Reblog the writersâ fortune cookie for luck!
Guys I reblogged this and then wrote an 8000 word story I didnât even have a solid plan for. Reblog this shit.
I love these comics by Nathan W. Pyle.
Here are some more good ones
LET ME ABS O R B
@diseonfire here have some more
Perhaps I prefer fewer revolutions and more minerals is a mood
@thefingerfuckingfemalefury there is more
THEY CRAVE THOSE MINERALS
Also the next time we watch a horror movie I am totally going to say to my gf âI hope these beings make correct strategic decisionsâŚyet I know they will notâ
âImagine pleasant nonsenseâ is actually good advice
Itâs the BEST advice! :D
ive been reading a book that basically explains how so-called âbrain differencesâ between the genders is the result of gendered socialization and not the cause of it. i honestly expected the book to be very cis-centric but its actually the opposite, the author stresses that testimony from trans ppl is actually indispensable because weâve, in a sense, âlived both experiencesâ
more cis feminists should have this mindset
one of the first examples that she uses to introduce her point about how perception by others can shape a personâs performance actually uses a trans woman. it explains that as a certain trans woman became to be seen as a woman more and more frequently, the ppl arond her eventually started viewing her as being ill equipped for tasks that they did not bother her about pre-transition. eventually she even found herself underperforming in these tasks herself.
whats the name of the book
Delusions of Gender by Cordelia Fine
Hereâs a pdf, babes <3
I knew it was this book before Iâd finished reading the first two lines. Honestly this book is indispensible if you want to debunk any gender determinism people claim is science. I canât recommend it enough.
Sheâs written a new one! It won the Royal Society prize for science book of the year, and itâs called Testosterone Rex, and it is excellent.
(Bonus: itâs making old white men really really mad.)
(Bonus bonus: I am myself a neuroscientist, and the old white men mentioned above â who are not â could not have missed the point harder if theyâd actively tried. Which. Maybe?)
Thanks to moon-boob for providing a PDF, but please, buy the book if you have the disposable income. SUPPORT THIS AUTHOR!!

THE DEFINITIVE GUIDE TO MAKING THE BEST HOMEMADE CARAMELS OF YOUR LIFE
Follow for recipes
Is this how you roll?
back in april i watched moral orel & clayâs speech in sacrifice⌠i was impressed, but i didnât understand it initially. so i dissected it & wrote an analysis of it, so here it is.
transcript of the speech:
(1) Tell me, Doc. Did some of those pain killers protect her against you? You know. The pain. Of you. Day in, day out, being there. With that face. Not knowing what to say. Not caring anymore. Not even knowing that youâll probably only care about her when itâs finally too late.Â
(2) Forgetting about all those desperate- those desperate years you spent alone, your barren years when no woman would even consider resting her tired head on your shaky little shoulder. Stinking of belly semen. Why even wipe?Â
(3) And when you finally get one of these [Points at Dolly and imitates a fanfare] coveted pieces of tail that have been built up as the grand trophy in your nothing life, you try desperately to keep it. Not to protect it! But to hoard it. To keep it away from the other wolves and jackals circling your territory!Â
(4) And you realize, all too soon, that youâre not good enough! That maybe there was a jerk-off called Darwin after all. And that you never acknowledged his existence because you knew deep inside that you were really what you feared you were- weak. And passive. And ultimately, broken by the ones who were made the fittest. And that through your weaknesses, you built up a poison that poisoned others around you. [About to cry] That you love. And the only true justice was to let those dominant jackals feed on you. Survive off you.
my analysis:
For starters, some people are interpreting his speech as if heâs exclusively talking about himself; heâs not. Heâs referencing the plights of the three men heâs addressing, and said plights happen to also (mostly) apply to him. Heâs not raving about himself, at least until the end; heâs reading the men for filth, and using his own experiences to further get them where it hurts.
(1) Clay starts with the doctor, who he accuses of having purposefully killed his own wife, out of never having cared about her and wanting her done away with (âI hope you die / I hope we both die.â). This is something Clay relates to, but he turns it around and, strangely, empathizes with the wife - asking the doctor if heâs tricked himself into thinking that the medicinal comfort he provided her in her final days made up for the years she wasted being with a man who didnât care about her, not even enough to try to communicate in an attempt fix things. He cares now that sheâs gone, because he knows he didnât appreciate what he had when he had it. He never couldâve known that you could miss something once itâs gone even if you loathed it when you actually had it.
