Toonboom wants to put AI in their softwares

Enhance your workflow and stay in control of the creative process. Smart Add-ons for Storyboard Pro & Harmony.

Toonboom has decided to open an AI Beta called Toonboom Ember. They have worked with Brai.ai to do so, as well as Google Gemini. Brai.ai is *generally* a more ethical AI company, as it only uses licensed work and therefore also has a lower ecological impact- although the exact C02 emissions are not known and to be honest any amount isn't enough to justify this for me personally. Google Gemini is being used to "automatically identify key scenes, characters and background assets" taking away part of the job a storyboard artist/script writer would be handling.

Brai.ai is backed by Venture capital firms including AWS (Amazon) as well as many others.

Ember is being developed to effectively remove "tedious/repetitive" work in the Animation industry. But in practice this work is something junior artists are *trained on*, and in order to get a job you need that training- if Toon Boom succeeded in what they are attempting the animation industry would lose many jobs and it would be even harder to break into without a letter from god. If you do not want this implemented, the most effective option is through installing the beta and leaving feedback. This has directly been said to be the prioritised form of feedback. Obviously this is impossible to do if you do not own something Toon Boom related.

For those concerned but who do not currently own any toon boom products, the public community discord is under the "join the community" tab of toon boom's website. For those who do venture into the Discord to leave feedback, do not direct your anger at the community managers- it is clear that at least one has his own views on AI.

Interestingly, Brai.ai does do text to image generation. although this is not *currently* being implemented into Toon Boom.

Until they remove AI I will not be renewing my subscriptions personally, I'd recommend others do the same.
