Someone once told me it’s like that because it was designed to be hung in a stairwell so the skull pops out as you walk past.

There was a whole trend at one point where artists would include something in their paintings (usually a skull, for whatever reason) that’s super distorted in just the right way so that it looks normal if you hold the painting up to a convex/concave mirror. I have absolutely no idea why. But I think that’s what’s going on here.

The argument for standing desks (intended to sell them) that humans didn’t “evolve to” sit at a desk all day is so absurd... how is the solution to this standing at a desk all day lol? That’s also awful, and worse or impossible for many people (ask cashiers). What we’re not “evolved to do” is sell 40+ hours a week of our lives to companies who pay us a fraction of the value we create. We’re not evolved to stare at a corporate screen or fake politeness for customers or tear ourselves away from the things & people we actually care about for so many hours a week that we have broken spirits and exhausted bodies even in our “free” time. That onion article about scientists recommending not only standing at your desk but walking right out of the office is both very funny and genuinely accurate (not that scientific institutions are actually recommending it, but the science supports it)
