You didnât understand me I will say one more time show me that one random terrifying scene from the ant, the grasshopper, the praying mantis, and XXX that was not the gory part (yeah it has Gore, but only not the part)
look dude most of the song wasn't really that scary and I already mentioned the really scary non-gore part. besides that and the ending and maybe that 5-second betrayal, there isn't much to show. And I wasn't misunderstanding; I just didn't think there was a point in finding a screenshot that was terrifying without gore when most of the terror is from that aspect.
Show me that one random most terrifying scene from the song, the ant, the grasshopper, the praying, mantis, and XXX that wasnât Gore
THAT WASN'T GORE??? honey i think the most terrifying stuff was gore haha. artist did a viscerally fantastic job that even I can't look at it. it would probably have to be the mid-song jumpscare but that's bc of the sound not the visuals.
Who is your favorite the ant the grasshopper the praying mantis and XXX character by showing a random screenshot of it?
heya! saw you on my oomf's blog too asking the same thing. my favorite is probably the mantis haha. silly little goober. just how he bursts into the song and makes the other two fly off is so endearing

pet peeve is when you look up fashion references from a specific era and you keep getting modern day '[era]-inspired' fashion like NO i want authenticity damn it. i can see your 2020 photo quality and your 2020 hair and your 2020 makeup. youre not fooling me.
hello i'm a historical fashion researcher and i have a lot of experience looking up things! this is a very widely experienced irritation and you're definitely not alone in this, but i am here to share everything i know!
so, ways to get around this:
turn off AI results. they're literally nonsense to us
don't use pinterest because the sources/provenance is often hard to trace
a standard internet search can be okay, but museum collections are the top tier (list of collections below this list)
instead of broad terms like victorian, regency, tudor, renaissance etc. try using the decade you're looking for. if you're not sure of what decade it is but have a vague image in your head, look on the fashion history timeline and just jump around until you find it. but even changing to e.g. 19th century will give better results than victorian
including terms like womenswear/menswear, daywear, formal wear, evening wear, court dress should increase the value of your search too
including "fashion plates" in your search can give you a nice impression of the intended silhouettes of the era. some of these might be a little stylised but will show you what was considered in vogue
for pre-fashion plate eras or things like makeup and styling, you'll have to look at portraiture or manuscripts. these are harder to actually find what you're looking for, but searching museum collections and limiting results to specific date ranges will be your friend
when looking at art, do bear in mind sometimes artists would paint fabric extra flow-y to show off their skills. it might not have been exactly like that in terms of fabric weight or drape. so, a pinch of salt required!
if you find something on image search where the provenance is dubious, reverse image search and you might find a source! i've been able to trace random pinterest images to real sources, but this does take a lot of time and effort and is often not worth the headache
some online resources and museum collections:
fashion history timeline is an invaluable resource if you're trying to get a feel for everything and should be your first port of call. it'll also link to good examples
the met has a vast number of extant examples of clothing, as well as fashion plates
costume institute fashion plates is a subcollection of the met for fashion plates (1800s-1922)
v&a also has many extant garments, fashion plates, and incredible articles on clothing and aesthetics. read the details of the objects because they'll often reveal a lot about the piece
lacma is good for C19th-20th pieces
nypl digital collection for photographs
national portrait gallery or similar for portraiture, or literally any museum in your country that has historical art
national museums scotland can be useful situationally but might be oddly specific
stout style history is a great collection for finding image references for fat people wearing historical clothes. survival bias of a lot of museum pieces tends towards smaller clothing that couldn't be repurposed, but this aims to counter that. it's not sortable, but is still a really nice resource
wikimedia commons is surprisingly handy! and the images, if you should need to link/repost them, are public domain
auction websites sound like a funny one to recommend. some won't have mannequins and some will. just look up historical garment auctions and you'll find some!
anyway, i hope this has been a good place to start for anyone interested! there are probably some i've missed because there are so many museums across the world and i don't know about all of them or can't remember them. but these are the ones i've used the most! (my specialisation/jobs i've had to research for have only really been in western fashion, so my resources reflect that)
Wikipedia has a list of fashion museums. Unfortunately, the page itself is only available in German, but the introductory paragraph is very short and after that, it's organised by country, and then it's a simple list. If you click on a museum's article, the website is usually linked in the overview table.