(2) Then he turns to Reverend Putty, and Clay finds himself unable to relate to him; instead, he feels resentment and a mocking sense of pity. Putty had spent so many years alone, and yet when he finally got what heâd wanted all this time, he was unappreciative and choosy, when Clay, and several other of the town (and society)âs men, had simply had to settle for whatever they could find, and thus felt victimized by having âhadâ to resign themselves. Itâs kind of an âare you happy now, asshole?â thing. The semen thing is a bit random and off putting, but I suppose heâs referring to Puttyâs frequent masturbation. He, almost sadly, asks him what the point of wiping it away every time is, when itâs a daily reality. That it always ends up being him and his hand. I donât think Clay was also speaking about himself here, though I suppose he does relate to feeling intimacy-starved.
(3) His third target is the officer, whoâs struggling with having lost his wife to divorce and, now, to another man. This Clay relates to, and finally, he starts to get emotional. Clay also abandons his martyr complex for a moment and is uncharacteristically self-aware and self-critical. The âcoveted pieces of tailâ bit gets its own section in a moment, because it ties into the whole theme of Clayâs rant and Iâll use it to conclude this analysis, so for now, weâll address the second part. Clay says that once you find a woman, you put your energy into keeping her (âitâ, in his words, because Clayâs very much a misogynist, in the traditionalist sense). But thereâs no noble intentions - itâs not a desire to protect, itâs simple greed. Territorialism. Animal instinct⌠nature, really. Clayâs very pre-occupied with the worldâs ânatural orderâ. He doesnât question anything; he enforces what appeals to and backs up his warped perception of reality, and disregards the rest.
4) He carries this idea about nature into his assault on his final target; himself. Itâs the emotional climax of his rant, and he finally finds it in himself to address his own issues blatantly, though still not directly; he never can speak candidly without deflecting. Clayâs final conclusion is that Darwinâs theory of evolution was right all along, especially in the concept of natural selection, otherwise known as âthe survival of the fittestâ. Clay falls into male insecurity here; worrying that maybe heâs been a beta male the whole time, weak and passive and complacent, and was made worse by the alphas out to get him⌠namely, the world as a whole. While he doesnât accept responsibility, he at least displays some self-awareness by acknowledging his behavior has harmed his family, though he blames said behavior on having been broken by the world⌠by the natural course of the universe. Though he canât fault himself for building up âa poisonâ, as, to him, thatâs an understandable coping mechanism against what heâd endured, he does fault himself for poisoning his loved ones - namely, Orel. I think destroying his relationship with the one person who loved him unconditionally really fucked him up. And for his crime of being poison, the only justice is to surrender to the beast that is nature. Let it feed on him, so that the cycle can continue.
Itâs a commentary on the American ideal, especially in a little Bible belt town like Moralton; the commonly accepted idea that the only objective in life is to find a spouse (âthe grand trophyâ) and procreate. In Moral Orelâs characters, this is emphasized to the extent that anyone who doesnât achieve this is ostracized and labeled by their loneliness (see: the alone episode, where the women live in a place called âapartments for spinstersâ). Those âlonely soulsâ then desperately seek comfort in another human, any other human, without acknowledging the possibility that they could be just fine and happy on their own. They idealize the concept of companionship to all hell (Putty, especially), and are envious of married people, without realizing that marriage out of obligation is a recipe for a lifetime of misery. And while Clay finds himself victimized by this ideal, rather than being angry at the actual concept, in a rare moment of taking responsibility (and of course he misplaces it), he blames himself for not being able to live up to a common standard. Because heâs not strong enough to happily resign himself, like a man âshouldâ. Everyone always said thatâs all anyone ever needed; a family to cherish. So why isnât it enough for Clay? Whatâs wrong with him for being so dissatisfied? It canât be that itâs simply a bullshit âidealâ, because he likely thinks said ideal came from God himself - so it must be Clay himself. This is sometimes where his occasional self-loathing comes from, when it manages to overwhelm the narcissism; not that heâs a bad person, but that heâs a bad man. That heâs a weak man. I hesitate to use the term, but dare I say toxic masculinity? He, and the other men in their small, closed off little world, are just so damn desperate to fit into what theyâre âsupposedâ to be. Whatâs right - whatâs Godâs will. Fuck individuality; in their conservative and traditional society, they have a set path they must stick to. If they deviate, theyâre an abomination, but God forbid they let anyone know theyâre not perfect - and so, theyâre stuck, alone, in their own misery and unhappiness, living with their sins and lies and shame. Not knowing they have any other options.
