An open letter to people against bootlegs...
Recording bootlegs is illegal.
Watching bootlegs is NOT illegal.
I never have, nor will I ever, recorded a bootleg, but I sure as hell will watch bootlegs. And you wanna know what? Watching them has given me the opportunity to see shows or casts that I would have otherwise never been able to see because they are closed or certain cast members had left already. Watching them perpetuated my love for whatever show they were of and, if anything, made me want to see it more. I watched the Bootlegs of Something Rotten and Book of Mormon, but you bet your ass I still bought tickets for them when they came to town. I know and understand that a shitty quality recording doesn’t do a show justice, so I don’t dare judge how good or bad a show is purely based on one.
But sometimes bootlegs are the only way I can even slightly enjoy shows. I know I’m blessed that I’m able to see any shows at all, but as a college student who is already going to an overpriced school and working and underpaying job, I don’t have the money to drop on tickets to a show like Hamilton all the time. Tickets that, when on tour, nearly ALL went to season pass holders and then sold out in the pre-sale to people who had the access code.
I would love to be able to drop my schooling for several days and afford to fly to New York, pay for a hotel, pay for travel, pay for food, and pay for a ticket to see the show, but that’s just not going to happen. And I know it’s even harder for people who live in a completely different country.
People who watch bootlegs don’t do it because they don’t want to go see the real thing, they watch them because they can’t go see the real thing. You’re crazy if you really believe people would prefer to watch a 480p shaky video than see real actors on stage. The hard truth is that Broadway-quality theatre isn’t accessible for many. And I say broadway-quality theatre because I always see people saying there is theatre everywhere and you can go see shows at your community theatre. And yes that is true, and I do believe that people should support their local theatres when they can, but you and I both know that that’s not in any way equivalent to a Broadway production. A community theatre production might have a production budget of a few thousand dollars. Broadway often has millions. Community theatre actors are generally acting on the side or are still in schooling to further better their acting capabilities. Actors on Broadway, acting is literally their life. Of course, I know points like these don’t apply to ALL community theatres, but you can’t deny that there is a significant quality difference between a community show that runs for a few weeks vs. a Broadway show that is set up to run for potentially years.
Just because Broadway is accessible to you doesn’t mean everyone else has the same chances. And even when opportunities to go to the theatres (any theatre) present themselves, not everyone has the means to be there. I understand why people are against bootlegs, but to say that people who don’t have access or can’t afford to go to the theatre basically just need to suck it up and deal really shows your privilege and also that you have no understanding of the struggles that other people have to face on a daily basis.
For more condensed counterarguments, please see the “keep reading” section. And I will leave you with a quote that I wholeheartedly agree with from the founder of the popular group “All Things Broadway”
“Don’t record bootlegs....but if you do, please send it my way!!!!!!” -Eliyahu Kheel
“Ryan McCartan is fucking disgusting. He’s in his mid 20s dating a barely-legal girl.”
Ryan McCartan, 25
Samantha Fekete, 19 (18 when they started dating)
Age Difference: 6-7 years
—————
*same person*
“OH MY GOD TAYLOR TRENSCH AND BEN LEVI ROSS ARE GOALS! 😍😍”
Taylor Trensch, 29
Ben Levi Ross, 21
Age Difference: 8-9 years
•••••
“Wesley Taylor and Isaac Powell are honestly so adorable.”
Wesley Taylor, 32
Isaac Powell, 24
Age Difference: 8-9 years
—————
My point is all these people are in consenting relationships and are over the legal consenting age. It’s not really our business if there’s an age gap. Just because your reason for hating someone is debunked doesn’t mean you have to find some other reason to dislike them. In this example clearly the age gap was not the real problem for this person.

they’re in the middle of changing the signs at the neil simon theater.. why is this the funniest fucking thing i’ve ever seen
I don’t know the master, but I was given permission to post this!
There were a lot of changes to this song, especially in the beginning. I find it extremely interesting to listen to, since it’s personally my favorite song from the original, and hearing all of these changes really change the feel of it? I still absolutely love it, though.
Also, Jeremy taking a lot more of an active role in this song I feel is really telling? In the original, it felt as if it was a lot more of the Squip, but in this version Jeremy is singing a lot of the melody instead of the Squip. He’s obviously a lot more behind it?
