Now I already have a line of paintings I wanna do this year but I also really wanna work more on clouds and smoke because of a painting I've had in mind for quite a while now but don't yet have the skills to pull off.
So for days where I don't wanna work on either I figured why not ask tumblr for painting ideas.
Obviously I won't end up doing every suggestion as dysfunctions gonna executive and everything. But I figure having some will help in my goal on days where I wanna paint but don't know ehat to.
Having a person attatched to the suggestion might help motivate me too.
Anyway I'll try to keep tumblr updated on my completion.

A recreation of The Nightmare by Henry Fuseli. I love this painting for more than just its creepy imagery and lighting. It represents to me every mysterious phenomenon throughout humankindās development that were explained through supernatural means. As we discover more about the world and ourselves, those supernatural constructs fall over and over again.
Man I've been balloon twisting for 20 years and every time I see balloon art like this I just imagine how long this would take. Let alone the amount of balloons.
My memory of The Birdcage (1996) is always that it's more dated and more difficult to watch than it actually is. You hear "drag-themed comedy from the 90s based on a musical from the 80s based on a play from the 70s" and you brace yourself just a little, right? But the film has a strong gay perspective, so the fruity fag jokes mostly come off as warmly affectionate. There is a surprising amount of poignancy in Robin Williams' portrayal of Armand, grudgingly agreeing to his beloved son's request that he go back into the closet for an evening ("do me a favor and don't talk to me for a while"). The drag club's staff attempting to redecorate the apartment with stuff straight people might like (a taxidermy moose head, an enormous crucifix, and Playboy magazine) is extremely funny. Albert's histrionics are a point of tension because he does often come off as a stereotypically pathetic/comic figure, but towards the end of the movie he makes it very clear that he's aware of how people see him, and asserts that trying to copy a stoic masculinity he doesn't possess for the sake of social approval would be more pathetic. In the 1983 musical adaptation, they give "Albert" (Albin) the only good song in the whole show, "I Am What I Am", which Gloria Gaynor covered to the delight of gays everywhere. Apparently Nathan Lane wasn't (publicly) out yet in 1996, which is amazing because it means that at one point in this movie you're watching a gay man playing a straight man playing a gay man playing a straight man, in a movie about how it's important to be yourself, an absurdity that does seem to encapsulate the state of gay America in the 90s.
I'm seeing a couple of posts circulating about the gay 90s and this movie. The above is a very good summary, and I think it's worth adding a few other points.
This movie got made because Robin Williams said yes to it (and it's important that Gene Hackman did as well). Williams in the 90s was a mega-star of a type that's not present in the current media environment (maybe Tom Cruise, but I personally think that's echo from his salad days). Even his flops made money on the back end in the video rental market, which also doesn't exist anymore (streaming is different). Hackman was on the other side of his A-list career but still Hollywood nobility if not full royalty.
Playing gay was considered career suicide in the 90s. There had been a number of actors who put lie to that belief stretching back decades, but this was Williams and Hackman (yes, being on screen next to a gay character was enough to get you blacklisted) saying "screw that" and doing it anyway.
Being gay and out was career suicide in the 90s.
Nathan Lane had a really nice gig going for himself. The Lion King put him into the Disney rep company with people like Williams, Bette Midler, and Whoopie Goldberg (check their IMBD list from the 90s--they were making bank at Disney).
Lane didn't come out until several years later (nice summary: https://deadline.com/2024/06/nathan-lane-robin-williams-advice-coming-out-birdcage-1235975010/).
I don't want to imply that this was a Sorkinized moment where everything changed because of one thing, but this was a very important movie that caused real movement in the needle on queer acceptance.
It also proved that there was a market for films with gay characters, which had the knock-on effect of gay filmmakers being able to find distributors of their gay-themed films. Which meant that more people than ever (queer and non-queer) got to see representation on-screen.
Kid at work came over and sat next to me. And at first they were just asking a lot of questions that were fairly typical for a little kid but then put of nowhere, and I mean no where cuz I dont know if they were talking about the other kids, the adults, or the beaver statue infront of us, but this kid said,
"They're very hard workers... but they aren't very good at anything."

