tagging/content warning systems for media are often mocked outside of fanfic which is kind of too bad because i do think it'd be a really interesting vector of literary analysis to examine what the author or publisher thinks they should be informing their audience about vs. the actual content of the media in question

a minecraft smp isn't a tv show or a movie or a book or a video game, and it shouldn't be expected to operate like one. holding in your mind that the players are simultaneously characters with fictional lore AND that they're real life people with a history of their own isn't a contradiction. being canadian and living in minecraft isn't a bug, it's a feature of the media you're watching. in the same way that creators in an smp set in a mediaeval-inspired world can reference aeroplanes or cameras or beyonce. in the same way that a creator's disability matters despite it not having an equivalent in-game. in the same way that a creator can be trans despite gender not being a mechanic in-game. it's not canon-breaking for all these things to be true. smps don't need to have a set, completely coherent set of rules the way that other media do order for good stories to come out of them. the flux isn't just okay, it's an inherent part of the medium. trying to escape it or avoid it or rationalise it is like trying to say a still image is the same thing as a tv show

thinkin about disabled characters i gotta confess i find it fascinating when people make goodtimeswithscar a cane user actually. because it suggests the artist has given minecraft scar a disability, but a different disability than real life scar, right? or at least different symptoms. and i mean scar's very open about the fact you can do anything with his cubito so i wouldn't say it's a problem but its an interesting unspoken implication. is it a headcanon with intentionality or just an aesthetic choice. much to consider.

my favoritest thing in hermitcraft fanfiction is when it takes place in a pseudo-minecraft fantasy realm but the hermits are still sometimes described with their nationalities. like okay this is a world where magic exists and you can respawn after you die and the entirety of reality sometimes gets new features added and new worlds can be created out of thin air, each with their own accompanying otherworldly pocket dimensions, and some people have special admin powers that allow them to alter the fabric of reality, and gods/cosmic horror monsters/a weird cult called the Watchers may or may not inhabit the spaces in between existence. also Canada exists. Canada exists here and we are not going to address it