Be More Chill - Preview Night 1
so the first preview night was amazing and this is just a list of some of the things that went down
• rich did not have to go that hard for halloween party but he did and it was beautiful
• ‘boyf riends’ “my moms appreciate that” MICHAEL HAS TWO MOMS
• christine’s “love” rainbow patch on her jacket
• “loser geek or whatever” is a true bop… def has more depth to jeremy
• george and gerard in the background of be more chill part 1 as punk (gerard) and fashion employee (george) and george staring at gerard’s ass and then them almost kissing
• the squip in those killer outfits and platform boots
• i’ve never been so happy to see people do the floss in my life
• george slipped during the pants song and almost kicked my friend in the front row in the face (they’re both okay)
• michael the trash monster
• bi rich hitting on michael at the hospital
• will freaking out after the show because it’s opening preview night (duh)
• stage door the guy who plays jake pointed out my rainbow shirt and shouted “rainbow power”
• free preview bmc hats lol
• the guys killin it with the fake boobs and wigs in smartphone hour
-
-
i cannot wait to see where the show goes from here :)
Be More chill first preview things
-During two player game Michael tried to kiss Jeremy after favorite person
- Rainbow patch! For Michael!
- HELLS GAY RICH he kisses an ensemble in the back during the mall
- WILL ROLAND IE BEAUTIFUL uh??
- THE SET US BEAUTIFUL AND ALOT LIKE HANSEN
- SQUIPS COSTUMES
- loser/geek/ whatever is amazing uh??
- Oh yeah my seatmate was an internet Friend by accident.
- JEREMY IS A LOT DARKER
- MICHAEL IS A LOT GAYER
- MICHAEL HAS TWO MOMS!
- So Will Roland without glasses is great
- Also George salazar in the act one finale is sad
- ACT TWO
- George slipped hard during pants on his socks
- Jeremy is too straight for his own good
- Michael freezes when asked if he loves Jeremy
- Brooke is amazing. Chloe and her aren’t villians. Fight me
- Also I think George kicked somebody’s face
- Woah pitiful children choreo
- Katlyn, George and Will all remembered me. I love them. Stan.
- Christine is under appreciated here. She’s adorable
- Hot pockets are still a thing
- Squip is evil. Per usual. A girl informed me he’s hot. I don’t think so.
- Also the new Jenna is amazing?? I love her. What a standout.
EDIT: that being said, the fandom needs to chill out at the door. You all shoved, screamed and clearly risked everybody’s safety. The person in front of me was dancing with the show and hugging her mom the whole time. That’s not okay. Please be respectful in the theatre.
BMC NYC stuff!!!
-Will R. as Jeremy is Really Cute and very good but is less outwardly anxious than Will C.
-There were additions / changes to lyrics in a lot of songs!! But most noticeable being Squip Song, More Than Survive Reprise, Pitiful Children, and The Play.
-Michael Mell canonically has 2 moms!! After they show their boyf riends backpacks, he laughs and says “My moms would be so proud.”
-Rather than black outfits, all of Jason Tam Squip’s outfits are pure white.
-The new song is right before intermission!! It replaces the end of Upgrade. It STARTS with “I already know what it’s like to be the loser.” AAAAAND it has a few parts where the melody sounds like Touching My Hand!!!
-Michael in the Bathroom Good.
-We actually get to see Rich get the gas out to start the fire!! And his Squip has a women’s voice.
-Smartphone Hour has a part where it shows a selfie of Jenna in front of the burning fire lmao.
-Okay, this wasn’t a script change thing, but during the Pants Song, George slipped in his socks and straight up fell on his ass.
-They played into Jake being sad about his parents a lot more which I really appreciated.
-Christine’s Squip was changed to Ruth Bader Ginsburg!!
-Rich like, canonically likes Michael like this is a thing. In the hospital, after he asks if Michael is Jeremy’s boyfriend, he asks if he’s single. Then, later when they’re dancing in Voices in my Head, he reaches for Michael’s hand and holds it for a few seconds before Michael kinda swats it away.

Something Rotten Song from Previews
I have a bootleg of Something Rotten than I have watched before and I know is from previews (also knew it was from previews before I watched it), but I was just skimming it again and there was a song in it that I legit do not remember at all. I don’t know the actual title of it, but I would assume it’s called “The First Time”
I stalk George’s Instagram for this stuff
“Forget how long it’s been..”
hey uh i found this clip so if ya use it please just credit me
