So You Watched Obsession And Want To Mainline Curry Barker's Short Horror:
wonderful news!! curry barker is one of my favorite (if not my favorite, hands down) short horror directors. as someone who has watched hundreds and hundreds of short horror films on youtube.
here are five of his films with the runtime and a quick summary of each. (sorry if i miss any, these are what i remember off the top of my head!) i've avoided spoilers beyond the basic premise, but every single one of these deals with Absolutely Haunting Thematic Shit:
-
THE CHAIR - 25 minutes
when horror connoisseurs hear "curry barker," they usually think of the chair first. barker was approached to make this into a full-length film & pitched obsession instead... GREAT choice, as i don't think the chair would Work with extra runtime.
a man finds an old chair on the side of the road and brings it home to his girlfriend. strange events begin to unfold -- his girlfriend's behavior becomes increasingly erratic, he's losing time, he's unraveling at the seams....
if you enjoyed the fucked-up relationship dynamics in obsession then you will probably have a good time.
-
MILK & SERIAL - 62 minutes
barker's other best-known horror film. a twisty found footage thriller about youtube pranksters whose pranks Go Wrong (TM).
i can't say much more than that.... if you watched obsession and thought "pretty good, but pretty predictable. i wonder how curry barker would handle a psychological thriller with more plot twists??"
boy, does this film have an answer!!
-
ENIGMA - 20 minutes
this is a psychological thriller about a man dealing with the impending end of the world. explores how other people are also dealing with the end of the world.
i fear i'll give a skewed impression if i say this one is sort of a feel-good film..... but OF the films on this list, it's Certainly the most optimistic. my partner rafi (who really hates depressing horror) watched it with me and concluded, "oh, that was kind of sweet, actually!!"
this one's great if you want a palate cleanser after The Unrelenting Gutwrenching Horror of obsession.
-
WARNINGS - 20 minutes
my personal favorite!! criminally underrated!! upsetting in a way that stuck to my skin for days!!
a man starts receiving strange written warnings on halloween. things around him begin to unravel.
similar to the chair in its unsettling surreality, but with a bit more supernatural influence imo. you'll recognize a lot of parallel imagery to obsession, especially with Strange Movement and Nightmare Experiences.
-
HEAVY EYES - 5 minutes
the shortest one on this list if you just want to dip your toes in real quick... a pretty easy time investment if you've never watched short horror and aren't sure if you'll like it!
a boy's mom comes home unexpectedly at night.
the only problem?? she's still texting him from the hospital where she works.
this one is both scary and ended up Way More Haunting than i thought a 5-minute short could. even thinking about it makes my stomach kind of hurt.
I think the biggest rebuke of JD Vance is that the whole plotline with his arrogant adult-convert white nationalist Catholicism and feuds with popes weirdly follows the main twist from C.S. Lewis' The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe, another body of work which he claims to be a fan of. Famously in that book (which is also Christian symbolism) Aslan the lion agrees to a deal with the Witch so he dies in place of Edmund, but the Witch doesn't know the deep magic which says that if an innocent dies on the stone table in place of a sinner the table will crack and time will reverse and then Aslan comes back to life.
Pretty funny to imagine that the whole 'jd vance killed pope francis' thing isn't a coincidence, there is some fucked up evil deal, vance was sent to ice the pope (who feuded with him) in a prearranged evil bargain, and then leader of the catholic church christ's vicar on earth pope francis dies at the highly symbolic age of 88 (infinity twice, or infinity once and then reversed if we really want to hit the similarities here) on EASTER MONDAY which I feel is like...the highest most symbolic date a deeply devoted member of that faith could hope for. And then what happens? The next pope to be elected is a midwestern american who chooses the name "Leo." Literally the lion. And Leo continues to rebuke Vance and his associates twisted claims on the faith and it's symbolism.
It's the same symbolic story and the idea that Vance can't see that perhaps he got played by the same plot twist that happens in two stories he claims to be a devoted follower of would be the biggest rebuke of all.
Imagine God moving in mysterious ways to call JD Vance a fake fan. Based divine judgment move if true tbh
BOYS GO TO JUPITER Lovers Always Lose (2024)
quick what’s ur opinion on tea. everyone who sees this is obligated to answer in some way
I love it! I've been drinking chai in the morning often but also added a lavender black tea
Been feeding baby goats that a mama rejected, and having Jonathan and Martha Kent thoughts.
