i am so certain that the marvel-fication of the walking dead is what tanked both the viewership and the prestige of the show that when i see people clamoring for the twd-verse to continue expanding with endless spinoffs and crossovers and pointless lore i just cannot wrap my head around it

#it didn’t start off as a corny action franchise!!#the first few seasons were grounded and gritty with excellent character development #the dialogue was actually good not just cheesy one liners meant to be quoted on social media #it felt like watching what the zombie apocalypse would actually be like in a world recognizable as the one we live in #with all the interpersonal conflicts that would result from that #but it the focus turned from realism and immersion to how many cool action shots and quippy lines they could jam into an episode #AND DONT GET ME STARTED ON THE FUCKING PACING #it feels like they forgot all the real world concerns that made the early seasons so good #ie where do we get food water and meds?#what do we do when members of the group come into conflict?#how do people cope with doing bad things to survive?#all of that got pushed aside for cartoony superhero stuff #idk why you’d want more #it’d take an actual miracle to course correct at this point #anyway frank darabont if you’re out there…#twd
