i just HATE when i like a post and realize it’s for a fandom im not in so i unheart it and go “few, good thing i didn’t let that slide in, might’ve put a bunch of fan content on my fyp that i wont understand!!!” and then. i refresh .

yeah so i asked myself that and it turns out that in this case the author is usually trying to convey “i hate women”

and it’s crazy because that wasn’t even what my post was about. this one is actually completely about the way fandom interacts with spoken misogyny in fiction, by regularly and extensively conflating it with repressed queerness and/or using (headcanoned) queerness as a tool to justify and excuse the overt textual misogyny. i’m not even talking about WHY the writers chose to make this guy suck about women specifically, i’m just pissed off because i keep watching “omg so gay” tv shows and movies as recommended by other queer people and it turns out the “gayness” is in fact just a man hating women

"snuggle your cat" they say. "Isn't it cute that she wants to cuddle with you" they say. "cat warm fluffy good for snuggle" they say. but you know what they never warn you about? knives in your boobs

Yep! Thats right! The character whos whole story arc involves feeling stuck in place, unable to change their fate or even act for themselves transitioned off screen before the narrative began. Youre so good at this

i have a little fondness for stupid deltarune theories that revolve around the Ultimate True Secret Evil Of FRIEND because my groupchat has a running injoke of labeling any innocuous photo of a cat as "the evil image friend plots to end your existence" and y'know it really helps to not be annoyed by those theories if I just think of them as the equivalent of calling my kitty cat evil whenever she knocks something off my desk

what's the deal with meta posts in a ton of fandoms these days being like "ACTUALLY the character never had [character flaw that they spend their entire arc overcoming.] they've ALWAYS had [positive trait that comes up during their character development.]" it's such a weird form of defensiveness against the idea that your favorite not only could have flaws but that they were ever flawed in the first place

not to mention if it's just a flaw that a character doesn't really get over. just an absolute deluge of posts about how they don't actually have the flaw that the text pretty obviously points out in the narrative. in fact you're wrong and media illiterate and possibly bigoted for pointing out when the character exhibits said flaw

it's such bs that the whole guilt-ridden stoic self-sacrificing martyr thing doesn't work outside of fiction. repressing all your emotions and neglecting your physical wellbeing should make you god's most tragically beautiful morally unassailable little soldier of righteousness but all it does is give you bad skin and gastrointestinal problems
