oh yeah. i duckduckwent there.
opens my jaw real wide and does this to u
so obviously charlie kirk was a fascist ghoul
but i think the events following his death are insane. like emblematic of a deeply broken society.
his political allies don't care and use his death to try to manufacture consent against trans people, then set up this evangelical coded like... memorial slash nazi rally slash self promo livestream??
the trans coding of the assassination fails completely because his fans are all insane and instead just assume his political allies in israel did it for some reason
his fans use ai to generate just endless slop in his image as a sort of performative mourning? like clearly they didn't care and just wanted a george floydd moment until they got bored and or distracted
the ai slop is entirely abandoned and adopted by his political enemies as a sort of ironic or postironic memeification of his life and death
his wife takes over his business immediately and is clearly very happy about it, even days after his death.
his work wife and his wife wife get into a performative mourning contest that ends with each of them separately claiming he had magic powers???
like jesus christ i'm so glad i'm not famous, dude, if this is the cost. absolutely resting in piss. not one single person on this planet cared if he lived or died.
what's funny about austin powers is that it's a parody of james bond. i have seen all 3 movies a hundred times as a kid, but to this day i have never seen a single james bond movie.
austin powers is like this hanging chad in my brain. it's nothing but a shadow but nothing is casting it.

I suppose it was only a matter of time
they're still doing monster hunters? that's such a 2009 kind of game to me. what even is it without the ad-hoc in-person multiplayer?
fuckable is such a funny word
like what isn't fuckable? able to be fucked. which i guess would just mean be somehow used in a sexual act. that's everything. the whole universe is fuckable.
month starting on a monday we have no excuse guys lets get to work and lock the fuck in
yk its actually very chic and avant garde to start on tuesday the second
many claim theres nothing more subversive and revolutionary than starting on wednesday the third
there are simply no words in the english language that can describe starting on thursday the fourth. thats how iconic it is
choosing to start on friday the fifth. i just think its very inspiring
lets all kill ourselves
i lock in on monday's sesh
tuesday's chic, wednesday's fresh
thursday has iconic flesh
it's friday, let's kill ourselves
Whenever i see people getting nostalgic for "old-fashioned" cheating on school assignments because at least it wasn't LLM-generated, and their argument is "cheating used to require you to learn something," I think they're from another universe.
Cheating on school assignments, from what I know, has always had the potential to be either "somewhat learning-adjacent" or "entirely mindless."
Before chat-whatever, yeah, sure, cheaters might manually copy their essays from somewhere (forcing them to engage with the material to a degree). But they also might copy-paste them from a shady website, or pay a classmate to write them (or coerce a classmate to write them with threats of being beaten up and shoved in a locker).
All of which would require the same amount of "actual engagement with the topic" as typing prompts into a generating program. Unless they looked through it afterwards to double-check stuff. Which, again, would be the same in either case.
As for standardized tests-- yeah, some cheaters would painstakingly write the answers onto something they brought with them illicitly (and I'm sure they still do, when the test doesn't allow them to bring a device capable of accessing LLMs). And yeah that does require some studying.
But, they also would do things like copy from the kid in front of them. Which could consist entirely of "looking at which circles on the answer sheet were getting penciled in," and no actual "reading the questions." Involving less engagement with the material than typing prompts. (And that's assuming they even went to the test in the first place, and didn't get a classmate to take it for them.)
The problem isn't a specific technology. That specific technology has plenty of inherent problems, but that is not one of them.
It's the fact that cheating on school assignments has been extremely common in many forms for a very long time-- and that people who consider cheating normal are now in a whole lot of positions of power-- and so they jump at the chance to push the idea that this new form of cheating is okay.
Which isn't an attractive truth, because it doesn't present any solutions (since "gaining enough power to kick cheaters out of power" could probably only be achieved by being a cheater, and then it's anyone's guess whether the decisions you make with that power will be any better than before.)