The Billingsley family bought the Middle Ground Lighthouse from the Coast Guard for 2005 for $31,000. Aside from the deterioration they say it stunk to high heavens from birds making it their rookery.
The fixer-upper was no problem for this couple and their two college-aged sons. They happen to be a family of engineers.
It was a wreck, having been abandoned since 1955. But, with the help of other family and friends, it took them 3yrs. to restore, and now it's for sale, fully furnished. Offers should be in the $350k to $450k range. (Taking offers until July 4th). They still love it, but, now that the sons have moved out of state, they feel it's time to move on. And, now in their 70s, it's hard to climb the ladders and maintain.)
BEFORE & AFTER. Zillow wouldn't take the listing, so it has its own website. It will accommodate 10, but the most that they hosted was 45. Here are some before & after photos of the property. Of course, it's only accessible by boat. It's in Chesapeake Bay, Newport News, VA.
I wouldn't even know where to begin.
Yikes! Look at the before.
The porthole room only had a hole.
Now, it accommodates a lot of family & friends.
And, even has a cool mural.
The kitchen was basically non-existent.
It's pretty roomy and functional now.
It accommodates a ton of people. Imagine Thanksgiving here?
The bedrooms were in bad shape, too.
They were kind of creepy.
But, now they're cheerful and bright.
The deck.
This must be the bathroom door.
There's also a toilet under the stairs in the kitchen.
The cellar.
Looks like they keep the equipment down here.
And, finally, the lantern room. The Coast Guard has access to this.
Beautiful new lantern.
The owners said it's a fun place.
Historic Middle Ground Lighthouse, a fully restored private lighthouse in Virginiaās Chesapeake Bay. A rare, one-of-a-kind waterfront proper
ok so, I approached my local library with a proposal to donate a mural as a way to A: build portfolio/gain practical experience and B: give back to a beloved public institution. The director was very enthusiastic about it and i've been working on it since the beginning of March. Come with me as I endeavor to paint what is in all honesty an excessive amount of birds
I wanted the birds to look like they were actually in the space so first thing after doing the draft was to do a lighting study
after that I covered the walls in letters in lieu of a projector/vr headset bc i have neither of those :) Then i take a picture of the section of wall and superimpose the lineart over top of it so I can pencil in the lines
et voila
and that was a whole week on it's own so next comes the paintin' >:)
my chains are broken i am FREE. although i did have a great deal of fun with this, the barring on the wings itself took me like four days and i am READY to move on
this was a week and a half of continuous work so please excuse me for getting a little emotional in the bg š
BIRD NUMBER 10!!! The Male Mallard Duck, Anas platyrhynchos
the male and female ones are gonna be posted separately bc they're taking a lot longer lol but yea! super happy i was able to capture the iridescent green of the head, i found metallic green and blue paint at a craft store that really made his head POP. it looks better in person i promise
ALSO!! As this is the 10th one, BIG announcement. The end is in sight!!!!! I plan to finish within the next 3 weeks and there will be a small dedication ceremony/ unveiling happening at the library to commemorate its completion on the 16th of May. If you live in the Western New York region and want to check it out for yourself shoot me a dm!
Also thank you everyone for your kind words and support throughout this whole process, it's been a genuine treat thinking there are potentially thousands of you out there cheering me on while I paint this š„¹
we're movin right along with bird numero 11!! The lady Mallard!! Anas platyrhyncos
the 16th is looming in the distance so i'm trying to get thru these as quickly as i can so i can have as much time for the GBH as possible. i still need to do the names next to all of them so i've got about a week and a half to finish everything which is GREAT because i have adhd and nothing gets my ass in gear like a fuckin deadline, let me tell you
power couple that they are, here's bird number 12 and 13,
the Northern Cardinals, Cardinalis cardinalis
and NOW that they are complete, ITS GO TIME, in the next five days (library's closed for mother's day šš) i need to have the GBH fully rendered, the names of the birds vectored, weeded, masked, applied to the wall, and then painted, plus additional cattails throughout. I may be able to get away with just getting the GBH done in time for the unveiling and then just have the names and cattails added later, but i'm gonna really try to get it all done in time. BUT, i have a plan. Part of why i take so long on these is because i really am just figuring it out as I do it lmao. there have been many a time where i am sitting on top of the ladder googling "how to paint birds" but I think if i take the time tomorro to do all that figuring out how to approach it beforehand, this will go a lot faster. I may also recruit some of my artist friends to help with the placing of the names... hrmm we'll see.
