i remember the vets being really precious about it. like maybe this is just because i'm not very good at reading between the lines orally, but i straight up asked things like "are you telling me that she is dying?" or "should i be considering euthanasia?" and they'd be like "oh, well, you know, it's impossible to know for sure..."

like, i imagine there's some degree of liability or something involved, but i would have really appreciated a straight answer. cuz i spent like a week in denial as she wasted away in pain because i thought, like, "oh well they would have told me if it was something serious".

feels kinda fast? but maybe cuz i'm old.

but i fear that it's somewhat short-sighted.

fascists **LOVE** environments full of contradictions and resentment. they don't need to offer solutions, they can just point at contradictions and rally support. so you have to be careful when designing systems and solutions.

and what greater pain is there, in 40 years when this fight has been long forgotten, than "the government wants me to be a slave 40 hours a week even though it's pointless work that could be done faster, cheaper, and more accurately by a machine"?
