Quick tips for writing Sleep DeprivationÂ
â˝ Memory becomes absolute garbage. Like âwhy am I in the kitchen?â garbage. âWhat was I saying?â garbage. Their brain is running on buffering screens and regret.
â˝ Fine motor skills? Ha. Theyâre dropping everything. Pens. Phones. Entire moral compass. Theyâre basically a malfunctioning claw machine.
⽠Hallucinations creep in. That jacket on the chair? Suddenly a person. That noise? Definitely doom. Everything becomes mildly haunted.
⽠Time gets weird. Five minutes feel like a year. A full hour disappears and they swear they blinked wrong.
⽠Irritation skyrockets. They get mad at chairs. At air. At gravity. At the audacity of other humans continuing to exist.
⽠Their voice sounds weird. Slow, scratchy, like they swallowed sand.
â˝ They walk like a drunk baby giraffe. Walls suddenly jump closer. Floors rise unexpectedly. Coordination said: âIâm out.â
â˝ Zoning out becomes a hobby. They stare at random objects like theyâre trying to understand quantum mechanics.
⽠Vision blurs in and out. Like someone smeared Vaseline over their eyeballs out of spite.
â˝ Their body just hurts. Not a dramatic pain, just the âwhy does my skeleton feel like itâs buzzing?â pain.
â˝ Food cravings go feral. Theyâd fight someone for a stale cookie.
â˝ Terrible choices. They will absolutely say âIâm fineâ while making decisions that end in disaster.
⽠Random emotional implosions. Crying because their sock feels wrong? Yes.
⽠Cold hands. Cold feet. Cold heart. (Okay maybe not the last one, but it feels like it.)
Hey since TERFs buried the original, higher quality recording, hereâs the only surviving recording of trans activist Sylvia Riveraâs infamous âY'all Better Quiet Downâ speech, along with full transcription, now free and open on Archive.org. how to avoid repetitive writing? like reusing phrases and words too much
How to Avoid Repetitive Writing
1 - Avoid overusing conjunctions (and, for, but, yet, etc.)
Why You're Overusing Conjunctions
2 - Avoid starting sentences the same way over and over...
How to Avoid Repetition with Sentence Beginnings
3 - Avoid repeating dialogue tags...
Avoiding Repetition with Dialogue Tags
4 - Avoid repetitive emotional/body language descriptions...
Struggling with Repetitive Body Language
5 - Avoid repetition due to excessive filter word use...
Guide: Understanding Filter Words
Bonus: Improve Your Vocabulary!
1) Use a thesaurus to diversify your vocabulary and eliminate repeated words (when appropriate.) Just remember that just because a word is a synonym doesn't mean it's the right choice. For example, you wouldn't want to replace "cat" with "tomcat" unless it's a male cat.
2) Look for "word of the day" calendars, blogs, apps, social media pages, etc. For example, Merriam-Webster has a "Word of the Day" e-mail you can subscribe to.
3) Read, read often, and read a variety of things. Books, short stories, fan-fiction, newspapers, magazine articles, blog posts, comics, graphic novels, poetry... the more you read, the better. Pay attention to unfamiliar words and try to figure out their meaning, then look them up to see if you're right.

more on writing muslim characters from a hijabi muslim girl
- hijabis get really excited over pretty scarves - they also like to collect pins and brooches - we get asked a lot of questions and it can be annoying or it can be amusing, just depends on our mood and personality and how the question is phrased - common questions include: - ânot even water?â (referring to fasting) - hijabis hear a lot of âdo you sleep in that?â (we donât) and âwhere is your hair?â (in a bun or a braid, usually) - âis it mooze-slim or mozzlem?â (the answer is neither, itâs muslim, with a soft s and accent on the first syllable) - âee-slam or iz-lamb?â (itâs iss-laam, accent on the first syllable) - âhee-job?â (heh-jahb, accent on the second syllable)
- âkor-an?â (no. quran. say it like koor-annn, accent on the second syllable) - people tend to mess up our names really badly and you just get a sigh and a resigned nod or an awkward smile, maybe a nickname instead - long hair is easy to hide, short hair is harder to wrap up - hijab isnât just covering hair, itâs also showing as little skin as possible with the exception of face, hands, and feet, and not wearing tight/sheer clothing - that applies to men too, people just donât like to mention it ( i wonder why) - henna/mehendi isnât just for special occasions, youâll see people wearing it for fun - henna/mehendi isnât just for muslims, either, itâs not a religious thing - henna/mehendi is not just for women, men also wear it, especially on their weddings - there are big mehendi parties in the couple of nights before eid where people (usually just women and kids) gather and do each otherâs mehendi, usually just hands and feet - five daily prayers - most muslim kids can stutter through a couple verses of quran in the original arabic text by the age of seven or eight, it does not matter where they live or where theyâre from or what language they speak natively - muslim families tend to have multiple copies of the quran - there are no âversionsâ of the quran, there has only ever been one. all muslims follow the exact same book - muslims have no concept of taking Godâs name in vain, we call on God at every little inconvenience - donât use islamic phrases if you donât know what they mean or how to use them. we use them often, inside and outside of religious settings. in islam, it is encouraged to mention God often and we say these things very casually, but we take them very seriously - Allahu Akbar means âGod is Greatestâ (often said when something shocks or surprises us, or if weâre scared or daunted, or when something amazing happens, whether it be good or bad; itâs like saying âoh my godâ) - Subhan Allah means âGlory be to Godâ (i say subhan Allah at the sky, at babies, at trees, whatever strikes me as pleasant, especially if itâs in nature) - Bismillah means âin the name of Godâ and itâs just something you say before you start something like eating or doing your homework - In Shaa Allah means âif God willsâ (example: youâll be famous, in shaa Allah) (itâs a reminder that the future is in Godâs hands, so be humble and be hopeful)
- Astaghfirullah means âi seek forgiveness from Allahâ and itâs like âgod forgive meâ - Alhamdulillah means âall thanks and praise belong to Godâ and itâs just a little bit more serious than saying âthank godâ (example: i passed my exams, alhamdulillah; i made it home okay, alhamdulillah) - when i say we use them casually, i really mean it - teacher forgot to assign homework? Alhamdulillah - our version of âamenâ is âameenâ - muslims greet each other with âassalamu alaikumâ which just means âpeace be on youâ and itâs like saying hi - the proper response is âwalaikum assalamâ which means âand on you be peaceâ and itâs like saying âyou tooâ
As a Muslim this post is so very important and it makes me so happy that it gives the small facts and details that one might be unaware of or confused about.
