i find it so funny that as soon as the reunion happened, liam completely stopped pretending to care about his solo career. he made 3 albums publicly yearning and begging for noel back and then as soon as he got him, he was like yep mission accomplished no need for any more of that

actually it's worse then first thought because not only does he change sister to brother but after the first it's just a kiss away he changes the second it's just a kiss away to it's just a fist away which makes it imo even more explicitly about his relationship with noel. like I am going cuckco bananas over here.

Blatantness aside though Liam is such an effective songwriter. Like the contrast between the gentleness of a kiss vs the force and violence of a fist. The dichotomy that comes from the ambiguity is alluring too: what does he mean by the fist? Is it a fight, raining blows? Or *wanking gesture* Is it a threat? A promise? A resignation in conflating the two that things will either end in violence or basically sex? Suspension of belief/taboos for a second, but doesn't that just sum up the volatility of Noel and Liam? It could be an invitation or a reminisce, but the way Liam neatly wraps that up in a one-word switch between ‘kiss’ and ‘fist’ is something we get so caught up in thinking about the subject of the song that we forget to credit him for, he can be a really good, shrewd and concise writer when it suits him.

Being crazy about a piece of media for any amount of time will leave a weird mark on you forever because years later you’ll see someone posting something about it like “can we talk about this frame” and you’ll be like “ah that frame. i know all about that frame. I was once a scholar of that frame.”
