can we normalize liking a villain without excusing them. mapleshade was screwed over, yes, but she’s not an angel. sure, tigerstar was abandoned and looked down upon cause of it, but that doesn’t mean he was valid in his crimes. skystar lost a lot, doesn’t make him a good cat. scourge? not a good cat. hawkfrost? not a good cat. one eye? slash? ashfur? every other villain?
it’s worse when they make excuses for villains but then blame cats like yellowfang or breezepelt for things that happened to them.
below cut cause this got long and turned into a whole ass au.
no, not because he’s tigerstar’s son or because of hawkfrost’s influence, but because of the pressure put on him by thunderclan. everybody is just waiting for him to snap, to take his first life, waiting for an excuse to hate him, and he wants to give them that just so their hatred is valid. he loves everybody in thunderclan so very much, he’d do anything for them, and he means anything. if they want to hate him, he’ll give them a real reason. but who would he even be able to hurt? squirrelpaw? a family member? firestar himself?
he decides on graystripe, he’s important enough. he knows he won’t win, he’s heard of how that tom fought against bloodclan, he’ll just be able to be hated, maybe he would be exiled and could go live with tawnypelt…
but it worked. he didn’t understand how—he even warned graystripe with a yowl—but he won. graystripe didn’t even fight back in all the confusion. then the guilt sunk in. yes, he just wanted to give the clan a real reason to hate him, but he didn’t mean to completely kill graystripe, just hurt him. he brought graystripe’s body back to camp without explaining what happened, and left while everybody was gathering in their grief. he couldn’t go back to thunderclan.
the same night is when he met up with the other prophecy dream cats. he, reluctantly, met up with everybody and acted like nothing had happened back home. squirrelpaw had snuck out that night to be alone and caught him she warned everybody he was a killer, but they thought she was just being rude for him being tigerstar’s kit. squirrelpaw insisted on coming anyways.
brambleclaw does get exposed on the journey. feathertail and stormfur go ballistic on him. sure, graystripe was pretty absent, but he was still their father. they force him to leave, and he goes back to the clans with tawnypelt, who understood that feeling of just wanting to fit in, but knowing letting the others be right is easier. he went back to thunderclan just to expose himself, apologize, and let them know squirrelpaw was safe. he didn’t let anybody speak before he left, and nobody chased him.
he joins shadowclan with her, but he doesn’t fit in there. thunderclan looked at him with disdain, but shadowclan looking at him like a leader was worse. riverclan would be a bad idea for obvious reasons, and windclan seemed wrong for him.
he considers just leaving the clans all together, maybe becoming a kittypet, but then the journey cats come back. he’s still in shadowclan at this time, so he gets the news. that was what solidified not coming back.
the day that all of the clans were getting ready to leave, he set off to the twolegplace, but someone recognized him. firestar. at first, firestar was angry, but seeing the guilty, drained look on brambleclaw’s face, he backed down. he begs for forgiveness, and he gets it, but he is still not allowed back to thunderclan. he ends up living in princess’s house.
he treks to the new clan territory after princess dies, just to let firestar and cloudtail get some closure. he is invited to join shadowclan once more, but he denies. he lives a good, long life as a kittypet and wanders as a ghost with princess, ravenpaw, and barley.
also after he killed graystripe, brackenfur became deputy then leader, picking squirrelflight as his deputy.

Top trans headcanon: No matter what anybody says, Brambleclaw is a trans woman in my heart. Let her be Brambleflower <3
Canon/closest to canon trans headcanon: Since none are actually canon, I’m gonna say the closest one is trans man Firestar. He was originally written to be a girl, so I think that counts well enough.
Rare trans headcanon: Trans woman Dustpelt! I have 0 reasoning, I just really like it.
Least favorite trans headcanon: Trans man Squirrelflight. Some people just wish she was a man cause they think she’s annoying as a girl. Ew.
Overrated but good trans headcanon: Listen, I know torties can be males sometimes…but Redtail is trans. Redtail’s Debt solidified that for me.
Overrated and bad (opinion wise) trans headcanon: Mosskit. Yes, she was referred to as a girl and a boy in the same book, but she is a kit. Kids can be trans, but I just don’t like it for Mosskit.
