some bloodstar/bloodymary headcanons:
!!! Spoilers for both Iron Lung and Project Hail Mary ahead !!!
Simon DOES somehow survive the blood ocean and the SM-13 sends out a distress signal which miraculously makes its way to Erid.
Rocky informs Grace of this signal, telling him it could potentially be another human or something similar. Grace is dismissive at first but remembers what it was like being alone in space before he met Rocky. He agrees to go figure out what this signal is.
Once Simon is saved and transported back to Erid, he is MORTIFIED to wake up not only on an unknown planet, but one that seems to be made up largely of an ocean (due to being in Grace’s bubble). He never wants to see an ocean, blue or red, for as long as he lives.
Simon doesn’t adjust well to this new planet at first or the fact that he’s surrounded by the one thing he’s scared of most. He mostly hides inside Grace’s home or by the rocks on the other side of the water. He can’t stand listening to the waves crash on the shore, it’s enough to drive him mad.
Rocky and Adrian conspire to build Simon his own human terrarium, one full of trees and grass and dirt. Adrian has a field day making all these new things for their human companions.
Simon takes a liking to Adrian before growing comfortable around Grace and Rocky. Adrian spends a lot of time perfecting Simon’s garden.
Simon falls to his knees the first time he steps inside and not only sees a tree similar to the one on his home station, but to see hundreds of tall, green giants surrounding him. Adrian is as able to create a wind system and Simon lays on the ground for HOURS, basking in the synthetic sunlight and feeling the breeze on his face.
Once Simon grows more comfortable being around Grace, he invites Grace to his side of the bubble (still not 100% ready to go see the ocean).
Let’s say the plants growing on the Hail Mary carried seeds. Adrian is able to find a way to replicate the seeds so Simon can have fruits and vegetables in his habitat. After everything that happened on the blood moon and the scarcity of meat before he even went into a sea of blood, Simon has turned to veganism. (The very idea of Grace’s meburgers horrifies him).
Once Grace and Simon become more accustomed to one another, they spend a lot of time reading and writing projects together under the shade of Simon’s trees.
They both put on puppet shows for Rocky, Adrian and the Eridians. After Grace shows Simon Star Wars, the puppet show recreation of it is a huge hit with the Eridians. Simon is very charismatic and gets into his role for each show which Grace can’t help but admire.
Rocky likes it best when Simon and Grace recreate romantic scenes from films together.
Among all the things the Eridians have built and assisted Simon with, Rocky builds Simon a new arm. One made of the strongest materials but lightweight enough that he can do mundane everyday tasks with ease. Grace won’t admit it, but it is written all over his face that he’s jealous. He wants a cool alien arm, too.
After many, many, many years of building up the nerve to face the ocean again, Simon walks with Grace onto the shoreline. They walk hand in hand as the waves roll over their feet. Adrian finally got the water temperature just right and Simon quietly cries as he feels the water wash over his skin. Grace smiles as he watches silently, giving Simon this moment to just be.
I have more but for now I will leave it here. I haven’t been normal since I learned of this ship and I won’t be normal ever again. I adore these characters SO MUCH. And shoutout to @chlorophylllia for fueling the fire on these headcanons!
