She is one of the most hated anime girls I've ever personally encountered. A majority of the fandom thinks that all of the negative aspects of the plot (i.e. the things that negatively impact the two main characters of the show, Nine and Twelve) are solely her fault, or that she is a useless addition to the plot. I've seen many, many posts on how fans wish she had died in the plot, wished she never existed, or just calling her general insults like stupid and useless.

She is so much more than the fandom thinks she is. She was 9 and 12's connection to real life and real friendship, she carries their memories on after their deaths, and she showed them that other people out there would care about them and what was done to them. I could go on forever actually <3

Kitty Higham

Kitty is a well-liked character by a lot of the fandom, but she is often sidelined and infantilised by fans. Her being black and very possibly neurodivergent very likely makes things even worse for her. Despite her being said to be “of age” in canon (her age was later confirmed to be 23), many people in the fandom would headcanon her to be as young as 12 (the actress playing her was in her thirties) due to her somewhat naive and optimistic personality. Fans who shipped her with other characters would often get harassed (note: the characters being men that were commonly shipped with other men in the cast) for shipping an “underage” character with an adult. Kitty canonically shows a lot of interest in romance and sex, but a lot of people in the fandom choose to ignore this and make her out to be an innocent little girl who doesn’t even know what sex is.
