the internet told me, but i… i’ve never thought about why.”

i pet your hair. “shh, it’s alright. we all have to think things through on our own, to learn and grow as people. here, let me walk you through it. straight trans people are included in the community because we include everyone who isn’t cishet. do you know what that word means? it expands into cisgender heterosexual heteroromantic.”

you nod, taking down notes in the notebook i have thoughtfully provided you.

“do you know what ace is short for? for extra credit, can you define aro too?”

your lip wobbles, afraid of getting it wrong, afraid of failure. “a-asexual? and… uh… aromantic?”

i nod and clap, and you brighten again. “correct! and what is asexual not? actually, here, i’ll do this one for you-” i write a note on the chalkboard. “-heterosexual!”

“s-so that means…” you look down at the complex equations that are flowing from your hands, as your subconscious puts the pieces together without your conscious thought. “straight aces are straight… but… but not cishet! which means, like straight trans people, they’re queer!”

“correct!” i cry, picking you up from the floor. “you did it! i’m so proud of you!”

I wanted to do something completely different. And I realized I had never really used Adrien’s character that much. Apart from the standard salt. So I decided to give him a better voice. Test my skills with a new character.

Adrien didn’t know what happened. What snapped inside of him? But he just knew that, one day, while his father was giving him a lecture and laying out demands, a funny little word popped in to his head; no. Then he started to wonder if he could say no. Then he heard Marinette her new internship only allowed her to work so many hours because she was only a kid. Then he heard something magical; child labor laws. He looked them up and was amazed. He wanted to know more; wanted to know what his options were. So he went to Marinette and Nino. Then explained that he had rights. When he mentioned about getting taken out of school, they gave him options of how to retaliate.

           Nevertheless, it would be weeks before he decided to implement his new idea; not daring to yet. When he finally struck, he knew exactly what the final straw had bene.

“You’ll be taking Miss Rossi to the gala next weekend,” Gabriel told his son.

           Adrien blinked, “No.”

Well the lovesquare is currently a ‘love square’ because of the barrier of secret identities. Each aspect off the love square has an important aspect of a relationship imbued within it that makes a good relationship.

Adrinette: Care

Ladrien: Attraction

Ladynoir: Trust

Marichat: Understanding

When all these aspects come together it makes for a good relationship.

Plus, watch the interactions between the love square. The good AND the Bad. Even at the most sour interactions, there is never any hatred, malice or even disrespect. Both parties are honest with each other (except for confessing but not from lack of trying mind you). They work with each other well, they have a respect for one another.

Can you argue that some bits are more extreme, to an extent yea. But its never in a way that creeps the other out. And it gets corrected.

Is Marinette’s crush on Adrien kind of stalkery and superficial at times? Yup! (”Adrien, the fragrance” anyone?) But she’s 13/14 years old and never had a crush before! She’s learning too. She makes an effort to get to know him better. She’s thoughtful of his needs and is willing to put them above her own. (Not taking credit for the scarf is a fantastic example.) 

And isn’t that how ALL relationships start? Infatuation followed by learning about the other until it develops into something deeper? They can’t do that yet with all their secrets, and that’s the only thing holding her back.

(A side rant about Adrien’s mental health, because I have half an opportunity. I get back on topic at the end.)

I once had someone comment on one of my fics about Adrien being pushy. It was basically, “yeah, I know he’s been through some stuff, but he’s smart, so that’s no excuse.”

EXCUSE ME? 

Hey, person with depression, you should be smart enough to figure out that you shouldn’t be sad.

Hey, person with anxiety, wow, you’re scared of something so mundane? If you were smart, you would know that you don’t need to be scared of that.

Hey, person with PTSD, are you still bothered by that? It was 15 years ago. You must not be smart enough to realize that you aren’t in danger anymore. 

You know who *should* be smart enough to know not to be mentally ill? Psychologists. You know who has high levels of mental illness? Psychologists. If they’re not “smart enough” to figure out how to stop being mentally ill, NO ONE CAN. You need TIME, and PROPER TREATMENT, sometimes MEDICATION, and a whole lot of UNDERSTANDING AND SUPPORT from those around you! Oh, and to STOP BEING ACTIVELY ABUSED. It’s not a measure of how smart you are. 

Adrien’s suffered emotional abuse and isolation, probably his entire life. His behaviors are totally understandable, and aren’t going to go away if he thinks about them hard enough!

Adrien’s been through some stuff. His father is dismissive, cold, uncaring, emotionally neglectful to the extreme. Adrien’s lost is mother and has had to deal with his grief alone because NO ONE CARES. He feels like he has to bend over backward to please his father so he can get a little attention and love from him, and then that attention and love is usually withheld anyway. Even though he tries so hard, he can never be perfect enough for his father.

As for being “smart enough” to know how he should behave? He’s been isolated his whole life. He’s never seen how normal people treat each other, so how would be know what to do? 