A compilation of stuff I know about drawing Asian faces and Asian culture! I feel like many âHow-To-Drawâ tutorials often default to European faces and are not really helpful when drawing people of other races. So I thought Iâd put this together in case anyone is interested! Feel free to share this guide and shoot me questions if you have any! Iâm by no means an expert, I just know a few things from drawing experience and from my own cultural background.Â
Hey, wanna make music? Yeah? Got a buncha money? No? Well that's perfectly fine, check this free stuff out:
Vital - A powerful wavetable synth, my personal favorite VST synth, very easy to figure out creating new synth sounds, with the help of the plenty of tutorials that are out there for the plug-in. (There are paid versions but they are completely unnecessary to get 99% of the features of the plug-in.)
Synth1 - A classic piece of synthesizer software.
Pendulate - An interesting, chaotic synth that you can make weird little sounds with.
Native Instruments' free plug-ins - Various cool VSTs, including the Komplete Start pack.
The Free Orchestra - A set of orchestral instruments for Kontakt Player (see previous link).
BBC Symphony Orchestra Discover - More orchestral stuff! This one has its own player so you don't have to download a separate VST to use it if you don't want to.
Magical 8bit Plug - A chiptune plug-in, intended for producing sounds like that of 8-bit systems like the NES and Master System.
Genny - A synth VST made to emulate the soundchip of the Sega Genesis/Mega Drive.
MT Power Drum Kit - A nice rock n' roll style drum kit plug-in.
This guy's weird VST collection - 6.4 gigabytes of weird VSTs, including some you might know, like Delay Lama and MeowSynth!
sforzando - A free player for soundfont files.
Musical Artifacts - A resource I mainly use to find soundfonts, on which you can find other various things as well.
Kilohearts Essentials - 30 effect VSTs including reverb, delay, compression, pitch shifting, transient shaping, ring modulation, phase distortion, and more.
Xfer's freeware VSTs - Exactly what it says on the tin, including the one and only OTT compressor.
Illformed - The good ol' dblue Glitch 1.3, Crusher, Stretch, and TapeStop.
Hysteresis and Fracture - Two interesting glitch effects, one being a delay and the other being a buffer.
Codec - A cool digital audio degradation effect.
Le Phonk - A slick distortion plug-in.
MAIM - An effect that mimics the sound of MP3 compression.
Soundly Shape it and Place it - One is simply an equalizer VST, the other is an effect that emulates a speaker (ex: a radio) and a space (ex: a cave).
Fresh Air - An effect that adds high end information to your sounds, to provide brightness.
ValhallaSupermassive - A combo reverb and delay plug-in that sounds quite big.
UnplugRed - A collection of various interesting VSTs, most of which have free versions.
Chowdhury DSP - I can't personally speak for all of these but their tape model effect is great for some lo-fi style effects.
TAL-Chorus-LX - A thick sounding chorus, good for "retro" sounds too.
Polyverse Wider - A great effect for widening sounds up, really simple too with only two controls.
Freesound - A good audio file resource, mainly for foley recordings.
Cymbatics Dubstep Starter Pack - A little sample pack with some good drum and synth samples.
fishmonger drum kit - A pack of samples from the album 'fishmonger' by Underscores!
WangleLine's sample packs - Free samples put out by my awesome mutual WangleLine!
aaand I might as well include this set of drums I made awhile back :P
As for DAWs, it's been a long while since I've used anything other than FL Studio (not counting Audacity, which I still occasionally use for specific purposes), which, while being the only one I can directly recommend, is paid. However, I've heard good things about Reaper which has a "free trial" that you can technically use forever, akin to WinRAR. Additionally, I've also heard some good things about Waveform Free.
