How did your great grandpa stepping on a landmine protect this country

It’s so nuts to me that people want to twist kneeling for the anthem into disrespect of soldiers when black people disproportionately serve in the armed forces and have more respect for our military than most white people. The concerns are legitimate and the method of protest is beautiful and brave and respectful of our country. The people who aren’t being respectful are the people who refuse to give a crap about the tragedy and injustice of too many young innocent black bodies gunned down in the streets by police officers who likely won’t even be charged for the murders they commit.

My grandpa went to prison rather than fight in a war in which he didn’t believe. I’m not a pacifists personally, but I’m proud of his resolve, and respect him for it.

I served so ANYONE could stand, take a knee, or walk away. It’s called freedom, humans. Freedom to do any goddamn peaceful thing you choose. Be kind to one another.
