a lot of people dont care about insect biomass collapse bc when they hear we are losing 2.5% of the insect biomass per year they just imagine the cockroach and housefly population decreasing by that much. they dont realize those are among the only ones that will remain unbothered
you can make a little oasis right where you are, and it matters
every year of restoring native plants I see a great increase in the insect populations, and loads of new insects i never saw before (all of them harmless--the insects that are harmful or parasitic on humans are the main ones being unaffected by the decrease in insect populations)
(a large part of) the problem is Plant Sameness. we must restore plant diversity
thk print to complete the set. Fun with halos, yay...

thinking about the emotional aspects of fictional robots slonking it sloppy style, absolutely having a normal one, reading myself for filth at 3pm on a monday
i think the emotional core, the heart, the sauce, of good robotfucking stories & art for me is like. my body is unfamiliar and strange (to me, to you, to this purpose). can you be cool about that? can you touch me, not just with lust or affection or even skill, but with curiosity, creativity, attention?
can you romanticize the strange ways i think, sense, act? can you sexualize the odd, artificial, utilitarian parts of my form?
will you be deliberate and thoughtful for this experience? will you value that over sentiments about being “natural” or “instinctual”?
i am very tough in some ways, and very delicate in others. can you see me as a complex system, and hold all of my parts in regard?
if i let you in, will you be good to me. me specifically. strange, singular me.
inexplicability/unknowability in art is not often understood as an intentional artistic decision, let alone respected as one. I'd almost call it entitlement on the part of audience, but it's not even that, really. it's a complete inability to ask - was this ever meant to be understood in full? is there a reason why it wouldn't be? is it uncomfortable to think about? maybe it is supposed to be uncomfortable to think about.
there is a discomfort often present when you don't understand everything about a piece of art and i feel like many audiences are eager to smooth it over & fill in the gaps with their own understanding so they don't feel uncertain about it. but sitting with that discomfort is so important to interpreting art! even with works that DON'T have an intentional sense of preserving mystery, you just aren't going to understand a piece of art 100% even if you want to. figure out why you don't understand it. think on it. let that sense inform part of the art for you. it will give you a much more rounded approach to media criticism!
*while sewing*: you are a fabric. you can stay a fabric. you do not yearn to return to being string.
*while spinning*: you are a thread. you can stay a thread. you do not yarn to return to being fluff.
*while embroidering*: you are a thread on a needle. you can just exist as thread on a needle. you do knot yearn to become a tangle.
*while turning wood* you are timber on a lathe. You can stay as timber on a lathe. You do not yearn to become a live hand grenade.

as a transfem, neurodivergent artist ill probably get a lot of backlash for this but im opening a cosmic gate and unleashing a horde of terrible worm-like beasts and their hunger will soon consume the entire galaxy
hayyyy so your fic "oh queen of venus, come within" has been living in my brain rent free ever since you published it. for several reasons, but i gotta narrow it down for an ask.
i adore wireplay and desperately want to write a piece that's anywhere close to this level of understanding of robots. how did you go about doing research for this? what was the textbook you used, is there anything you'd recommend for beginner robotics learners who can't afford a degree? are there inaccuracies you see in other depictions of wireplay that irk you? do you have any advice in general for writing about the physical traits of robots?
haven't seen you post for a while but i hope you're doin alright. godspeed, u funky objectum writer, ily o7
check out this post for some general info, lot of links in there but in summary: Electrical Motor Controls for Integrated Systems by Gary Rockis and Glen A. Mazur (isbn 0826912265) is beginner accessible as far as information goes
the pet peeve i have with a lot of robot writing in terms of body is that it doesn't balance analogy, specbio, and non-expositional description especially when it comes to sapient machines created in a human context. an arm's always gonna be an arm in casual language* (analogy), but if a machine's damaged its arm wouldn't be fixed in the same way. hypothetically, how would one go about repairing it? what problems would arise? (specbio) and in the same hypothetical, how would the machine treat this development and subsequent solution? (show, don't tell). *i think a lot about trans bodies and the language used with them when i write machinery. you can grope someone's tits even if they're flat chested. you can suck someone's dick even if they have a clit. etc etc. your body is what you define it as!
the bottom line: get more perverted about the way machines work and work outward from there rather than simply trying to make everything 1:1 with human sexual experience. you may find lazeecomet's posts about wireplay and industrial robot programming interesting as a starter. explore the weaknesses and quirks of machines themselves, think about how a strap-on and other power dynamics are still psychologically erotic. think about jacking off with medication or chronic pain or any other disabling factor and the ways sex is made accessible or differs from the norm. godspeed!