I literally have no clue what the hell happened I just kept adding stuff until it became this. if you're wondering, all the words are self directed soooooo
ND culture is never growing out of playing pretend. Acting out scenarios as my favorite characters basically every single day and night. Repeating the same/similar scenarios nightly, resetting the scene if I do it "wrong" or miss a cue, having it integrated as a part of my bedtime routine. If I don't play act a scenario to wind down, I just don't sleep as well

rolling snake eyes is a bad thing. being a snake in the grass is a bad thing. being cold-blooded is a bad thing. the english language is so fucking hostile for snakes why do you hate us so bad
NOT TO MENTION snake oil salesmen are famously sketchy. why do you hate our oils
really funny character concept i will definitely be using some day: oil salesman who is a snake. introduced as a snake oil salesman
he's a painfully honest and sincere oil salesman. he's not selling miracle cures he's telling you exactly what it is. and what it is, is oil. he's got olive oil coconut oil corn oil. every kind of oil you can think of
Today's xkcd is going to be another hit with the boat crowd. [x]
Q&A: A primer on researching for deaf and hard of hearing characters
-> New website blog post has dropped!
Iâve been blogging about sensitively portraying deafness in fiction on my Tumblr for almost a decade and providing sensitivity reading services on the same topic for a little over five years. (I write about and sensitivity read for autistic, FTM transgender and non-binary representation too, but this all started with a passion for improving the representation of d/Deaf and Hard of Hearing (D/HH) experiences). Iâm slowly sorting through all my old posts from my non-professional social media with an eye to publishing some here, but my progress on that is⌠well, letâs just say that calling it âglacialâ is an understatement. Aside from the sheer volume of material, part of the problem is deciding the order in which to share it, so I figured that it would be a good idea to start with the most basic building blocks of sensitive and authentic representation: the research.
Many of the questions Iâve received over the years are infused with a sense of anxiety and a need for reassurance that the askerâs ideas arenât offensive. While I believe much of this comes from a sincere desire to do right by the identity that theyâre representing, Iâm also well aware that in the age of digital communication, social media and cancel culture, even a simple mistake feels charged with an undercurrent of dire consequence. But being trapped in anxiety over this helps nobody â least of all you. The reality is, you will probably never screw up as badly as you think you might, and making a mistake in good faith is always a hundred times better than saying something maliciously. On the flip side, you canât control other peopleâs reactions to your story either (and you certainly canât avoid the trolls and nitpickers who often ooze out of the woodwork to deliver the most rancid, bad-faith interpretations of a story that youâve ever seen). You can only do your due diligence when researching, be receptive to feedback, apologise if you need to and approach everything you create with the intention to do the best you can.
Ideally, you would also eventually hire a sensitivity reader or find a D/HH person whoâll volunteer to sensitivity read your story for free, but I fully understand this isnât always possible â and during the early stages of story development, a set of critical eyes might be the opposite of helpful anyway. Besides, although many sensitivity readers will fact-check and offer guidance, the initial research for any story is usually a solo endeavor.
This is where I hope this article will be helpful. Iâll start with a brief explanation of some of the language I use when talking about deafness, then break down what your research should focus on, where to find information and how to assess its reliability (particularly when it comes to weeding out audist and ableist sources), and finish with some of my thoughts on how to get your research from your notes into the narrative. There is also a âfurther resourcesâ section at the end and anecdotes about my own experiences with deafness throughout, but this article is less of a âhow toâ on writing D/HH characters and more of a toolkit intended to help simplify and streamline the research process.

here is a master list of great art tools that can make your workflow easier! đ (consistently updating)
Crawling out of my hole to remind people that with this current update to Firefox (version 144) they've gone and dumped in their lot with a buncha lil AI tools, namely Perplexity as a new search engine.
So if the sound of that leaves your mouth tasting of tar, here's what you want to do:
In the url bar, type in about:config
It'll give you a big scary warning page that you might poke holes in your browser. Good. You want to do that. Click continue.
One by one, you're going to need to put each of these into the search bar in the page, not up top:
browser.ml.enable browser.ml.chat.enabled extensions.ml.enabled browser.ml.linkPreview.enabled browser.tabs.groups.smart.enabled browser.tabs.groups.smart.userEnabled
Each of these are gonna have a lil toggle icon on the right hand side that looks like a funky double-ended arrow. Click that and the value next to it should change to false. It all auto saves as you go. Some of these might already be set to false by default and that's peachy.
The next best thing you can do for yourself is to set your default search engine to udm14 or Qwant, but for now, we're just tidying the garden a lil bit.