characters raised to be tools
Weapons. Trained, tested, forged in steel and fire. Failure is an inevitability that ends in death. Pain should not be felt--it should be recognized, familiar, and inconsequential
Martyrs. In the form of servants and princes, of leaders and underdogs. If blood is necessary, the martyr will lift their hands and offer it all
Shields. Like tempering a sword, but only to bear and not to lash out. Wounds are medals--not symbols of pride, but symbols of worth. A pretty shield is useless; scars mean a job well done
Experiments. Raised on the cold comfort of a lab table. Restraints are only necessary when they're not in their right mind. Is it honorable, to be twisted beyond recognition? Or is it just a necessary evil?
Monsters. Cruelty, caution, and regarding one as a creature beyond reasonable thought is tempering in its own right. But if you keep a leash at the right length, perhaps the massecre won't reach you. One can hope.
Idols. Pretty face, pretty name, pretty hands around their shoulders and throat. There to seduce, manipulate, force any feeling to come to the surface and twist it to their favor. Any genuinity stays locked behind the guilded cage that surrounds their pretty little heart
Trophies. Status and wealth and the traditions that keep someone at their heels, on their knees, to display and serve and decorate one's ballroom.
Sacrifices. Drenched in honorable clothes, prepared and adored and cleansed. The gift of hope at the cost of one's life. Is it taken with no fight? How can you escape the ropes you were born in?
Ten questions to ask a friend who just read your novel
Here are ten questions to ask that will not put your friend in a tough spot, but will still give you some useful input on your novel:
1. At what point did you feel like âAh, now the story has really begun!â 2. What were the points where you found yourself skimming? 3. Which setting in the book was clearest to you as you were reading it? Which do you remember the best? 4. Which character would you most like to meet and get to know? 5. What was the most suspenseful moment in the book? 6. If you had to pick one character to get rid of, who would you axe? 7. Was there a situation in the novel that reminded you of something in your own life? 8. Where did you stop reading, the first time you cracked open the manuscript? (Can show you where your first dull part is, and help you fix your pacing.) 9. What was the last book you read, before this? And what did you think of it? (This can put their comments in context in surprising ways, when you find out what their general interests are. It might surprise you.) 10. Finish this sentence: âI kept reading becauseâŚâ
Your friend is probably still going to tell you, âIt was good!â However, if you can ask any specific questions, and read between the lines, you can still get some helpful information out of even the most well-meaning reader.
Source: Examiner
This is really useful advice, especially if the person youâve shared your story with hasnât had much/any experience critiquing.Â
It does a great job of asking for a balance of both positive and negative feedback in a way thatâs comfortable for both the author and reader.Â
Ooh, these are excellent, and I have a hell of a time coming up with good questions to get more than a cycle of âI liked it!â âGreat, what did you like about it?â ââŚIt was good?â
If your plot feels flat, STUDY it! Your story might be lacking...
Stakes - What would happen if the protagonist failed? Would it really be such a bad thing if it happened?
Thematic relevance - Do the events of the story speak to a greater emotional or moral message? Is the conflict resolved in a way that befits the theme?
Urgency - How much time does the protagonist have to complete their goal? Are there multiple factors complicating the situation?
Drive - What motivates the protagonist? Are they an active player in the story, or are they repeatedly getting pushed around by external forces? Could you swap them out for a different character with no impact on the plot? On the flip side, do the other characters have sensible motivations of their own?
Yield - Is there foreshadowing? Do the protagonist's choices have unforeseen consequences down the road? Do they use knowledge or clues from the beginning, to help them in the end? Do they learn things about the other characters that weren't immediately obvious?
Thank you so much for this!

learning Abt American black history should radicalize people because 80% of it is just "yeah these white people committed hate crimes and mostly got away with it while black families and communities were left in shambles and still haven't had reparations met decades later"
white Americans will teach fabricated black history but remove the other half of it because it quite literally makes them look evil with the amount of murder and displacement they have caused to black communities. they'll teach you a portion of MLK but not the BPP or Tulsa race massacre
"we'll teach you a little bit about Rosa Parks but exclude every other black civil rights leader and activist especially Malcolm x + accomplishments enslaved black people made or their rebellion against their slavers"
"don't ask us what happened to that black neighborhood in 1985"
it's very fucking important to learn about black American history in full detail because they are dead set on erasing and fabricating our trauma filled history. it is detrimental to civil rights as a whole.
Andre White creates the Redacted History Podcast and also posts educational content on social media (@blackkout__). He covers Black history that's been erased, as well as how it intersects with current events. Please consider supporting his work on an ongoing basis on Patreon.
In a rational world, if a person were innocent, one would think that they would be champing at the bit to testify and clear their name, and not engineer the biggest cover up ever known.
And, it turns out, when the redactions are eliminated, Donald Trump is in the Epstein Files ONE MILLION TIMES.
He wasn't just Epstein's friend and client. He was his partner in crime.
Wake the fuck up, America.