Clayâs entire rant is about the masculine end of this concept; you find a nice woman and you marry her, because thatâs what youâre supposed to do, right? And you hope youâll find fulfillment and stability and contentment with her. You even hope to love her, but you canât when youâre too busy loathing her for taking your freedom away. You never realized marriage was the first step out of the liberty of adolescence, and into adult misery. You thought things would be better, because why else would this be the ideal? So you start to hate her. But you canât leave because then, what do you have? Nothing (âin your nothing lifeâ). Then you have kids, and you pray youâll find what you wanted (and needed) all along in that instead. Being a husband wasnât what you thought itâd be, but maybe being a father will be different. Because those empty titles you can claim as pieces of your identity are the only things you have. And you fucked up being a son, you fucked up being a husband, and you wonât let yourself fuck up being a dad.
But when youâre Clay, the wife introduced you to the bottle years ago, and you began relying on it to silence how much you hated the control she had over you. Suddenly, youâre an alcoholic, and you want to care about your son(s), but you canât. You want to love them, but you donât. Hell, years later, you start a relationship with a man, and he loves you, more than your wife has in years, and you want to love him back, but you just canât. That part of you that loved your mother years ago has since been destroyed by years of drinking and bitterness and anger. Youâve spent so long blaming everyone (your wife, your father, God, society), because you could never deal with the reality that it might be you. But at the back of your head, you know it is, yet you try to drown it out with the booze. But it never goes away, and you know youâre poison, and you hate yourself, as you told your son in the forest that one awful night. And then youâre in a bar ranting to a bunch of pathetic, lonely assholes, trying to make them feel as shitty as you do, because thatâs the only control you have anymore. But at the same time, you know youâre the most pathetic, lonely one there. And then they leave, like everyone else, and youâre alone. Alone with yourself. And you hate them for leaving, but you canât blame them for thinking youâre not worth it. Because you know youâre not, and thatâs the hardest pill to swallow.
That is fascinating! đŠđžâđŚąđ
Ok so I like boys and I might be a trans dude but Iâm really attracted to the lesbian label idk why but aaa isnsuhsuwnsus Idk what to do what is wrong with me please help me
I have the same problem with the term âbutchâ, I really like it but Iâm not a lesbian so I canât exactly use it
so instead I just call myself a sparrow stag (meaning a sorta low-maintenance masculine nb)
Queer men (especially trans men) have been using the term butch for decades, and the movement to redefine butch and femme as lesbian exclusive terms is spearheaded by and beneficial to terfs.
If butch is the word that fits, then use it. Terfs donât deserve to shape your life or our community.
Terfs donât define us, and they certainly donât define you.
is that true? Do you know where I could read more about it? The only things I could find just state that butch is a lesbian term
Iâm on mobile right now, which is always hard on research, but I will collect you some sources tonight, no worries
Thank you so much!
Starting off simply, hereâs a timeline of the history of âbutch,â exploring its roots in working class queer women of colorâs bars (remember, the word lesbian just meant âwoman who has sex with womenâ until the 70s). The 80s is when the author first starts talking about the use of butch by queer men. Specifically, urban men of color.
And, while I hate to play the âdefer to authorityâ card, when it comes to butch identity, there are few people who would know more about it than Butch Voices, the largest butch activist organization in the world. Which specifically refuses to exclude men, and more than that explicitly includes trans men.
Gay men often describe themselves (check out these personals ads), their partners or their friends in terms of being femme or butch, not just in casual contexts, but in research ones. Thatâs how deeply these identities are felt. Again and again, the term used to describe all queer masculinity is butch.
And while most definitions by queer organizations welcome and acknowledge the fact that butch was popularized in post-WWII womenâs spaces, youâll note an absence of gender limitations on the definitions themselves.
