Throw Back Thursday: Meander and her kittens (from left: Dillydally, Mosey, Bolt, Skitter, Skip, Lollygag.) I love the way the reflection in the mirror looks like a painting.
There's a lot of overlap between horse people and car people. Well, I don't mean specifically about horses and cars. It's generally bad if those two things overlap. In spacetime at least. I forget what we were talking about. Can I start over?
One of the greatest fantasies of horse people is to have enough room to store and safely maintain a whole bunch of horses. That's the case for cars too, even if their maintenance needs are a little bit less dire. Ignoring a palomino for a couple of weeks is not going to just mean "clean the ethanol gunk out of the float bowl," it will probably mean that you're going to be facing some well-earned animal neglect charges. So maybe there are some differences, which is exactly why they invented poor horse people.
In the grand tradition of all mercantile capitalism, poor horse people love horses but don't have the money to maintain them. Instead, they are willing to do a bunch of unpaid labour in exchange for the opportunity to ride your horses (which they need anyway, in case the horses forget what being ridden is like, and decide to eat random toddlers instead.) Horses are a luxury good, after all. With cars, this doesn't really happen. They're more egalitarian. If you're too poor to be able to afford a car, you simply finance a Nissan Altima, and never think about voluntarily enslaving yourself to the guy down the street who has a investment-grade Ford GT.
How do we keep cars from following the line of horses? Surely we don't want them slowly becoming an obsolete mode of transportation, maintained by a harem of serfs. My proposal is that we make equines cheaper. Through massive overbreeding of horses, and the subsidy of horse food and conversion of urban Airbnbs to horse apartments, I think we can add at least ten million horses to our city over the next five years. Everyone who wants one will be able to have a horse, which will leave absolutely no time to own a project car. Of course, someone will still need to take care of those project cars, and I humbly volunteer.

imo the way you feel about groups it's fully socially acceptable to hate (like children or polyamorous people, among others) is the canary in the coal mine for underlying bigoted beliefs. if you're only supportive of marginalized groups when it's cool to do so, probably you don't actually care about marginalized groups, you care about other people thinking you care
there are 1 trillion people in the notes of this post saying "yeah! i mean i hate kids but they should have rights!" you hate kids? you mean you hate all members of an oppressed group solely for their membership in this group? right. why do you hate them? because they can't take care of themselves and need help? because they don't understand social norms and can be "annoying" and disrespect boundaries as a result? because they can be messy? because they don't understand things in the same way as you do? that's awesome. how do you feel about disabled people btw

i think i don't really vibe with most other fans of my favorite male characters is because they usually depict them too much of a man, and i am not interested in men, i am interested in The Character. and i am not saying that they should depict them as women, or nonbinary, or should depict them as feminine, no, not at all. but there's like, you know, you can depict a male character as The Character, and you can depict them as The Man. do you get me? like, i go to the fandom looking for art and fics, and it's just, regardless of his actual characterization, it's all just fantasizing about some kind of an abstract dominant patriarch, wearing my favorite character's face. it may be the most totally-wouldnt-have-normal-relationships (and sometimes even would-literally-abuse-you) kind of guy, and you join a dedicated space for his fans, and all they talk about is how they want to marry and start a tradcore 50s style nuclear family with him. it can be a guy who's arrogance and attempts of domination are explicitly shown to be a facade that hide the fact that he's actually kind of a massive pathetic wet loser, and you go to his fics, and they're all depicting him as a caricaturish daddy dom. at this point it's like, do you even like the character at all, or do you just like The Man, and project this man onto whatever character you find visually attractive? and these people kind of, really really poison actual discussion of the character, who is kind of a fucked up evil person (i only like *those* types, so im talking about them) because they see analysis of the actual character as an attack on their fantasized daddy dom husband, who is actually isn't The Character at all, and is simply a face of the day for The Man

writing tip #4182:
don't give yourself deadlines and feel terrible about getting nothing done anyway
You ever think about many peices of media have zero women and thats just perfectly normal but if a peice of media has an all female cast people get... like that? Women should be allowed to kill over this btw
same but it's black people
That's right

been sort of obsessively combing through articles and websites and resources about top surgery and recovery more and more as I gear up to My Big Day and while I hate to report I may have gotten through most of the scientifically rigorous and reputable sites I am at least, now, stumbling over some of the funnier AI generated slop images i've ever seen in my quest for Patient Information
They missed. 😔
i was talking about this on my server earlier but i really think "cozy" is one of the worst genre labels out there in the gaming space. like people dunk on the terms "metroidvania" and "first person shooter" a lot for being uncreative or limiting but at least those are like... falsifiable descriptors. you can look at a game and go "yeah this game's mechanics and core gameplay loop generally operate like metroid/castlevania" or "yeah this game primarily uses a first person camera paired with some sort of projectile weapon" so i don't think they're completely useless. but "cozy" is just nonsense. fully subjective. i see a lot of games popularly labeled as "cozy" that share almost zero mechanical features between them and don't even always match in tone or aesthetic. hearing a game described as "cozy" doesn't tell you anything about what to expect as a player beyond maybe giving you a sort of forewarning about the fanbase and their discomfort tolerance. "cozy" is not a quantifiable metric. like imagine if someone offered to buy you takeout and asked you what kind of food you'd like and you told them fully unironically, and with no further elaboration, "i want to get yummy food." that's what hearing "cozy games" sounds like to me
i especially chafe at the way "cozy games" just seems like a "woke" way to say "girl games" and conflate certain game mechanics or aesthetics with a non-cis/het/male identity (to equally useless effect from a buyer's pov). gender stereotyping by any other name is still gender stereotyping. i'm not cis het or male, but i've spent decades enjoying pvp shooters and feel bored to tears by cutesy cottagecore farming sims. and i find those pvp shooters very "cozy" to play, too! @_@;
