By lamplight they turned black, and in the light of dusk they seemed purple"), once she starts using her magic, her Air Genasi racial traits pop more and one of her most telling signs is her eyes, which take the same bright violet tone as her lightning spells. It also serves to hint at her actual class, which she usually hides for cultural reasons (that class is among the least accepted in Calimshan - it didn't stop her from raising through ranks though, because she is particularly shrewd when it comes to her job).
