Welcome to my ✨500 followers✨ post about my reimagining of Mythosaur Force gifts!
To start this off I’m gonna do a quick crash corse on my take on soul structures in the Star Wars Universe (it’s relevant)
Ok so average persons soul consists of three main parts: core, body(energy), and membrane. Soul membranes contain the body of the soul, but is functionally "porous" allowing excess energy to permeate the surrounding of the individual called soul output. Soul output fluctuates from person to person, stronger output resulting in a Brighter Soul. It is also left behind on things a person interacts with and is the basis for things like force echos.
Midichlorians cause the membrane to thin, allowing more energy to escape, but also doubles in strengthening and even enlarging the core. Jedi typically have a near non functional barrier meaning their soul energy and output can therefore interact directly with the force and its energy. A Jedi’s ability to move things with the force involves them encasing an item in their soul energy and sinking it into the object to be able to direct it at a molecular level.
I don’t really see the dark side of the force as evil, simply the parallel to what the light side of the force does, ei: life/death, growth/destruction, blah blah, that kind of things. Therefor I do not actually view Siths as actually conduits of the dark side of the force and instead have damaged the soul directly so instead of a luminous star, they’ve imploded inward like a black hole, eating and pulling in energy to feed a festering wound. Instead I think the Witches of Dathomir and their death magic to be closer to a true opposite balance to the life force of the Jedi.
Now Mythosaurs I’ve constructed a lot of their force gifts to work as a true neutral aspect of the force. Functioning more in the living force then other aspects (not that they cant) a mytho’s soul is constructed of a small but extremely dense core with a thick, non-porous membrane. I’m a really big fan of when beskar is force wicking and blocks most force users from being able to "see", functioning as a rock in a river, forcing the rush of energy to flow around and over, not though it. A mytho’s soul functions the same, (which makes sense when you consider the fact I’ve also put beskar in their bones lol)
The thick membrane means that Jedi cant "see" Mythosaurs, mealy sense the displacement of energy they cause when they reach out. Mytho’s reach out with what I’ve dubbed "whiskers", long tendrils of their souls that feel out into their surroundings much like a catfish whisker in water. Whiskers leave little tunnels in the force, allowing better flow of energy in areas where they dwell for long periods of time. Causing mythosaur nests to after form force nexuses, energy naturally welling up in the cleared space and flowing out though the channels carved though space.
On top of that stands of the membrane’s shed naturally over time leaving silk like threads behind. A Jedi walking though them might feel like thier very soul has walked though a spider web lol. Midichlorians like to feed on these threads, and it’s why the living waters of Mand’alor came to exist. Mythosaur dens dating back thousands and thousands of years where wild non soul attached midichlorians have made their homes in the life wells of water. It’s also why there’s such important to tempering beskar in the waters. It eats away at any soul energy left in the metal leaving it pure and force wicking.
Now that the souls have been covered onto the actual gifts one might encounter from a mythosaur!
Mythosaurs cant move things like their Jedi counterparts. Instead they perceive things on a much deeper level than them. The universe shines bright to a Jedi but it absolutely sings to a mythosaur. The frequency they see and hear the force at enhances most base senses for them.
Empaths are common among mytho’s, emotions most often registered in vibration and taste, though the strength of these sensation varies.
Pyschometry is a gift more commonly found in mythosaurs than their Jedi counterparts. And before anybody goes "hey that’s a cosmic side of the force gift" hush I do what I want. Mythosaurs ability to touch things more solidly in the force allows them to resonate with items and hear the song of it! This gift in particular can be used with beskar’gam letting a mytho’s hear the life song story of the Mandalorian who wears said armor. It’s this that assists in comparability when forming a Battle Bond when a mytho’s chooses their Mandalorian rider.
Battle Bonds are a unique type of bond mythosaurs form. Unlike a bond between Jedi when gossamer threads of light tether and intertwine Jedi soul energies together a mythosaur instead attaches directly to the core or the soul of their Battle Bond. This allows a mytho’s to feed energy directly to their bonded, resulting in quicker reaction times, boosts in preexisting force gifts, and in some cases extension of their bonded natural life span.
Mythosaurs with their natural affinity for blocking Midichlorians also means they can block most force attacks/interactions Jedi do. Shielding items from movement, deflecting force pushes, and shielding others from view.
A battle gift mythosaurs have is to "cast a net" as I call it. Essentially they toss out a large web of whiskers coating the surrounding area in movement and sound sensitive visibility. The range and size of the net depends on the strength of the mythosaur, but can be enhanced and cast to larger areas using the strength of a battle bond, anchoring tendrils to their armor and allowing for farther reaches without straining their energy. This is particularly useful in battle to avoid stepping on your much smaller companions.
Now we know shapeshifters exist, Shi’idos and Clawdites are found in the assistant and spies circles due to their gifts as changelings.
Mythosaurs are also gifted in this ability. How else should they get anything done or travel if they fancy hits them. It’s impractical to go on a vacation of you cant fit in a ship, ya know? There’s some perks and drawbacks backs to this gift however. One does not simply go from being a ginormous murder horse lizard thing to a small humanoid without having to deal with some drawbacks.
Here I’ve depicted just the change in how the soul itself it’s within the body vessel for a mythos. When in their true form the soul sits nicely within the body, whiskers permeate the surrounding area and reach out with more directed intent. However when they become small and humanoid, it is usually only the small, dense core that resides in the body itself. There’s a MUCH less tact and control of the movement of a mytho’s soul and whiskers when they exist like this. On top of that the energy output that is required to work and move their large natural bodies doesn’t actually change when they get small. This often results in some discrepancies in personalities between a mythos in their true form vrs when small. (Kinda like when your friend forgets to take their very strong dose of adhd meds)
This is where the important of a Battle Bond or even a Mythos in beskar’gam comes into play. All those free flowing whiskers, being pushed around on the natural currents of energy around you and generally just having to feel everything and everyone can be quite overwhelming. But those whiskers stick and hold onto beskar quite well. Allowing them to anchor and stay mentally closer to the body instead of drifting away.
Holding a mytho’s attention will also direct those whiskers at you. So direct eye contact and the full attention of a mythosaur when they’re small still makes one feel like there’s a large scary monster baring down on you.
It should be noted force collars have extremely detrimental effects on a mythosaur. Particularly if collared in their small form. It effectively cuts off the whiskers of a mythosaur causing soul wounds that can cause mental instability wile those wound heal. Long term wear traps energy build up inside the small body making a mytho’s a ticking time bomb. Energy builds up, forcing the body to find other outlets essentially burning them up from the inside out. When removed after long term the whiskers are often atrophied and unresponsive. Mythosaurs are extremely sensitive and physically/mentally compromised wile healing up after long term force suppression like that.
Welp that’s all for now folks. Mythosaur force gifts are pretty much just enhanced senses, force negation, shapeshifting, empathy, pyschometry, and the ability to boost others force gifts though Battle bonds. I hope you guys enjoyed my ramblings and doodles!