But then... gotta remember that "force the cheaters in power to outlaw LLMs" also doesn't present a solution, for pretty much the same reasons.
do you see a lot of people in power encouraging kids to cheat? i have only met a few people in ed who like kids using ai, and they're always that person. y'know. the type to always jump on fads cuz the fundamentals of their work just aren't there.
politicians handwave it away because they understand nothing, are fearful to have any stance, and they have both a financial interest and inertia carrying them to always support big tech blindly.
i do think the problem is overblown a little bit though. like, as a world language teacher, kids have been using automatic translators to cheat since the 00s. it's not slick, it's very obvious if you know your kids and their output. if you can't handle that, have students handwrite papers in person. like it's just not that hard to solve. no one in undergrad or below is putting in so much work and expertise that requires hours of independent research anyway.
I'm not personally familiar with the current teaching landscape, but I hear occasional stories about people in positions of power in education being okay with LLM usage-- more than I ever heard of being okay with earlier forms of cheating.
Though, maybe some of them feel it's like a gray area that isn't clearly defined yet as cheating. Like calculators (and how schools decided some lessons can allow calculators and some can't, but I imagine when they first became available that was all up for debate)
That said, you are right that most cheaters in power don't actively try to promote cheating (they got theirs and pulled up as many ladders behind them as possible, and they don't have any real interest in helping others use their methods).
They're just more okay with allowing it than people who actually care about integrity.
this has extremely not been my experience. what i do see, as is common in bureaucracies, is admin trying to dodge he-said she-said situations in academic honesty. it's just a shitty situation to be defending a teacher accusing a student of using ai to write their essay at the best of times, but when the teacher is wrong or it's not proveable, it's a nightmare. just bullying a child. so admin just avoid the whole thing.
think less idealistically and more practically. at work, everyone's prime concern is avoiding a pain in the ass.
i'm not saying that, like, people in power at any level didn't cheat growing up. i'm sure they did. i just do not see it play a role in their decision making. they're not so idealistic, they just want to go home and relax.
Some people seem upset that Guild Wars 3 is a prequel rather than a sequel, but like given that they still plan to update Guild Wars 2 alongside it of course it’s not going to be a direct sequel! Like if GW3 took place in the future it would be much more difficult to continue to make GW2 stories bc like. GW2’s story would be set in stone. We see this with Guild Wars Reforged: they’re adding some cool new dungeons and stuff, but they can’t really add a bunch of new storylines past what we already have bc we already know what happens in the time between GW1 and GW2.
So like. I’m genuinely excited for GW3!
i would be... shocked if gw2 gets major content updated and expansions very far into 3's lifecycle. like. yeah. final fantasy 11 (2002) still gets updates, but it's almost more charity or fanservice than anything else. ditto for gw1. 2 will be kept alive as long as the gem store generates revenue, but don't expect that much. the canon timeline isn't what is preventing more gw1 updates.
i don't mind it being a prequel personally. it's fine. the lore WILL be stepped all over, though, over the course of the next decade of story updates, and people will get mad. it's really setting the writers up for failure imo. also no sylvari, but maybe we'll get largos instead? nothing like revenant either. also the gw2 writers did kinda write themselves into a hole where there are no gods, no dragons, and have just been directionless since. but we'll see.

(letterboxd user reviewing Portal) it's "god forbid women do anything" vibes
(steam user reviewing Kill Bill) Let me make you an analogy. Kill Bill is kind of like cheese. Why? Becausue its good. You like cheese right? Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm cheese. Watch this movie. 👍
(ogre crossbowman) me going to use bone bolts after run out of poison ones and then me definitely going to rout
REALLY funny thing about Guild Wars 3 given the trailer and news blogs.
So it's over 1,000 years before GW1, and Abaddon is still there given the trailer embroidery.
Guild Wars 3 is Before Exodus.
The first Guild War was 100 AE.
We yet again have another Guild Wars game that does not take place during The Titular Guild Wars.
i feel like doing a prequel is slightly a mistake. there's so much dumb lore to fuck up. plus locks us out of sylvari.
