every year small towns and indigenous communities across canada are burnt to nothing by horrific wildfires and americans go on the internet to complain about it and blame us bc the smoke has spread to their state. i’m so tired.

go yell at mark carney or your own local politicians about climate change and urge them to do more to stop it. the namaygoosisagagun first nation had their community destroyed today. you can find a link to donate to them here. donate to your local food bank. go to the beach next week when the smoke clears and you don’t have to think about it anymore while the people who’s lives have been destroyed will have to pick up the pieces and try to move forward when we are already in a huge cost of living crisis across the country.

and nnno we don't call it "winter" when it's december even though we're TECHNICALLY in the northern hemisphere. because it is 35+ degrees during december and 35+ degrees during july and 35+ degrees every other time of the year as well. so it doesn't really make sense to reference the typical northern/southern seasons when you live right on the equator!

we DO reference seasons as a CONCEPT but it wasn't summer/autumn/winter/spring. it was wet season/dry season. that's it.

Hey. If people aren't aware, Microsoft admitted they know who you and where you are at all times and will give your info to the police.

They have a Global Device Identifier (GDID) Tracker that functions as a fingerprint for your PC that can surpass VPNs, proxy servers and countries. Although it can't survive a clean reinstall of Windows (it can survive updates), because Microsoft forces you to go to the internet and log in into a Microsoft account, they will be able to get to you.

Microsoft kept it secret and it was only found out when the FBI tracked a hacker thanks to the information Microsoft gave them.

You should be paying attention to this, and possibly consider moving away from Windows. If a government, especially the US government, doesn't like you for some reason, this could be seriously concerning.

This article specifically notes:

For journalism, activism, or domestic abuse situations, skip Windows and use Linux routed through Tor instead of a commercial VPN. A GDID doesn’t care which VPN you use, only that it’s still the same Windows installation.

GDID is the persistent Windows ID that helped FBI trace a Scattered Spider hacker despite VPNs. Here's how it works and how to limit it.

What has researchers uneasy is everything else the case reveals. Costin Raiu, a well-known malware researcher, asked on the Three Buddy Problem podcast how much of this exists on other platforms, and whether it is linked more permanently to hardware. Matthew Hickey, another security researcher, called Windows “surveillance software”.

Two things back that up:

There’s no consent screen. A GDID gets assigned when you sign into a Microsoft Account. Apple’s advertising identifier needs an App Tracking Transparency prompt and a visible reset; Android’s works the same way. GDID has neither, and a Windows reinstall only gets you a new number Microsoft can still get back to the same account.

Then there’s activation. Massgrave, the group behind Microsoft Activation Scripts, notes that Windows setup sends hardware info to Microsoft and gets identifiers back, the same tokens later used for Store access and licensing: “It’s impossible to prevent Windows from getting a GDID without breaking activation and UWP app[s].” Anyone who lost a license after swapping a motherboard has already met a smaller version of this.

we're lowkey sleeping over rexanidala because it would significantly improve the anidala dynamic in some aspects

.1- Rex being a soldier (and basically a slave) would understand Anakin in ways Padmé can't, but Rex is better at communicating so he would be able to explain Padmé some of this

2- Rex it's considerable more chill, he could be like a buffer to anidala explosive chemical reaction. Particularly would be good for Padme so she doesn't have to deal alone with Anakin's bullshit.

3- Them having to deal and navigate the power imbalance. Tasty.

4- It would do good for Anakin to come more to terms with his jealousy and possesiveness, learning love can be shared.

5- Rex could spend significantly more time with Anakin so he doesn't feel as lonely, they could both talk about what they like about Padme as well.

6- Padme and Anakin are intense freaks, so they would love to plan how to surprise and spoil their husband.

7- more healthy. Fluffy. Which isn't to say I don't love fucked up stuff, but when craving the fluff, rexanidala is right there.

Can you even imagine the sheer amount of existential crisis that Leeroy Mateo would go through if he found out that some dilapidated copy of himself was functionally an aspiring mass-murderer (except the ‘murder’ in question is in some ways EVEN WORSE because it takes prolonged, drawn out psychological torment instead of the relatively-easy-and-sometimes-impulsive action of stabbing someone) over being thrust into … *checks notes* a cartoon world?

Like imagine everyone Abstracts in a slightly different series of events, and Caine, so crazed at the lonliness, brute-forces a way to get out of the computer after beavering and beavering at the problem.

He sends a record of everything that happened to all the real-world humans.

(this can be in a malicious way, like “you people all drove me to despair for years, choke on the knowledge of this and what you did to each other” OR it can be a “please, please tell me what I did wrong” way)

Leeroy Mateo only skims the body of the message and opens these video files and at first doesn’t understand what he’s seeing at all. Is this a prank? Some sort of phishing scheme?

And then he starts watching this purple rabbit.

Why does it have eerily similar mannerisms as he does.

Why the f%#k does it say stuff that’s exactly the type of stuff his pre-homeless self would say?

Has someone been stalking him?

Why does it halfway look like the colorful version of a Slenderman?

Has he been watching too many creepypastas?

This goes on for several days

It’s 2 AM, he’s sleepy and tired and drifting in and out of reality, but he’s riveted.

He starts getting triggered

Reliving the panic of sprinting out of his house

Is this somehow one of those hypnosis videos in the urban legends that are designed to make you go insane?

He goes back into the body of the message. It seems just as improbable as the videos.

Someone is messing with him.

But who?

He’s a nobody.

Doesn’t have any enemies.

And then. A boomer shows up on his doorstep. A haunted look in his eyes.

“Oh my god I’m so sorry. I know this is gonna sound bad, but I tracked you with my skills in data management. I think I may have broken a law or two to get here. But I needed to know if you were ok. No kid should have to process this.”

“I’m twenty-two,” he spits defensively, trying to act tough, this nerd is weasely and skinny and not intimidating at all but he’s so on edge he’s still on the verge of freaking out anyway.

Grant puts his head in his hands. Takes a breath. “Look I don’t even know what to say now that I’m here. I should’ve like … practiced or something? I’m sure everyone else is blindsided too, but you were the top priority to get to.”

He simply stands there. Stares at the stranger on his doorstep.

“You don’t have any reason to trust me or to confide to me. But, in case you need someone to talk to. Or I can put you in touch with the other ki-,” he trips up, “the others, I mean.”

He hands him a business card.

“Maybe I should’ve prioritized locating Caine. I have no idea what the AI is capable of now that it seems it’s gone through more than two decades of psychological suffering. But, I guess my fatherly instincts just kicked in when I knew there was a human ki- young person struggling out there somewhere. If you see me in the news, it’ll be because I didn’t cover my tracks well enough to not get caught locating you, or because some FBI goon snatched me up to consult on how to deal with the ‘AI threat.’” He pauses. “I am so, so sorry. This is all my fault.”
