vaguely pushing this blog in a more system focused direction!
we're a super big system, and there's a lot of frequent changes (people come and go and change their gender and such) so rather than try to introduce everyone, we've organized ourselves into 13 'characters' with fun colors and shapes!
Introducing!! The Byrdz!
Featuring names, percentage of the system which they represent, pronouns (chosen by those they represent) and the general personality/kind of alter they're representing (some sections might be hard to read because of the colors, so i've transcribed it all below the cut)
Anna, 5.7%, Any Pronouns, Performer
Becca, 11.5%, Any Pronouns, Nerd
Bobby (Sometimes spelt Bobbie), 14.8%, Any Pronouns, Hater
Carrie, 6.1%, Any Pronouns, Hard-Worker
Emily (Sometimes spelt Emilee), 3.7%, Any Pronouns, Slut
Erin, 4.9%, Any Pronouns, Little
Gabriel (Sometimes Gabi), 10.2%, She/Vae/Xie/He/They/Xey/Shim/It/Nya/Xe/Moo/Dark/Ba/Ze, Chill Guy

at a certain point i think looking for problematic things makes you problematic
example: im a theater major at a college, we did a show recently which entailed one person writing a lot of stage names on a set piece (like a band signing the wall of a venue) and one signature- based on the name of a performer In The Script- was "SS". This set piece is seen and handled by dozens of people per day, including several professors. One day- weeks after it had been written- one person noticed and immediately informes everyone that it was an antisemetic dogwhistle. (This person is gentile. I am the only jew on campus.) Several people, including myself, responded that "oh. yeah, that is isnt it? i totally forgot, anyways..." and attempted to move on, but were not allowed to as this person called over the person who wrote it. this event ruined that person's day, I had to spend the rest of the night convincing them they weren't an unforgivable antisemite, but that's not what this is about.
That person later made a series of holocaust jokes. in front of me. as i expressed that it made me uncomfortable. This is clearly not someone who actually cares about jews or jewish comfort. this was not a well meaning quiet mention.
Even before he made holocaust jokes, I knew that he made me uncomfortable after that event. Seeing something like that and immediately seeing nazism, to me, makes you seem like a nazi. If you look at the world and only see bigotry before what it actually is, I do not trust that you aren't a bigot.
Keeping an eye out to keep yourself and others safe is one thing. always and exclusively seeing hate is a red flag.
lowkey i'd have a lot less intrusive thoughts about coming across as a sexual harassment if i was actually taught how to recognize sexual harassment........................................

so tired of people saying abrahamic religions when they only have experience with christianity like No i don't think you know how every jewish islamic AND christian lives and thinks??? and actually its very unlikely that all those people of all those faiths agree on those same things like you for some fucking reason think
been talking to some friends about how i think they would benefit from a mobility aid and its becoming increasingly clear like Oh. you don't See me as a Human who you Respect. that's why you don't want to Help YourSelf. you fear being One Of Me. OkaY. Very Cool.
this might be bs but i think having different periods and classes each that last like an hour and going between them thoughout the day and then transitioning to the job space where you are doing one same thing for 8 hours per day is not good or fun and there's gotta be a better way to prepare us and our attention span for extended times of doing one thing

a part of me hates the word neurodivergent. beyond that it's increasingly unclear what it actually means, it feels so... minimalizing. it feels like you're scared of being disabled. it has the same feeling as when people only focus on the cute aesthetic parts of autism and not the fact that it can be crippling. it feels like you're forgetting that adhd actually makes a lot of life harder, it's not just a little quirky, it's a disability. it disables you.
if you prefer the term neurodivergent like, fine, idc, this is not the most important thing going on rn in the world, or even in the nd community, you aren't a bad person for using it. but for the love of god remember you're disabled. and that's ok.
theres some relation between trans women who hate trans men and misogyny. you have to see how describing all trans men as sensitive and irrational and manipulative is directly caused by being a misogynist. transitioning did not cure you of being a misogynist and it's still misogyny if it's directed at trans men because it is based in misogynistic beliefs that you aren't addressing.
i have generally done well at resisting arguing with the very small group of people who are being dicks on this post but i do wanna clarify one thing:
"hating trans men" is not the same as "pointing out transphobic trans men" and the fact you automatically assumed thats what i meant means you are probably transphobic. or at the very least no one is allowed to point out your flaws to you because you automatically assume its done with malice. i actually think pointing out a bigoted behavior is something that should represent a close POSITIVE relationship! "i want you to be better" is something we feel about our loved ones!
so yeah, this post is about hating trans men. i cant believe you missed that.

generally i think people go way too long without being diagnosed and it can literally be life ruining, however nothing in my life fucked me over like getting diagnosed with depression at 11, and it all actually stems from the way people think about children who are mentally ill.
1. the second i was diagnosed, i stopped being a reliable source on what was good for me. nothing i said or did was believable, it was all just a cry for help.
2. i dont even have fucking depression. i have a lot of other shit that looked like depression when i was 11 years old, 2 days after a suicide attempt, with my abuser in the room, who was speaking for me during one single appointment with my pcp. but its so hard for people to concieve of a mentally ill child that they refused to test me for any of the Serious Scary Shit. a kid with depression is already basically impossible, OBVIOUSLY they weren't going to consider that a kid could have bipolar or bpd or ocd or even have a bad home life which will result in ptsd
so yes, we need to put more effort into getting people diagnosed earlier, but first we gotta just be fucking normal about mentally ill people of all kinds