Yeah, Adrien is clingy and demanding sometimes. YOU WOULD BE TOO. Ladybug is one of like three people who cares for him unconditionally, whose opinion of him isn’t based on his looks, and who doesn’t abandon him as soon as he can’t contribute anything (as seen in her treatment of him in Reverser). He’s understandably terrified of losing her (as seen in Sandman). He desperately wants her attention and has NO IDEA how to get it. All he has is his interactions with his parents, tutors, and Chloe (and from watching anime, which we all know is a fantastic resource on how to behave like a normal human being). 

Going back to the original point, I think their dynamic after the reveal is going to be really fantastic for both of them. Marinette’s definitely got Adrien on a pedestal, but she knows a lot of Cat Noir’s faults already and doesn’t hold them against him. She knows he can be annoying, pushy, petty, and have badly timed humor, but she considers him to be one of her best friends anyway. Combining the two sides of him in her mind will take away a lot of the superficiality of her crush and let her love the whole person completely. Which is exactly what she needs!

Someone once pointed out all the presents that Marinette planned for Adrien for the next zillion years was very thoughtful, and you know who would have cried to know that Ladybug did that for him? Adrien. She’s planning on us being together that long? She took the time to make these for me? But there’s so many! It must have taken forever! She wants to be prepared with presents so I’m always sure to get one because she knows that my father got me a pen for my birthday every year? I’m this important to her? How can I possibly be so important to her?!

Can you imagine how he’s going to feel when he finally understands that she’s committed to him and isn’t going anywhere? 

It might take a while. I imagine that during their first real couple fight, he’s going to be terrified that he’s messed up and willing to do anything to make it better. It might be like that for years even, but Marinette loves him so completely, and is not subtle in her demonstrations of it, that it will eventually help him see that their foundation is secure. 

He won’t have to fight for her attention. Or earn it. Or beg for it. Or be perfect in order to deserve it. She will love him unconditionally and have no problem letting him know all about it in as many ways as possible, and will be absolutely okay with giving him all the emotional support and understanding he could want and that is exactly what he needs!

Miraculous - How the Show Came To Be

First, a few universe things:

(1) This takes place after the season 3 finale, so Chloe’s pissed about losing her miraculous and now hates Ladybug. (2) Since it’s after Miracle Queen, Alya can no longer be Rena Rouge. Since everyone but Chloe was brainwashed when it happened, they have no clue their identities were compromised, and so they continue to keep their superhero identities a secret. Chloe is too mad about who Ladybug chose and the loss of her own Miraculous to ever out anyone (she’s afraid of the backlash or making the former heroes more popular by letting the public know who they were), but she does scoff at Alya, Nino, Max, and Kim more frequently. They’re not sure why. (3) The cat’s out of the bag that Nino knows that Marinette is hard-crushing on Adrien, so she can be a lovesick sap around him (she still tries not to do it too frequently because it’s SUUUUUPER weird to gush about her love for Adrien to his best friend)

“Action figures?” Alya doubled over, holding her sides as she laughed. “I think that’s the worst argument you’ve made yet. Everyone has Ladybug action figures. And posters. And costumes. That just makes you a fanboy! You’re no simp!”

Marinette cautiously neared the heated debate Alya was having with Adrien on the front steps of their school. Inching beside Nino, Marinette gestured to her best friend arguing with the love of her life. “What on Earth-?”

“Shh.” Nino waved for Marinette to keep it down.

“Fine then. I assisted her by agreeing to be bait for Gorizilla, that way he would be distracted enough for Ladybug’s plan to work.” Adrien stood tall as he crossed his arms in front of his chest. He smirked at Alya, clearly mentally telling her, “check.”

“He was your own bodyguard! He tracked you clear across Paris. You would have been bait whether or not you agreed to it. Also, it wouldn’t have mattered. Ladybug would have come up with a different plan if you had told her no.”

“Nino,” Marinette whispered, “What’s going on?”

“Simp-off,” he whispered back. “No offense to my best bud, but my girl has this in the bag.”

“Simp-off?”

“Who’s the bigger Ladybug simp.”

Marinette blinked in confusion before staring at Adrien – of all people – battling Alya for this title.

Before the debate could continue, the warning bell rang.

“This isn’t over, Alya.” Adrien stared her down with determination.

“Whatever you say, Fanboy,” Alya teased before gesturing for him to take the lead as they headed inside.

“Okay, what started that whole thing?” Marinette gestured wildly at Alya and Adrien heading towards the locker room.

“No clue.” Nino shrugged and shook his head. “I got here late too. It got pretty heated just before you arrived. Told you my girl would win, though. Alya! Wait up!” He flagged Alya down and sprinted for her as she popped back out of the locker room.

Trying to figure out what could have brought the debate on in the first place, Marinette slowly wandered towards her locker.

“Simp?” Tikki whispered.

“I’m hoping they mean ‘willing to do literally anything for someone’. Even so, Adrien wanting to simp for Ladybug?” Marinette dreamily sighed. Hidden inside Marinette’s purse, Tikki gave a knowing glance up at her bearer.

gabriel/hawkmoth: such negative emotion...where could this be coming from?

adrien, in his room all sad because ladybug probably rejected him: sigh
