In an AU where abo presentation happens at around 18ish but there are certain signs leading up to it, Ford realizes thst Stan is going to present as an alpha (twins, after all) and starts bitching Stan, keeping a detailed secret journal for his scientific process. Logs of exactly how many mls of cum he's dosed in his coffer, time spent covering Stan's nose with a "used" rag when he sleeps, sketches of bite imprints he leaves on Stan's undeveloped mating gland before they fade.

Stan gets kicked out before he presents though so Ford doesn't know how he turned out and has a deep fear that it was all for nothing, but also anger at the thought of Stan presenting and him not getting to claim his brother's first heat.

When Stan shows up 10y later, he acts like an alpha and smells like a beta so Ford assumes he wasn't able to do enough to fully reverse the process, only to stop it. But it's too late now, and he has more important things to be concerned with.

But during his 30 years in the other dimensions, he finds a lot of interesting information on how to bitch an alpha post presentation, and when he gets back he starts using all of it for evil.

Stan going into a heat he hasn't had in a decade when Ford calls him back because he's back in the presence of his safety, his brother. Ford opens the door, crossbow wielded have you come for my eyes, and has to immediately drop it because Stan's pupils are rapidly dilating and he's beginning to pant and Ford can fucking smell the slick running down Stan's leg. Suddenly all the anger, paranoia, desperation is single mindedly focused on keeping his omega safe, secure, covered. - starrypockets

SO HAHAHA. i touched on this suuuper briefly in another ask somewhere, but i think if stan had gone into a random heat when he gets to ford's place, in their paranoid vs mullet stages, that would've been....bad actually haha. or at least really fuckin complicated, which makes it fun!

like maybe stan is so caught up in the stress and anxiety of seeing ford again - of ford ASKING for him to come and see him, what are the odds?? - that it all either triggers a heat or he doesn't even realize it's happening until he's already there and can't really do anything about it. but ford had invited him here, and he doesn't want to fuck things up by not showing. but he also doesn't want to fuck things up with this, y'know? but maybe ford will at least let him lock himself in a room for a few days??

but ford...well, ford isn't exactly himself right now. he has so much caffeine in his body it's a miracle he hasn't had a heart attack yet, he can't remember the last time he slept, everything hurts and he doesn't know why unless the nail is still sticking out of his hand when he comes to, and he is concvinced - for good reason - that someone is being sent to further mutilate him. you're going to throw on TOP of that his brother, who yes he sent for, but by his memory is a beta, is surprise actually an omega and coincidentally going into heat on his doorstep?? something that, oh how convenient, is a fantasy he's indulged himself in one-too-many times. i don't think ford would even believe stan was REAL right away.

cause ford also isn't just ford right now. ford has a demon in his head that has seen every depraved, hormone addled fantasy he's jerked off to and would absolutely know his feelings for stan. and even if this suddenly-an-omega stan IS real (sus), ford is still one micronap away from potentially ending the world. so now on top of the EVERYTHING he's been going through, he's also fighting every secondary instinct he has because holy shit, he can't afford to lose it right now.

but...y'know....maybe all that up front confusion between both of them at least slows down the "go downstairs and start fighting and ruining each other's lives again" thing. and it would take a lot of gymnastics to get there, but...well. bill can't use ford's body if he's tied up well enough, right? and in a few hours, all stan is really going to need is a dick to fuck himself on. if you think about it......they could make this work, right?

I wonder if ford questioned what could have caused the damage to his first journal lmfao or if he noticed it at all (I'm sure if stan ever tells him about it hed blue screen over the mental image)

And ofc stan would absolutely try to brush the whole event aside even if the smart thing to do is just stay off supressents (I'm glad you brought up his age because I WAS wondering if him being older would actually affect his likelihood of having heats) stan is gonna crush this all down under gravity falls new fav phrase "never mind all that"

Until ford realizes what stans planning and throws a fit I assume lol bro probably tries to play it off like hes worried for stans health but in reality hes just does NOT want to give up his deepest fantasy come to life

Which reminds me (I would apologize for yapping but I'm just meeting your energy here lmao) the idea of ford putting stan in his place of the hierarchy when he comes back through the portal? I keep thinking about the "what if" of that. Like. Would stans suppressants fail or would he just have to play along and pretend hes an alpha getting bitched? If it's the former I imagine ford (because as smart as he is, hes still an idiot) would somehow assume he MADE stan into an omega right there and then lmfao before stan corrects him ofc

because, see, YOU GET IT. the way i yelled at the 'trying to fist himself to emulate ford's knot' comment like fuck yeah buddy, absolutely. i like to think that once he had his head on straight again, stan tried really hard to clean the journal up as much as possible, but there's not a ton to do for where it stained, or where pages got, ahem, wet and then dried out of shape. but if he calls it water stains most people aren't gonna look twice (most people will never even SEE this damn book), and honestly he'd be a liiiiittle bit relieved that it gets torched.

