Me: *nods head silently, too disappointed to talk*

Him: Seriously? That was the season finale? ...I mean, I'm not a fan of this show and even I am disappointed. How does one even manage that?!

Me: Glee, man. Glee.

Lets face it, the world aint what it used to be. When once children used to play outdoors, build tree-houses with their fathers, make up games to entertain themselves, now these things are replaced by television, and a large percentage of that is reality tv. By this I mean a show about 'real life people'. 

What I want to know is, how has it come to the point where, instead of getting on with our own lives, we are watching others live theirs? while we are watching these people have a 'fantastic life' which is bigged up for the cameras and has a whole make-up/wardrobe/production team behind it, we are slouched on the couch, snacks in hand, crying our eyes out over why our lives can't be the same. NEWS FLASH!! get off your arse and do something about it. Why do we enjoy watching other people so much? does it quench our thirst for being nosey and finding out what other people do in their lives? re theirs so much better than ours? instead of crying over our crisps about how we wish we could live in the big city or go out every night without money worries, or make a living doing something we love, do something about it!! if you dislike your job, quit! there is no point in a life which entails a dead-end job, shitty wages and then coming home to have an idealised life which you will do nothing about, flaunted in your face!

Blogging is an interesting topic I think for my first written post on this new found social-media site. Before technology reached the level it is at now where we can't even walk across a street without checking our blackberrys, people used to have to work to get their ideas heard, fighting to have their take on life published in newspaper articles or perhaps be interviewed on the radio. Other, less outgoing people would just remain in their rooms and write down all their emotions and dislikes of their life in a diary instead, shut away from the judgemental eyes of the outside world. However, with the advance in technology and the access to it that we have now it's no longer writing down thoughts and ideas to change the world in some way, but merely just a constant stream of verbal diarrhoea that is somehow allowed to be put where anyone and everyone can view it.

The world is no longer a private place, everyone wants everyone else to be a part of their lives in someway, even if that way is just 5 minutes of their time to read what they had for breakfast that day. Sites like twitter and youtube are prime examples of this. I myself must admit that I have succumb to the ferocious twitter world and do on occasion send the odd tweet into the abyss, but why? Why do we have this need and desire to let others know exactly what we are doing in every second of our lives? so they can judge us? see perhaps that we are living our lives so much better than they are, is this all one big contest that someone forgot to inform me of? youtube is just as bad, and yes the cat videos are a funny distraction for 10 minutes (not as funny as Taylor and the goat but still), but do we really need the constant update on what you think of a certain tv show, or red carpet event or heaven forbid who is dating who?

Society is being slowly dragged down through the ever ongoing drum of the oddball, locked in their room typing away, spilling their thoughts and frustrations onto the screen so that some innocent passer by might happen to stumble upon it and think the same, or be moved to comment themselves. I'm doing it right now, I have joined this pact that move as one and separately simultaneously, and you faithful reader that has got this far, have too.

Upon writing this post it dawned on me that we might need this. This release of energy, of the clutter within our heads so we can focus on living our lives again. Those who know me well know that I have the tendency to bring up random subjects or comment on a topic scarcely related to the conversation at hand. Are others like me and instead of blurting out the first thing in their heads as I do (often), they right them down, argue with themselves until reaching a conclusion that both their conscious and subconscious are pleased with?
