A Tudor salt dish, made between 1530-1550. The item itself is made using salt-glaze pottery, where salt was thrown into the kiln during clay firing to create a glossy, orange-peel-like texture. Formed into the shape of a woman in Tudor clothing, it was glazed with polychrome brown with some yellow to highlight the decoration. Measuring 16.9cm high, salt would have been held in the little dish coming out from the dress of the lady. Salt was a very valuable commodity in the Tudor period, and ownership of it was often a status symbol. Henry VIII had multiple salt holders in his possession upon his death, and his daughter Elizabeth I granted a patent for a new type of iron pan in the 1560s intended to increase salt production in Tyneside. Much salt at this time was imported to London from France, but during the 16th century there was a boom in salt production in Scotland. This salt dish was found in Cardiff's High Street in 1892 when workmen were digging the foundations for a Lloyd's Bank. It was broken and the base has since been heavily restored with plaster of paris. It is held today at St Fagans Gweithdy gallery, Cardiff.
liking a ship but disliking the distinct set of stock fanon that they have been assigned is like one of those punishments dante came up with when he wrote the worldbuilding for hell in inferno

I think at some point Game Changer has abandoned its gameshow premise in favor of the far more interesting "how many rituals of the Stranger and/or the Web can we fit into one shooting day?"

The 2026 Gender Census is now open!
[ survey.gendercensus.com ]
The 13th annual international gender census, collecting information about the language we use to refer to ourselves and each other, is now open until 13th August 2026.
It’s short and easy, for most participants it takes 5 minutes or less.
After the survey is closed I’ll process the results and publish a spreadsheet of the data and a report summarising the main findings. Then anyone can use them for academic or business purposes, self-advocacy, tracking the popularity of language over time, and just feeling like we’re part of a huge and diverse community.
If you think you might have friends and followers who’d be interested, please do reblog this blog post, and share the survey URL by email or at AFK social groups or on other social networks. Every share is extremely helpful!
Survey URL: https://survey.gendercensus.com
The survey is open to anyone anywhere who speaks English and feels that the gender binary doesn’t fully describe their experience of themselves and their gender(s) or lack thereof.
Thank you so much!
[ Link to survey ]
The survey has been open for about 7.5 hours, and there have been about 2,500 responses so far. :)
I haven't sent out the mailing list email yet, but I'm about to get to that. That usually bumps things up significantly... 😰
In the mean time, please enjoy this public spreadsheet of incoming participation statistics!

jane & lisbon + normal coworker behavior [43/?] ⤷ 3.02 — “Cackle-Bladder Blood”
Count the Rice is already close enough I think Dropout should just commit and make a horror Game Changer episode. Sam’s voice welcomes you to game changer and you walk out and suddenly the whole building is dark and empty except for you, a couple cast members in scary as shit costumes, and Sam’s friend Tao Yang who is standing about ten seconds away…
and, look, I’m not complaining, not at all, but this is why it’s very important to be abundantly clear and specific with your Etsy witch.

It's fun when the robot character in the sci-fi show gets cut in half because nobody working on this type of media knows anything about robotics and you never know what you're going to find inside. Green printed circuit boards? Meat and viscera, but like in a weird colour? Just a shitload of goo?
I especially like it when the robot appears to have realistic musculature which operates via contraction, suggesting some sort of fluid-driven or shape-memory-based actuation, and then it gets dismembered and a bunch of random gears and sprockets go flying everywhere.
You're a sci-fi robot who just got cut in half by the Big Bad (don't worry, you'll get better). What's inside you?
Printed circuit boards (blinking lights optional)
Gears and sprockets
Endless bundles of wire
Some sort of translucent crystal
Meat and viscera in a weird colour
Random geometric shapes
The cut is mirror-smooth, like I was one solid mass of metal
It looks like... car parts?
I'm actually mostly hollow
Just a shitload of milky goo
Other (specify)
Cheese sandwich

does anyone know if we have transmasc and transfem love and friendship today
We do. And tomorrow and the next day and every day forever and ever and ever too. :)
a long time ago i was struggling with being transmasc because i felt like i was betraying womanhood somehow. then one of my best friends came out as a trans woman and i realised "ah... there will always be so many beautiful women in the world, so it's okay that i'm not one of them". what i'm trying to say is you need to love each other or there's no point to any of this
in a reversal of this. when i came out as transfem i was almost dissapointed because i spent so long trying to be a truly good man. i was raised with a lot of shitty guys so i tried to be the most pro-feminist comfortable dude i could be for the women around me. when my egg cracked, i almost felt this feeling of "shit, are the only men who think like this secretly women inside?" and it feels nice to see that proven so utterly and completely wrong by the trans men i know in my life. i love seeing people take on the masculinity i hated and do amazing shit with it, god bless trans dudes
