Someone can think for themselves and still be wrong. They can think for themselves and come to a different conclusion than you. They can think for themselves and still come to the more traditional, socially accepted result. Someone isn't necessarily brainwashed just because they're wrong, they disagree with you or they go along with the rest of the world.

Also, we are all influenced in some way by the people we know, hear and respect. I don't think it's possible to truly think without having your opinions swayed by outsiders. That's why I think it's more important to know many people with various opinions than it is to just focus on what you personally believe and find logical. Most people do think for themselves, they are just people influenced by the world they live in.
