The symmetry of this turn in the air!
Yellow Warblers (Setophaga petechia) are small, agile birds known for their stunning ‘circle flight’ during nest-building.
These little guys perform a semi-circular flight to mark their territory.
I wanted to use what ‘reach’ I may have here to share the Carolina Wildlife Center’s urgent plea for donations. If they are unable to raise $75,000 to cover ongoing and future care of their wildlife patients, the center will have to close July 20th, 2026. The services provided by CWC to the community are incredibly valuable, and without them, many wild animals will suffer without the care they need.

Link to donate
I'll be extending my donation commissions offer to the Caroline Wildlife Center through the rest of the month!
Just send me an ask with a screenshot of your receipt and what animal you'd like to request, and I'll DM you to follow up!
An update from the center: they've reached their goal!
I will be keeping my offer open through the end of the month, since any extra money they can get will probably be a big help in keeping their doors open while they arrange more stable funding- but thank you to everyone who donated or shared! It's so great to see so many people rallying around a cause like this.

Chestnut-collared Longspur (Calcarius ornatus), male, family Calcariidae, order Passeriformes, Pawnee Grasslands, Northern CO, USA
Longspurs and Snow Buntings, now in their own family together, were once in the Emberizidae (old world sparrows, buntings, and some finches), along with the new world sparrows.
Both groups were split off the Emberezidae in the 2010s.
Longspurs are actually not that closely related to sparrows of either continent, as was once thought, and are actually more closely related to the cardinal and tanager families.
