really love this ancient letter from a kid named theon to his dad (p. ox. 1 119) because it's so ridiculously salty and rude ("WOW dad it was SO COOL of you NOT to take me to alexandria with you"), incredibly demanding ("bring me with you or i'm going to stop eating and drinking and i'll never speak to you again") and then ends with the appropriately polite typical close to a letter ("i pray that you are in good health"). truly exactly what i would expect from a moody child.

Shanks is one of the funniest characters in media. Like he’s hyped up as one of the strongest and coolest character in the world. Then when you finally learn more about him and he’s like clinically depressed and wants to sail off into the sunset with a literal fucking clown. What a guy.

There are many people who don’t share this sentiment, but I have an appreciation for when a fanfic is so separated from canon that it could’ve easily been its own original novel, and yet the author was only ever going to put that much energy into it if their favourite characters got to be there

Was just thinking about this one fic I read about a prince falling in love with one of the castle’s servants. It had the most specific lore surrounding their individual upbringings and families and how they got along over the years and how the trauma they faced growing up influenced their personalities and flaws. Not a single thing had anything to do with the source material whatsoever and that fic made me cry. I am fond of fics like these where the author clearly just had an idea for a novel and went to AO3 about it

If you're a new writer and you're asking yourself "is this too personal, is this too much, will people think this is weird" that feeling is the exact location of your actual voice. The stuff that makes you want to close the laptop is the stuff nobody else could write. The safe version is always worse. Always. I have never once read something and thought "this would have been better if it was a little less honest." go further. It's always go further.
