Hello hello! My name is Tino, I am 19, Hungarian, and agender. One of my special interest is biology, which this blog is dedicated to. I am currently studying molecular bioinformatics in Sweden, so I might occasionally post about that too :)

Glad to see a PHM blogger deride the h-slur 😭 I tried to talk to several bloggers about their use of it, but only got a lot of pushback "you're too sensitive/snail defense/not that deep" and stopped going in the PHM tag bc of it

Yikes!!! I'm so sorry that's the response you've gotten anon, it's unfortunately all too common. People get way too defensive and refuse to admit they are wrong. That's the whole reason for my post in the first place (apart from venting my frustration), to inform people and hopefully change their view on this.

I'm also sorry it has pushed you out of the tag, I hope in the future we can be more welcoming and more adaptive as a fandom.

On another note, I finished the audiobook-

It's one of the BEST audiobooks I've ever heard. Genuinely, go listen even if you've read the book, it is awesome! Ray Porter did an AMAZING job.

The science in that book was mind blowing, I LOVE hard science fiction. Recognising the experiments and everything and knowing they're done right was an out of this world feeling for me. The closer look at Eridian biology too! Everything about it makes me go crazy, I'm bouncing off the walls.

My only big critique with the Project Hail Mary book is the use of the h-slur honestly (although I appreciate they left it out of the movie). As a reminder, because I do think a majority of the fandom does not know this, the term h*rmaphrodite is considered a slur. I also find it pretty inaccurate in the context, since it's not that Rocky is unaligned with the sex spectrum, Eridians don't HAVE a sex spectrum. A more accurate term would be dualsex I think.

On the other hand, the fandom has been AMAZING about Eridians and their biology! I was very pleasantly surprised to see that most people don't try and file them into a gender spectrum, and people are so normal about it and also biologically accurate and that feels GOOD.

I watched project hail mary recently and immediately started the audio book. It's so good, and I love that the book genuinely puts effort into making things make sense scientifically and I don't have to do suspension of disbelief.

Genuinely one of my new fave films and might be one of my top books as well.

It's honestly a bit childish and naive maybe even but I genuinely feel so angry knowing the medical profession discriminates against minorities in research and treatment.

I want to stomp my foot on the ground and cry and scream that it's not fair. Science, especially research, is supposed to be about curiosity. You're supposed to push for new and innovative research that might not be profitable. You're supposed to want to include minorities to know more, always know more. Likewise, medicine is supposed to be to help people. You're supposed to be helping people or even researching to know more and more about the human body. You're (bigoted scientists and doctors) ruining it! You're not doing it right!! Do it right!!!
