A quick note on Luke:

Luke is easily one of the best written characters in THT and they don’t hold back with his portrayal. He’s emotionally immature, misogynistic at times, and he externalizes his emotions. He’s a really honest portrayal of how someone who already has some maladaptive traits might cope with compounding trauma and how it affects the people around them.

I think the dynamic between these three is really a lesson on the importance of couples having aligning values and principles.

June didn't end up fully committed to a relationship with either of them in the end, but whereas June and Luke still love each other and will forever be a unit and a family, Nick and June (literally) went down in flames.

June loved Luke and Nick and Nick and Luke loved June, but both June and Luke also shared the goal of seeing Gilead fall. Their values, the morals and priorities they had outside of their relationship, were aligned. Because of this there is a baseline of respect and shared values that means whatever form their relationship takes, there's always going to be something steady and enduring there.

because THAT is who he is. he loves his stars and creations, he loves humanity, he loves the messiness, the good and the bad, the ugly and the beautiful, he loves watching them. he showed jesus all the kingdoms of the world to share that love with someone who he knows already felt it.

in the end, they made that choice together. it's a choice they have made before, over and over, saving humanity over themselves. no god, no angels, no demons, no thousands of years of suffering for all the millions of eternal beings.

personally, i choose to believe that god's last gift to them was integrating them into the fabric of the new universe, so they will find each other in every lifetime. but without anyone watching, without any plan behind it, without senseless suffering, without creating stars just to destroy them.