Anyways, shout out to the librarian who tracked down exactly the thing i needed so i could figure out where to place the highlights in my birds eyes, ur the real mvp
thank you to everyone who reached out or got excited about this project, it genuinely gave me the fuel i needed to keep going. In total, the 480+ total hrs it took me to cover this wall pales in comparison to how long its expected to spend on there, hopefully imparting a sense of beauty and love for the natural world to the next generation and here's hoping i'm only getting started with these.
ok so this is another long shot but a few years ago there was a twitter post (in japanese i think?) that had measurememts for how to make this book stand thing out of cardboard that you could use to double up books and use up more space on shelves
back then i made a bunch of these but by now i lost the pic and dont know how to find the original post anymore
if it comes down to it i can just take one apart and get the measurements from there but i would be very grateful if anyone happens to have the original post or something similar??
don't mind how long it's been since i made this post, anyway i realized that i don't even need to take one apart to get the measurements when i can literally just unfold it and refold it /FACEPALM
so anyway here is the diagram for anyone else who is interested!!
this requires pretty big carboard pieces, if you have a really big box or something you can make it from one piece, but if you don't, you can also just make each of the pieces individually and then tape them together
and then in the end you put it together like this!!
and then when you make a bunch you can put them all next to each other and stack your books like crazy
EVERYONE START GETTING MORE USE OUT OF YOUR SPACE NOW!!!!

I cant even begin to imagine how Rocky could even being to understand that humans have sight.
Some Eridian biologist somewhere: What do you mean that humans have specialised light sensing organs that adapted to perceive a section of the electromagnetic radiation spectrum? And they can do "see" to the changes speed and direction of the radiation, after it hits an object? And they have 2 on them so they can use echolocation to percive depth, shape and texture with the radiation?
Honestly trying to understand echolocation as a human would be weird but not impossible because we can tell distance and direction of sound, but to a creature that doesn't even have a basic "light yes/ light no" light sensing organ, this must sound insane.
Wait! No it's worse than insane! I just remembered that they know nothing about radiation! That's so much worse!
screaming, crying, throwing up, as I force myself to write a story i'm very passionate about and love writing and have no obligation to write except that i want to

Thereās a college in my city that has a rumor that thereās a secret basement below the known basement that can only be accessed via some hidden stairs scattered around the school or by pressing a secret number sequence in some of the elevators. The staff at the school are super annoyed by this and have no idea where this rumor started.
But I know. I think it was me.
In my defense I never intended to start a rumor. Many years ago I worked as a cleaner at the school and one evening I had to transport one of those big floor washing machines from the basement to the second level via the elevator. When the doors opened a very confused looking man stood inside. He was one of those slicked back gym-bro IT guys and made no movement to get out. The elevator wouldnāt fit him, me and the machine so I asked āWhere are you going? Up or down?ā
He gave me a smug shit-eating grin and said āDown?ā in a mocking tone.
It took me a second to realize that of course he wasnāt going down, we were in the basement, but his look and tone annoyed me so much I refused to admit I misspoke and instead said āYeah, down. I donāt know if youāre going to the second basementā
His smile disappeared āThereās a second basement?ā
āYeah but it sounds like you donāt have access to it so I guess youāre going up? Iāll just waitā
I never thought of it as anything other than a funny story to tell about that time I got so annoyed with a guy that I invented an entire second basement, but it turns out he probably refused to believe a cleaner fooled him and the story spread.
