Whenever I think about Steven Universe I think about PearlRose and I think about Pearl's insanely bad self-worth and also martyr complex and also unhealthy devotion to Rose. And I think of Sworn To The Sword where it's shown she would risk her life constantly and be poofed or damaged throwing herself in front of Rose on the battlefield. And I think of Cry For Help when Pearl was willing to lie and manipulate Garnet into fusing, including sabotaging their goal of tracking Peridot, just so she could have the satisfaction of being necessary and helpful and part of all those good, fuzzy, strong feelings that Garnet is made of.
And inevitably all of that makes me think of how Pearl probably got herself damaged many times during the war, often in avoidable circumstances, just so Rose would cry for her. Just so she could be held by her. Just so Pearl could have the ultra satisfying combo of risking her health for the person she loves, and then have that person weep for her so she gets better. I love my twisted little neurotic gem lady.