Stan and Ford find out they're drift compatible due to being twins, and they enlist into the program to get away from Filbrick and because it carries that sweet taste of adventure and glory they always craved as kids. They get to the program, run some simulators and some bo staff fights, lo and behold, they're exceptionally compatible by all known projections (wonder why. couldn't possibly have anything to do with their deeply repressed and undying love for each other combined with their shared memories growing up together. nah.)

Here they also meet and befriend Fiddleford, an engineer working on the Jaeger program. Things go great for a while, until Ford starts expressing desire to study the Kaiju, veering dangerously close to idolizing them for their biologically perfect design. Stan is vehemently against this and only wants to focus on killing them. They have a huge fight and they both get kicked out of the Jaeger program.

Stan fucks off and learns to make a living chasing kaiju landfalls and selling off uncannily convincing fake Kaiju parts and materials at obscene prices to whatever Kaiju groupies roll through town in the wake of destruction to worship their "gods." (They remind too fucking much of Ford.) He pockets enough for himself and donates the rest to the victims of the attacks.

This goes on for a few years, until a Kaiju attack obliterates his hometown and kills his parents, brother, and sister in law. Leaving only their 2 young children, only 7 years old. Twins. Dipper and Mabel Pines. (Yes I'm screwing with the timeline here. It will happen again.) He doesn't have any other way to make a living, and they don't have anyone else to go to. So Stan sells El Diablo, uses the money to buy a junk RV, fixes it up, and takes the twins with him on a cross country adventure of heroic conning. Along the way, they encounter Soos, Wendy, Candy, Grenda, and the rest.

In the meantime, Ford works with Fiddleford to develope a pons that can allow him to drift with a recently dead kaiju. It takes a few years, but they finally create it. (By this time Ford has become the highest knowledge of Kaiju biology in the world, and Fiddleford is leading the entire Jaeger engineering program.)

They drift together.

For Ford, it's ecstasy, euphoria, sublime, righteous. Finally he has been proven right, finally he knows why all the Kaiju tissue samples are genetically identical, finally he knows that there is a higher being behind the Kaiju. And that higher beings name is Bill. (Not really. His name would be impossible for any human mind to comprehend, drift or no. But Bill is a good enough substitute.) And Bill explains [insert Bill's offer here].

Unfortunately, Ford and Fiddleford's minds and memories weren't very compatible to begin with, much less with an dead alien brain from another dimension in the mix, and as the weakest willed of the 3, Fiddleford suffers permanent brain damage and amnesia.

The strength of that drift with Bill allows for them to experience ghost drifting, aka drifting during dreams. Bill teaches Ford how to make an upgraded version of the pons with less risk, and how to preserve a Kaiju specimen indefinitely so as to drift with him over and over again. The repeated drifts build a permanent neutral bridge between Ford and Bill, and Bill becomes able to take control of Ford's body, even outside of the drift. Ford becomes less and less focused on the Kaiju attacks and the people dying, and more lost in all the wonders of the multidimensional planes bill shares memories of with him.

With the lead engineer of the Jaeger program mentally obliterated, and the chief Kaiju biology researcher being possessed by a Kaiju, and the lack of support from the world's governments in favor of building a wall across the coast to block the kaiju, the Jaeger program slowly starts to collapse.

That is, until the day Ford discovers [insert horrifying Bill revelation here].

He panics and calls the one person who might be able to free Ford's mind from bill, the one person with whom he had a statistically impossible level of compatibility. The person he was the most terrified to open his mind to.

And yes I'm delighted you caught all the references!!! I was shocked at how well the different characters meshed together, and when it started pulling from the PacRim 2 plot it blew my fucking mind.

The rough parallels are:

Ford as Newt/Mako (k-science, calls back Stan to action)

Stan as Raleigh/Hannibal

Fiddleford as Hermann-ish (built the jeagers instead of coding them)

Soos as Tendo (I think Stan picks him up on the Great Cross Country Road Trip, and then Soos decides he wants to work LOCCENT so Stan lets him go grow, then when Stan comes back Soos is happily married to Melody with a kid on the way and heading LOCCENT for their Stan and Ford's Jaeger.)

I also feel like Dipper and Mabel manage to hijack a Jaeger in the final fight and drift perfectly and provide the exact support needed.
