Book Review #56 of 2026--
The Woods, Volume 1: The Arrow by James Tynion IV. Rating: 3.75 stars.
I really am just floating through the comic world at this point. This is my third or fourth James Tynion IV comic and I had a good time? But I've also rated one of his works a 1 star before so...who even knows at this point. In this one, we follow a group of high schoolers following their recent...teleportation(?) to another world. During school one day, there's a giant earthquake and the school, the students, and its staff are suddenly on a completely different planet in a completely different solar system. Can they survive? Can they keep order? Can they avoid getting bitten by things that make bugs fly out of their skin?
This felt like the smallest tip of an iceberg but I had a good time reading this one. I've already got the next two reserved at my local library. The only real struggle I had was that it was an introduction and nothing more. I had more questions at the end than what I started with. But these teenagers are all pretty compelling. Even the creepy one that talked to the Arrow. I also just really enjoy a good SciFi so I'm intrigued about where they landed, how they got there, and why they were placed there.
Overall, this was just a fun and quick read and I'm excited to get to more of the comics soon.