Thatâs because butch identity, by its very nature, is a violation of gender norms (one that some people say is outdated and antiquated, though I strongly disagree).
And so, too, are all forms of queerness ultimately a violation of gender normativity, of strict definition and categorization.
Thatâs why major butch authors, for example, hesitate to even use traditional gender pronouns such as âheâ or âsheâ when writing about the hypothetical butch. Because a butch may be a woman, but womanhood is not a necessary component of butchness. And I do apologize for that link, I know it only shows scraps of the whole book, but it does at least include a couple of the more relevant essays about the complexity of trying to assign a gender to butch identity.
For all queer peopleâincluding the menâbutch identity is an act of reclamation of masculine performance, in the same way that for all queer peopleâincluding the womenâfemme identity is a reclamation of feminine performance, ripping it out of the hands of the cisheteronormative hegemony and saying, hey, fuck you, you donât get to decide who counts as what, who gets to do what, get fucked. And this can be fumbled, of course, but so can anything. Performance is what it is, and we all make missteps.
Now, as for the other half of my conclusion: that the constant claims about butch (and femme) being âlesbian exclusiveâ are TERF propaganda.
The following links require content warnings far in excess of just âthese talk about queer history and the evolution of terminology.â
These are links to TERF news articles written and intended for non-TERF audiences. That means they present TERF talking points in positive language. Be careful when you approach them, be careful when you read them.
Since at least the 1980s, when masculinizing medical transition started becoming more accessible on a larger scale, trans-exclusionary feminists and trans-exclusionary lesbian separatists have been going out of their way to erase, shame, and punish their trans brothers and lovers for âbetrayingâ them,.
A great many people who had previously identified as hard-butch lesbians because it was the only word they new moved into identifying as trans men. And because radical feminist, lesbian separatist theory had no place for any kind of men, the only way that kind of act could be frames was as treachery. The men who did so, some of whom had been stalwart feminists for decades, some of whom had even been powerful voices in second wave feminist movements, were suddenly treated as abusers, drug peddlers, and sexual criminals.
And that is why it is imperative that we refuse to let TERFs define who does and does not get to be butch. They never got to before, and they sure as hell donât get to now.
I am all here for a great resource post and @intersex-ionality kinda knocked it out of the park with this one.
Hereâs more evidence that TERFs donât get to define anything in our community, especially not for butch people.
Bigotry has no place in our community. TERFs are bigots and have no place in our community.
Butch here! Literally all of this is historically accurate.
The butch and ftm community pretty much started out as the same community and then diverged slightly when the trans label became a thing. Before the identity existed there were butches using he/him and even taking T. For example Leslie Fienberg, the author of Stone Butch Blues, started out identifying as a butch lesbian which he explained was defined by his lack of connection to womanhood. He now identifies as trans, uses he/him pronouns, and takes T.
Every single butch Iâve ever talked to has said that they have at best an extremely convoluted and challenging relationship with their womanhood. Many experience gender dysphoria to varying degrees. A handful use he/him pronouns or change their names to be more masculine. Every butch I know described wearing femmenine stuff as numbing, humiliating, dishonest, and even painful. They describe masculine expression as empowering, genuine, exhilarating, etc and big leather jackets/boots as armor.
Some of those butches were bisexual, non-binary, trans men, etc. And you know what? Very few of them had issues with other butches but they tended to get a lot of shit from, unsurprisingly, white lesbian feminists.
My point is butch is a label for a feeling and experience more than it is an identity. If I didnât identify as a lesbian I would still identify as butch because hypermasculinity and the expression of it is fundamental to who I am. If the hat fits, donât let some terf bullshit keep you from it.
old dyke here, love this post/thread! ime pretty much any time you see lesbian gatekeeping including âonly lesbians can reclaim dykeâ, âonly lesbians can use butch and femmeâ, âlesbians canât be bi or pan tooâ, âd-slurâ, etc., youâve found separatist/terf propaganda.Â
I hate this

rb this with ur opinion on this shade of pink:
This is magenta, and not pink. Unlike pink, magenta doesnât actually exist. Our brain just invents magenta to serve as what it considers a logical bridge between red and violet, which each exist at opposite ends of a linear spectrum.
