shoutout all my neurodivergent folk who Dont have autism or adhd
hey fellow autistic folk and adhders. this post isn't about you. this post is about all the other neurodivergence that is specifically Not autism or adhd. maybe the clearest post on the site about that actually. i'm autistic and have adhd too, but this post is specifically not about that. stop making it about your autism or your adhd.
it's about npd, bpd, psychosis, schizophrenia, dyslexia, dyscalculia, dyspraxia, dysgraphia, epilepsy, DLD, did, osdd (and any other plurality/multiplicity), depression, brain damage, anxiety, tourettes, down syndrome, ptsd, and everything else. it's specifically about neurodivergence that ISNT autism or adhd.

im not a girl Unless ☝️ im being told to go piss
How your email finds me
I am entering my villain era over how many outdoor water activities in my city, a metropolitan area that famously has one of the most robust public transit systems in the US, are inaccessible (or at least more difficult to access) without cars.
I want to go to the beach. I can take the train or an rideshare there, but because I did not drive there I have no car to use as a Portable Storage Locker™ for my valuables and therefore cannot bring anything that I either cannot wear in the water or would not feel comfortable leaving on the sand unattended. “Just leave your phone and wallet at home!” …See above about rideshares or trains, services you famously need to pay for using a smartphone or a credit card.
I want to rent a kayak on the river that runs through the city. I read the FAQ on the kayak rental website to see if they have lockers for my valuables or a towel or a change of clothes in case I get wet. They do not have lockers, and explicitly recommend that you leave belongings in your vehicle. In your vehicle. Because of course everyone has a vehicle. Of course everyone who wants to rent a kayak is planning on driving into the heart of the city to access this boat launch, which is conveniently located right next to a subway station, but that isn’t relevant because of course anyone who is interested in kayaking in a city obviously has a car.
I remember as a kid the nearby small town had a "computer expert" who had a full storefront and office. If someone bricked their computer or it loaded with viruses he'd factory reset it for them and try to get it working again. He'd also buy, refurbish, rest, and resell old computers. But the main thing he advertised was if people brought him a computer and a list of programs they wanted installed on it he'd get them all set up. Flat rate of like 20 bucks.
Didn't realize until I was older and like, looking back on some of the tech stuff my mom needed help with and knew more about how software is priced that he was pirating it. Guy had a whole business set up where people who didn't know how computers worked would pay him 20 bucks to install Microsoft Office on their laptop because it was cheaper than buying it in the store and they didn't want to be bothered with figuring out how to install programs even if they could afford them normally. Like that guy was practically printing money well into the early 2000s. Very good hustle. Only small business owner I respect.
“Where are the trans men in history?” See. When you're born a gender that was forcefully married off, who had to live most of their life indoors, when you had to raise children, and had a lobotomy if your family thought you were a tad too odd, it's kinda hard to come out as a trans man now ain't it.
forever my lineage would use his wrong pronouns but not me
Some doctors in Victorian England were genuinely trans men!
James Barry (surgeon) - Wikipedia
Women weren’t allowed to become doctors in the Victorian era unless they disguised themselves well enough, so what your ancestor did wasn’t completely unheard of for a woman, but it is possible- I would say likely- that your ancestor probably was, given the anecdotal evidence here.

I identify the most with the woman who has a green velvet ribbon around her neck and keeps being like "DONT untie my neck ribbon or something really bad will happen" and then her husband unties the ribbon and her head falls off. this is extremely real to me. spent my whole life like "please don't do this thing to me or really bad stuff will happen" and everyone around me being like "that sounds fake" and doing it anyway. and then my head fell off!

alternate captains of the flying dutchman
listen. we know and love davy jones and will turner as the dutchman's captains. but i have been musing over other possibilities who could have taken that role and how they would have handled it, and have compiled them into a neat ordered list for your perusal <3
jack sparrow as will put it best—"you have to do the job, jack." but i think there's a compelling thread here. his first love is the sea, and to sail it forever? it does mean he has to give up the pearl, alas, but i think he'd be a good ferryman. he could chat the ghosts' ears off and set them at ease in his weird little way. 6/10, would probably faff about and shirk his duty despite the consequences, but 10/10 for Themes
james norrington he was born to cut his heart out for duty if i'm honest. a sailor through and through. it does mean undoing his javert moment, and i typically make the argument he would rather die human than live as a monster but i think, if pressed into service by the dutchman, he would do a great job. 9/10
weatherby swann That Man Does Not Know How To Sail ! compels me though. 1/10
cutler beckett That Man Does Not Know How To Sail, but he could order people to do it for him. alas i think he'd use the dutchman to his own ends, and his vanity is too great to let him get fishified for not doing the job, so he wouldn't choose to stab the heart. NON-COMPETE/10
ian mercer he can already teleport, this is a bit of an upgrade. i don't think he'd do the job but he'd be terrifying doing whatever else. 4/10
elizabeth swann hear me out: pirate king and in league with calypso. it does mean she has to die but like, she gets to have adventures forever? i can see her either doing the job well OR becoming hardened and running the sea on her own after Losing Everything corrupted-style. much to think about. 7/10
bootstrap bill already has job experience. built-in redemption arc, could have resurrected his son and set him on shore for the next 100 years. just should've taken action sooner i suppose. you snooze you lose! would have liked to have seen it. 8/10
pintel and ragetti two for the price of one! and pintel could finally be a captain. would not do the job though. 2+2/10
no one i'm all for calypso just dissolving the role entirely and tending to the dead herself. you cannot trust men. and who can bother to onboard a new manager in this economy? 10/10
If you’re pining you need to stop and pick a different tree. You know, spruce it up a little
I’m still proud of this post. It’s evergreen
