Close up pics of Symphanee before I redo her hair. Photos don’t do the transparency justice: her face seems to be already gloss sealed (so are her hands and legs) and the green eyeshadow is translucent so it doesn’t actually obscure as much of the sockets as I thought it would.
There is a layer of air between the vinyl and the skull underneath that you can feel if you squish the head. It makes me VERY curious how the rooting looks on the inside because the gap means the widow’s peak can’t hide that much. The vinyl feels about as soft as any other modern MH head.
She is the most interesting of the Off-White dolls but $150 is still absurd and I’m glad I got her on sale. I really hope that this style of construction gets reused for another doll.

my signet ooak doll is done!! i am really happy with how she turned out even though she took AGES because i made her super complicated... but signet deserves it! she marks my second ooak doll (outside of reroots/normal outfits) and i look forward to doing more :^) perhaps brnine....?
her body is a super action jenny body and her face is licca's boyfriend len.... using a boy doll face for true takarazuka vibes

playline doll collecting is getting so fucking insufferable it might actually push me back into bjds
I had a hunch that G3 Cupid would look better with a black bodysuit/petticoats and no red accessories and whaddya know
between travel and other hobbies it’s been eons since I last posted a doll. but enjoy this Licca in a Daiso kimono
absolutely love the bjd hobby and the diverse and creative community but i just gotta complain for a second. i cannot STAND the colorism that's baked in to so much of the verbiage. like first of all there are very few Black sculpts compared to white or east asian ones, but secondly the common industry term for light/fair resin is literally "normal" which. jesus fucking christ.
like usually dolls come in paper white, "normal," and light tan if you're lucky. and usually there's a significant upcharge for the light tan
like can we at least stop calling light skin "normal" please. please. pl
I’m gonna play devil’s advocate for a moment…
I do agree that the flat “normal” skin label should be updated to reflect that everyone has skin that is “normal,” no matter the shade. There are a few companies that have their lighter tones named accordingly such as “merengue beige,” “flesh pink,” and “peach.”
I’m going to touch base with a tag that I saw on a reblog, that tan and darker skin tones cost extra. Tan, darker tan, and ebony colors are notoriously harder to produce the consistent quality that is demanded of Asian Ball Jointed Dolls. The coloring of the resin is a more complicated process for these particular dolls, and a lot of the time companies end up with a lot of junk casts because of the resin failing, not curing properly, excessive marbling, or just flawed to the point of being unusable. And oof, some seam lines on tan dolls can look like huge canyons, and sanding is often not an option because it will lighten the resin significantly and will no longer match.
Do with that tidbit what you will. I just wanted to put out there that they aren’t charging you more just because they can.
I understand that darker resin costs more money to produce, however, what if instead of charging more for that specific color, they raised the prices on all dolls just a little bit to cover that cost of doing business? I dunno. I'd pay $25 more for a light-skinned doll instead of someone else having to pay $140 more for a dark-skinned doll. 🤷
depending on the sculpt the orders might be in the single digits which could make splitting costs difficult… but in that case maybe it would be easier to just let the buyers communicate with each other like it’s a group order? idk what the legal implications of this would be if negotiations go wrong
and as an aside it drives me up the wall when people defend colorism by saying that’s a realistic representation of chinese people, I’m chinese and “normal” resin is not even close to my skintone
I still like my mh dolls and I'm actively looking for a nicer way to display my collection but the constant fatphobia and dick-measuring contests are making it obnoxious to even look at mh related posts

Day 17 of @look-back-month-challenge
17. Most interesting or unusual toy
The history of the Chinese obsession with Pizza Hut is a long one that involves a lot of really perplexing decisions on Pizza Hut's part and uncomfortable discussions about what "communism with Chinese characteristics" is supposed to be, as well as the reality that consumerism in China often reflects the deep inferiority complex that many Chinese people feel when presented with Western or Japanese pop culture. But we don't need to solve all of that in a day, or wonder why a night market in central Taiwan was selling a pristine China-exclusive Pizza Hut Strike Freedom Gundam (I mean, why not?)
Day 8 of @look-back-month-challenge (missed a bunch of days lol)
8. A toy that came to you at a special time in your life
The little Sakura Miku came from a blind box that I got at my first anime con ever way back in high school. I still have all the figures that I got at that con, but this one is a bit more special because it's the one and only time I've gotten a chase figure from a blind box series.
Sitting Miku is unrelated, but she deserves a photo anyways. The Furyu noodle stopper figures are pretty nice considering how cheap they are
Day 3 of @look-back-month-challenge
3. A toy you love, but rarely, if ever, photograph.
I made this custom over a year ago and just never got around to posting?? Anyways this is a “what if G1 was G3” Draculaura. Clothes by me, shoes were 3D printed using a 70/30 mix of flex resin and normal resin. The STL was purchased here
Day 2 of @look-back-month-challenge
2. What is your oldest toy? (Chronologically)
35th anniversary Barbie, which came out in 1993. I posted her + the custom MTM blonde a while ago but they’re both wearing 35th anniversary swimsuits, ie. clothes meant to fit the vintage body type. It’s fascinating how well it fits the MTM despite how different their body molds are at first glance.
Day 1 of @look-back-month-challenge !
1. Introduce your newest toy to the one you've had longest.
Newest toy: Lagoonafire doll that I’m going to use for a custom dragon. Not a fan of G1 Jinafire or how G3 brings out the worst in otherwise progressive people, plus we haven’t had a dragon character with horns/antlers yet
The one I’ve had the longest: a little dog plush of unknown brand or origin. I know it’s the toy I’ve had the longest because there’s pictures of newborn me in the hospital with it. It could use some TLC/repairs for thin, worn down areas but I’d have to locate some thin towel fabric to match

It's almost here!
this messed up vintage cat sewing pattern has tormented me since i saw it & like some other folks have done in that post - i tried my hand at tweaking the pattern to resemble the illustration (and my personal tastes) a little more. i've ended up with this, which i have only tested at a small scale and not this final version exactly (where i have done such things as further widening the cheeks and finalizing the leg shapes.) i bestow it upon you nice folks now 👐
(IVE UPDATED IT WITH A FIX!!)
go forth and make weird little beanbag kittens! pls show me if you do!