TL;DR this color is fake (and also I hate it)
Wait til you learn about Stygean Blue
Your brain is a badly-designed hot mess of bootstrapped chemistry that will tell you that all kinds of shit is happening that has no correlation to physical reality, including time travel. It just makes things up. Your brain is guessing about whatâs happening when your eyes saccade, whatâs happening in your blind spot, and what the majority of the visible light spectrum looks like, and you donât know itâs happening because it doesnât aid your survival to become aware that a lot of what you see is fake.
The human eye only has three types of color sensitive cones, which detect red, blue, and green light. Your brain is making up every other color you perceive.
Letâs have a little fun with that thought. This is the visible spectrum of light.
You will of course note that yellow is on the chart. Yellow has a discreet wavelength, and is therefore a distinct physical color. But we canât see it.
âSorry, what the fuck?â
What we call yellow is just what our brain shrugs and spits out when our red and green cones are equally stimulated. We have light receptors that can pick up on the physical spectrum of light we call yellow: thatâs why yellow things donât just look like moving black blocks to us. But your brain has no fucking idea what the color yellow looks like.Â
Some animals have eyes that can perceive the color yellow! Goldfish have a yellow cone in their eyes. If they could talk, they could tell us what yellow looks like. But we wouldnât be able to understand it.
What your brain actually sees of the color spectrum:
We can measure the wavelength of light, so we know that when we see âyellow,â we are seeing light in that 550-ish nanometers range. But we donât have a cone in our eyes that can pick that up. Your brain just has a very consistent guess about what color that wavelength of light could be. We decided to name that guess âyellow.â We canât imagine what yellow really looks like any more than a dog can imagine the color red.
Hereâs the funny thing: your brain is never perceiving just one photon of light at a time. Something like 2*10⸠photons per second are hitting your retina under normal conditions. Your brain doesnât individually process all of them. So it averages them out. It grabs a bunch of photons all coming from the same direction, with the same pattern, and goes, âyeah, that cup is blue, fuck it, next.â
Thatâs how colors blend in our eyes. So sure, if a photon of light with a wavelength of 550 nanometers bounces into our eyes, we see what we call âyellow.â But if we see two photons at the same time, coming from the same object, one of which is 500 nms and the other of which is 600 nms, your brain will average them out and you will still see yellow even though none of the light you just saw was 550 nms.
So how does magenta factor into this?
Well, as weâve just established, when your brain sees light from two different slices of the visible light spectrum, it will try to just average them together. Green plus red is yellow, fuck it. If itâs more red than green, weâll call that âorange.â Literally who gives a shit, weâre trying to forage over here. There are bears out here and itâs so scary.
What happens if you take the average of blue and red light, which we perceive to be magenta? Whatâs the centerpoint of that line?
Fucking green.
Hey, thatâs not gonna work? We live on a planet where EVERYTHING IS GREEN. If something is NOT green, that means itâs either food, or a potential source of danger, and either way your brain wants you to know about it.
So your brain goes, WHOOPS. Okay - this is fine. We already made up yellow, orange, cyan, and violet. Weâll just make up another color. Something that looks really, really different from green.Â
And so it made up magenta.
So, physics-wise, is magenta âreal?â
No; thereâs no single wavelength of light that corresponds to magenta. But youâre rarely seeing only a single wavelength of light anyway. And even when you are, every color other than RGB is a dart thrown on the wall by your meat computer. This is the CIE Chromaticity Diagram:
Explaining this thing is a little more than I want to take on on a Saturday morning, but Iâve included a link above that goes into it a little more. The point is that only the colors that actually touch the âoutlineâ of the shape actually correspond to a specific wavelength of light. All of the other colors are blends of multiple wavelengths. So magenta isnât special.
Given that color is just a fun trick your brain is playing on you to help you find food and avoid danger, is magenta real?
Yeah, absolutely. Or at least, itâs just as real as most of what we see. Itâs what we see when we mix up blue and red. It would be disastrous from a survival standpoint to perceive that color as green, so we donât. Because itâs not green. Light thatâs green has a wavelength of around 510 nm. Stuff thatâs magenta bounces back light that is both ~400 and ~700. Your brain knows the difference. So it fills in the gap for you, with the best guess it has, same as it does with your blind spot.
The perception of color exists within your brain, and your brain says you see magenta. So you see magenta.
So I googled Stygian Blue andâŚ
