All of this talking ill about Darkstripe only makes me feel more sympathy about the guy. As waful as he was, he was still victim to himself. It's so easy to feel comtempt with assholes (unless they are somehow cool), that we forget we might as well be like them if our circumstances. whatever physical or mental, haven't been more favorable.

Darkstripe just never grew out of that angsty teenage phase. Dude was a man-child, er, a tom-kitten. He could have been a loner, if he hated Clan life so much.

not the intended interpretation, obviously, but darkstripe's behavior actually reminds me of "angry depression" in some ways funnily enough. the misery you feel is focused on anger and discontent rather than sadness and hopelessness, the isolation from the broader clan and even his family works with that as well. it's interesting to think about him in an armchair way.

I think that, crucially, thinking about whether or not Darkstripe had something wrong with him mentally kinda misses the point of his character. Because in the end it doesn't actually matter, he sucked and then he died.

Most of the biggest assholes I ever met either were raised in environments that shaped them into being pieces of shit or had some kind of disorder, so I'm curious. Did Darkstripe have something wrong with his brain? Like some kind of personality disorder? Or was bro just like that for no reason?

I met a real-life Darkstripe of all things and I respect Firestar for keeping his temper in check longer than I would have. Did Darkstripe ever try to threaten Goldenflower by any chance? The one I met tried picking a fight with a nurse of all things by threatening them after storming off when I refused to give them my god given name. What is a god given name anyway?
