The coast of Ploumanac'h in Brittany, France is full of huge red granite rocks. I put my stretchy yoga and monkey moves into practice and ended up in this spot inbetween the rocks. It looks a bit surreal and it's hard to grasp the size of these rocks but that's what I like here. The 3 minute exposure turned the gap where the sea water comes splashing up into a smooth puddle for that nice and calm vibe. Sunset in France. The last bit of light hits the chalk rock needle in Étretat, France. It may look like a drone shot but it was actually shot from the cliffs' edge which runs along the coast for quite a few miles. It took me a while to get there, as google tried to guide me straight across a golf course on top of the cliffs. Access denied. Awesome golf spot, though. I got there late anyway, so any shot would be a bonus. I went back before sunrise the next morning and also sunset in the afternoon and this is hot it looks. Earlier this year, I found myself in Brittany again (that'd be the region in France, you dirty (wo)man). My French is almost on par with my Japanese but when I hear the local folks speak their Brezhoneg dialect, I'm lost right after the first syllable. Quite the agony. Anyway, judging from this image, you may agree they have a beautiful coast line. This is a 3 minute exposure of the light house (phare de Men Ruz) on the huge granite rocks of Ploumanac'h. The first light house here dates back to 1860 but ze Germans bombed it in '44 so they built a new one in '46, the one you see here. It's still active. Last year late September after I hosted my photography workshop in the Swiss Alps, I went to the Dolomites in Italy. It's pretty much landscape photography heaven there. This right here is the last light the day hitting the mountain top of Monte Paterno, just a few kilometers east from the famous three peaks of Tre Cime di Lavaredo. It was definitely one of the most beautiful hikes I did and the reward of the endeavour came in the form of a beautiful sunset, seen from a cave which was used in the first world war as the front line between the Italian and Austro-Hungarian army ran through the Dolomites. From this location, soldiers could see anyhing coming their way from miles away. One can only imagine what a terrible ordeal it must have been. Throwback to Mongolia. This is a taditional game that goes back many many years. Farily simple concept: Switch your horse to full-speed-crazy-gallop-mode, hang on the side and pick up a piece of cloth from the ground. If it wasn't for the world's current situation, I'd probably be in Bali again by now. It's a bit of a cold comfort looking at last year's images but it brings back good memories. Last year December I hosted a photography safari in the Dubai desert. You´d expect a dead place, maybe your typical camel but there´s a lot more life than meets the eye. For many rabbits, wild cats, mice, hedgehogs, this desert is their home. Probably one of the most majestic animals here is the Arabian oryx, a desert antilope. Right around sunset, we saw a small herd slowly on their way to somewhere. One of them had gone astray and walked up a dune and totally made me happy with this classic minimalistic silhouette safari shot. On a sidenote: There's a ton of companies out there offering desert tours which include dune bashing with big trucks and completely destroying nature. I'm sure it's fun, but on such a large scale, it's not. It's disrupting all the ecosystems and wildlife, including this beautiful Oryx. @platinumheritage is a sustainable tourism company incorporating 3 sustainabilty pillars; social, and environmental. They donate generoulsy to nature conservation and education, and are the only (!) company with a fully solar powered camp. It may be a bit more expensive but the experience is worth it in every sense, so I'm glad I teamed up with them. I'm no saint but I'm trying my best to think about these things when deciding where my money goes. Clouds and mountains are a great combo. Waking up and seeing the fog made me eager to shoot so I was a happy camper driving up the mountains enjoying these moody views. I remember stopping the car after almost every corner as the view changed every second with these conditions so it was both a joy and a challenge to shoot. Very nice layering here with the forest, the rocks and the clouds. Driving around in the Greek mountains, I found myself in some foggy weather on this piece of road. It already looked pretty cool from the car with those lamp post lit up and fading away so I figured it'd be a cool shot with the weathered road sign and some light trails. I turned around, parked the car out of sight and set up my camera. I got some shots with car lights but that didn't really cut it so I had to wait for a truck to pass by. That forever and it started to rain so I gave myself a few more mintues and then right before I wanted to pack up, I could hear a big engine sound coming from the far distance. Here's some architecture for you today. This was last year at the Grand Mosque in Abu Dhabi. The 2nd biggest mosque in the world, I believe, and simply a stunning piece of design and construction with loads of attention to detail. All the geometric shapes, patterns and ornaments are just baffling. And every surface is shiny and clean, like they took the entire thing right out of the pacakge. There's a couple more pics which I'll share later. I could've spent a few more days here. Shot with a very wide angle lens (16mm) which gives it that warped look. After seeing the movie 'In Bruges' some years ago, I've always wanted to know what all the fuzz was about. Also, some 3 thousand years ago, my parents went here for their honeymoon. So, recently on my way to France, I stopped for half a day in this picturesque town in Belgium. This very spot looked nice so I set up my camera, waited for something interesting to happen and along came a canal touring floating boaty unit, creating a nice color trail through this long exposure image.
