even if you use dude/man/bro gender neutrally it's actually really easy to just not call people that when they don't want to be called that. when you call someone that and they say "hey please don't do that" it's incredibly easy to say "oh sorry! I won't do that anymore" without trying to justify that you use it gender neutrally. it's also spectacularly easy to comprehend that most trans women will be bothered by calling them dude/man/bro and just preemptively remove those words from your vocabulary when you're talking to someone that you know is a trans woman. on a similar note it's pretty easy to decide to only use those words with women who you know personally and know will not be bothered by them because you never know when a stranger will be uncomfortable with those words.

you have to be careful reading too many things that are good/smart/well-written bc then you encounter something that isnt and you get confused like ? why didnt they just make this good ? were they stupid