Jon and Martha find the Kryptonian ship in their corn field, but when they open it the baby is not well. He’s traveled light years, and even at the fastest speeds, it was days or even weeks. What fluid was sustaining him has been gone for some time.
They work a farm. They know what a sick baby looks like.
They take the baby inside anyway. It’s far too late for anything to be open, so they break out the milk replacer for the livestock. The bottle they find has had a goat kid sucking on it, but they wash it good, because what other choice do they have?
The baby doesn’t take to the bottle well. He barely eats.
They both know a lack of appetite is a death knell.
“I can’t watch a baby die,” Martha says. She’s done it before. She and Jon struggled to have kids. The closest they got — well. It’s a hard memory for them both.
“I know, love.” Jon’s a good old country boy. He grew up being told it’s a man’s job to take the burden. He’ll take it now. “Go to bed. I’ll stay with him.”
Sure, they both know Martha won’t sleep, but at least she won’t have to see.
Jon takes the wee babe out onto the porch. He tries to poke more milk down him. Rubs his chest, bounces him, pushes the bottle past his lips, every damn thing he can do. The hours are long and hard, but he would never forgive himself if he didn’t try.
The baby continues to fade.
The eastern sky starts to lighten.
“I’m sorry, little fellow,” Jonathan whispers. It’s not long now. He can feel it in his bones. He’s held plenty of animals as they died. He’s waiting for that long last exhale. “Sorry you came all this way and this is your welcome. Can’t even enjoy the sunrise.”
He told himself he wouldn’t cry until the boy was gone. Wasn’t fair, that his last moments would be a man crying instead of comforting him, but Jon does his best to do both at the same time. He cradles the poor little thing even as his shoulders shake.
The sun breaks over the horizon, and light floods the porch. Jon closes his eyes against it and his tears.
It’s a hiccup that is the first sign something changed. Then the wiggling.
Jon nearly drops the baby in shock.
When he looks down, the little boy sure hasn’t died. He’s got this rosy little glow to his cheeks and his eyes are bright. He’s throwing those little hands around like he’s trying to figure out how they work, but he seems to be trying to reach for the sun.
Jon just stares at him until the baby gets frustrated enough with his clumsy limbs that he opens his mouth to tell the world about it.
The baby’s cry is so powerful Jon falls right out of his rocker. It’s a miracle he doesn’t launch the poor thing.
Only thing he can think to do with a screaming baby that’s about to take his eardrums out is shove that bottle right in that open mouth.
The little boy shuts right up and clings to the bottle for dear life as he drinks with a fury.
When Martha comes stumbling out wild-eyed in her jammies, Jon’s sitting on the porch with a grin as bright as the dawn despite the fact his ears are still ringing.
“Turns out he has a good set of lungs.”

beautiful like to reblog ratio on this
That's because people are reblogging it every time they see it. Like I'm doing right now lmao
there is no middle & high school friendship stronger than the extremely sheltered Christian nerd and the mentally ill vaguely alternative transgender gay commie wastoid who also has next to no friends. I swear I had like 3 formerly homeschooled Christian apprentices during my time in school. got done smoking weed out of a soda can, ready to debate economic theory with a girl I had to explain what gambling was to. the cultural exchange of someone who has had their development stunted by a highly religious upbringing and someone who grew up way too fast and became too ‘worldly’ because they had no choice…
im telling you all... its so worth it to spend a whole evening make 100 million homemade gyoza (even though it takes so long) and freezing them all to have perfect delicious gyoza just the way you like them anytime you want at a moments notice. they seriously take like 10 minutes to prepare from frozen and they are so good. i just had a dumplings and noodles feast you wish you were me
heres teh gyoza recipe ive been using and heres the dumpling sauce recipe ive been using and here was the noodles recipe i ate. in case even 1 person on earth wanted this information

Netflix: we think theatres are dying
Markiplier: my indie film is seven weeks from release, and has gone from being distributed in 50 theaters to almost 300 theaters in three days almost 500 theaters in four days OVER 1000 theaters in five days
It's over 3000 and international.
Now if Iron Lung the movie gets a Blu-ray release, I suggest adding in the director's commentary starting with "Hello everybody, my name is Markiplier..." and also Markiplier in the corner.
