For a few minutes, though it felt much longer, Rin simply watched the woman as she went about what ever it was she decided to do. Picking something that had fallen off of the floor, pouring herself a cup of the tea he had just finished brewing, glancing, for just a moment, out of the small window. Something in the way she moved was so fluid and effortless, but still striking as if she didn’t need to think for even a second before doing. Her body simply moved, with full faith in every action and decision. 

And perhaps it was just because it was mundane actions she was preforming, but he didn’t think that was the case. Candice simply knew what she wanted to do, and she did it. Not a second spared for outcomes or consequences. She moved like she didn’t care at all what people thought of her, and he was pretty sure that she didn’t.

How freeing that must feel. 

He finally commented, with a faint laugh in his tone, without even realizing he had. 

“Do you think-” 

Rin’s voice echoed in the quiet third division barrack, making it seem louder than it was. Was it strange to flinch away from the sound of your own voice? Probably. It just felt too big. Too much. Like it would get him noticed, and not in a good way. 

Still. It was a thought he wanted to voice. People always said giving voice to something might just make it true. He kind of wanted this to be true. Even if he was sure that his former colleague was probably about to laugh in his face. 

He started again, quieter this time. Just above a whisper. 

Rin - slow burn

oh cool, you tend to obsess over the idea of a person and the stage that leads up to a relationship, but as soon as things get serious you lose interest and get bored. you like the pining and the shared stares of longing but actually commiting to a relationship scares you because it involves actually getting to know someone and having to put in effort. therapy is a wonderful resource bae <3

you've definitely had a crush on your best friend at some point in your life and it either went horribly wrong or extremely well. you like the idea of love when there is mutual pining and just a deep understanding of one another. being able to fall into the romantic things easily without the annoyingly awkward talking stage because you already know everything about them and vice versa. you might have a fear of rejection hence why you live vicariously through fictional relationships in hopes that one day that might be you. newsflash friend, you actually have to put yourself out there and stop waiting for love to magically fall into your lap

BEST EXPERIENCE: My best experience was probably my ANE oc, Ive missed that fandom ever since it kind of fizzled out. 

RP PET PEEVES / DEALBREAKERS: I don’t like being the one who constantly has to initiate. I prefer there being an equal back and forth between partners. Im really shy so having to constantly put myself out there makes me nervous.

Rin shuffled awkwardly, shrinking under the other shinigami’s gaze. Or, shinigami wasn’t the right word anymore, was it? They called themselves, visored? Maybe? Spending time with Shinji as much as he did he should probably know this. 

In any case, she was rather intense, wasn’t she? Perhaps his division often attracted people with that quality. Though, he didn’t really think he shared that with the rest of them. And her intensity was different from most of the others here as well. 

There was a certain gusto that was frequently found in those of the seventh division. The intensity of those around him, the unbridled sincerity and drive to do good, that was what had originally drawn Atau to the seventh. He had been surrounded for so long by the fake smiles of the upper crust visitors to his family temple. He knew, or at least had been told by his parents, how important these visitors were to their livelihood. He knew that the temple survived on donations who had far too much to spare and shared far too little. But it never erased his distaste for those who prided themselves just on appearance. They didn’t care about coming to pray. They only cared about being seen coming to pray. 

Still, as much as he preferred this new environment, the energy levels that came from his division could be a little much to handle. Atau wasn’t sure he would call himself an introvert, but his time alone was important to him. He often found himself slipping away a bit early from the various activities his division did as a group. The barracks should be empty this time of day, especially with everyone out celebrating together. 

But, his division did also have a way of surprising him. So maybe he should have expected they would prove him wrong. 

"But, if it's trash anyway-?"

Rin chewed on his sweet bun with a confused expression, watching the woman beside him. Was it merely principle that was making her get so defensive? He didn't truly understand the sentiment.

🤥 LYING - Rin is a terrible liar. There's really nothing to say about it but that. The boy is already so nervous and shaky as it is, adding in intentionally lying to someone and the anxiety that come with that. He's just an absolute mess. His one saving grace for getting to believe him is that he is usually an absolute mess so people might just chalk it up to Rin being Rin.

For Atau, I think he would be a pretty solid liar. He's good at keeping a straight and stoic expression, and if he's signing there is probably no giveaway in his voice. I also think he is calm and rational enough to think of a perfect lie if he had to. And, of course, no one would expect it from him. I just don't really think he would ever see the point in doing so? If it was something he couldn't or didn't want to answer he wouldn't be shy about telling the other person that he wasn't going to answer that, or just straight up ignoring them and walking away.

🍧 SHAVED ICE - Rin does not have anything that is left over from childhood. What little he did have was left behind in the Rukongai when he entered into the Academy. And his childhood was far from the happiest time of his life, so he doesn't really regret not having any keepsakes.

Atau still has most of his belongings from childhood. His family home and their temple isn't very far from the Seireitei, probably only about a day's travel outside the walls. His childhood room still sits the same as it always has been there with his family, and he finds time to go back and stay a day or two with him when he can. As for what he has taken with him now that he's a member of the Gotei 13, he keeps a small set of wooden animals that his father carved for him beside his bed. To him, this is like having a little piece of his family with him. IT was especially comforting in his early days, as he had never been apart from his family before entering the academy. If he lost it, I'm sure he would be sad for a while. He might also feel a bit guilty or frustrated with himself losing something that he cared about so deeply. But in the end Atau is not much of a material person, and he knows the true value is in the memories those animals invoke within him. He would probably just end up making a visit back home and asking his father to carve him another set.
