I think no matter which way you slice it petscop is a very trans-coded series regardless of what goes on, because the theme of rebirth is a major part of the entire story. The person you are isn't the same person as you were back then. Sometimes, trauma and grief can change us into different people. There's a terrifying quality about how easily technology can preserve the past, essentially "raising the dead" of people and places that don't exist anymore. And one of the most powerful things you can do in spite of all the trauma and fear is to decide for yourself who you turn into.

It's always been sinister to me. Regardless of how you interpret the meaning behind the petscop plotline, her response like this to Care going missing/changing/experiencing something terrible happening is not just dismissive, but outright wrong.
