Wings Suspended in Silence as a Tiny Jewel Reaches for the Red Bloom by Ted Holm Photography Via Flickr: I sat quietly in my backyard, camera ready, waiting for the soft hum of tiny wings. The garden was still, except for the gentle movement of the flowers in the breeze. Then, like a little flash of green and ruby, a hummingbird appeared. It hovered with amazing grace, moving from bloom to bloom as if the whole garden had been waiting just for this moment. I held my breath, hoping not to scare it away, and managed to take a few photos of this beautiful little visitor. For just a short time, it shared my backyard with me — a tiny reminder that some of nature’s best moments come when we slow down, sit quietly, and wait.
Splish, Splash, I was taking a bath!! by Debbie Meader Via Flickr: Splish, Splash, I was taking a bath ... We have had our first Hummingbird visitor take a bath in our new water fountain! She is a real cutie, and was having fun taking her bath in the top leaf. Each leaf holds about 1/2 to 3/4 inches of water that flows down to the next one. I was super excited as the Hummingbirds found our new fountain right away! Photo taken in our bak yard in Camas, Washington.

Mulga Parrot by Jay Packer Via Flickr: The parrots might be the most spectacular group of birds in Australia and Mulga Parrot was no exception. One of the things that made Australian parrots feel different from parrots in other parts of the world was the degree to which they occurred in a wide range of habitats not limited to tall forests, including short and scrubby habitats and urban habitats. Some species are backyard birds. After searching all day on a long but comfortable winter hike through the Outback, we finally managed to find a single Mulga Parrot! It did not disappoint.