Underrated trans headcanon: Trans woman Brackenfur! I could talk about her for hours…
Favorite trans man headcanon: I simply adore trans man Skystar. Sure, he sucks, but sucky people can still be trans. Always remember that.
Favorite trans woman headcanon: Ok yes another DOTC, Thunderstar. I love transfemming big buff men because what if they were big buff WOMEN?
Favorite t4t headcanon ship: Trans woman Brambleclaw x trans man Stormfur. They don’t interact in arc 1, but I love their doomed potential in arc 2.
Top lesbian ship: Sandstorm x Silverstream! They’ve probably never interacted but they’re both pretty buff ladies and fanfic does enough service.
Canon/closest to canon lesbian ship: Since none are actually canon, I say that Bumble x Turtle Tail is closest to canon. Turtle Tail left the clans to live with Bumble and was sad (i think) when she died.
Lesbian rarepair: Sandstorm x Ferncloud! If Firestar and Dustpelt ended up together, that leaves behind two gals that could become wives.
Least favorite (non-illegal) lesbian ship: Frostfur x Goldenflower. Nothing against it, I just don’t see the vision, nothing special about it.
Overrated but good lesbian ship: Bluestar x Yellowfang! Definitely the top lesbian ship in this series, and it’s pretty solid!
Overrated and bad (opinion wise) lesbian ship: I know Foxheart isn’t directly mentioned in arc one, but Yellowfang x Foxheart. I do not like Foxheart and refuse to believe that Yellowfang would ever love her.
Underrated lesbian ship: Yet another Yellowfang ship, Yellowfang x Russetfur! The second Russet joined the clan, I hoped that her and Yellowfang would get more pages together, but alas, it is warrior cats…
Favorite toxic lesbian ship: Violet Dawn x Star Flower. Not toxic in canon, but DEFINITELY has the potential, both being Thunderstar’s crushes. If Star Flower still loved Thunderstar and not his dad when Violet Dawn came along, they might fight for him and then fall in love…take notes fanfic writers…
Favorite doomed lesbian ship: Bumble x Turtle Tail once again…why does Skystar kill every potential for wlw???
Favorite t4t headcanon lesbian ship: tfem Brackenfur x tfem Dustpelt! Of course, warrior cats’ weird thing of making Frostfur Dustpelt’s sister makes this weird, but I’m 99% sure none of you knew that they were related. Remove the relation, perfect.

Top gay ship: Firestar x Dustpelt! I’ve been shipping them for about a year now, mostly fueled by a fanfic on AO3 called Arid.
Canon/closest to canon gay ship: Ravenpaw x Barley! I’m so happy they finally got a true book confirmation, they deserve the world!
Gay rarepair: Gray Wing x Riverstar! I think I would’ve been happier with the ending of DOTC if Gray Wing wasn’t in a loveless relationship, and it was so obvious Riverstar loved him.
Least favorite (non-illegal) gay ship: Tigerstar x Darkstripe. It just rubs me kind of wrong considering that Tigerstar practically abused Darkstripe when he was an apprentice, but one-sided is totally fine with me.
Overrated but good gay ship: Tallstar x Jake! Before reading Tallstar’s Revenge, I completely thought they were just being shipped because they were friends, but I totally see it now.
Overrated and bad (opinion wise) gay ship: Once again, Darkstripe x Tigerstar, for the same reason.
Underrated gay ship: Redtail x Oakheart! They didn’t have much chemistry in the books, but I like to imagine they got close at gatherings :)
Favorite toxic gay ship: Tigerstar x Redtail. They compliment each other in the worst way possible.
Favorite doomed gay ship: Firestar x Whitestorm! A controversial one, yes, but Whitestorm dying while thinking Firestar would pick Graystripe over him…the thought kills me in a good way.
Favorite t4t headcanon gay ship: tmasc Firestar x tmasc Sandstorm! I like to think that Sandstorm still identifies with femininity, but calls himself a tom, and Firestar was originally going to be a molly so that just fell into place for me. How’d they have kits? Don’t ask me!
why didnt bluefur just kill thistleclaw and frame a riverclan patrol. she couldve kept her kits if she just killed him!!!! starclan would forgive her!!!!!!!!!
