If something upsets you, makes you angry or queasy or triggers you, stop reading/looking at it. Avoid things that might make you feel that way.

Learn to use the Sort and Filter function on AO3, especially the Exclude tools.

On social media, block and mute accounts / tags / words when necessary.

If you hated something, you don’t need to tell that to the creator or start pointing fingers at them publicly.

Yes, for this to work, creators need to tag their works accordingly, so that people know what sort of content they are about to engage with and can nope out if necessary.

I will probably make another PSA about the importance of proper tagging later.

You are allowed to ship whatever you want.

Everyone else is also allowed to ship whatever they want.

You are entitled to dislike or even hate a ship. If you want to do this online, in public, don’t use the ship tags for hate posts.

If you see someone posting about a ship they like and you don’t, there is no need for you to start arguing with them in their replies / comments / QRTs / reblogs. Don’t throw your hate in their face.

Do not harass fan creators or fans for shipping something you disapprove.

All of this also applies to liking / disliking an individual character.

No, then you are NOT agreeing with this.

Let me make this VERY clear. There are NO exceptions. None.

You don’t EVER harass real people over pixels.

People have different tastes. Not everything is for everybody.

Even if you don’t like a specific kink, other people are still allowed to use it in their creations.

You are entitled to dislike kinky content and think that it’s ”weird”.

Don’t kink shame or judge people based on their kinks.

This goes both ways: your kink is not someone else’s kink, so don’t push it onto those who are not into it.

Be Kind

Focus on the things you like instead of the things you hate.

Create and unite instead of destroying and dividing.

Don’t harass real people over fictional things.

Stop stirring up petty drama just to get some attention on social media.

Stop trying to ”win”. Fandom is not a competition.

That got your attention. I welcome the pearl-clutching in the notes.

I'm serious, though. The movies we watched as kids had way more sex in them than you remember. Not explicitly, but they had no problem alluding to and implying sex. The Incredibles had a full-on sex montage and a suspected adultery subplot. The Road to El Dorado had a woman proposition a man for casual sex onscreen and fuck him just out of frame. Sinbad: Legend of the Seven Seas directly referenced prostitution. So did The Hunchback of Notre Dame on top of having a creepy sexual predator for a villain who unambiguously sings about his lust for the leading lady. We all knew Simba and Nala fucked at the end of that one song in The Lion King. Batman: The Animated Series had Harley Quinn dress in lingerie and beg the Joker for sex.

This was mainstream children's media by major studios. None of this was controversial or seen as "grooming." Sex was just a normal thing to tastefully imply because it's a normal part of life. Having two characters discretely fuck offscreen was no different from having a villain fall to his death so you can't see the gore. They obviously wouldn't show it in a children's movie, but everyone who knows what sex or violence is can infer what happened.

I think the fact that this even shocks us is very telling of how insanely prudish and reactionary we have become regarding anything remotely sexual coming anywhere near kids. It used to be perfectly acceptable to do this in children's media, but the current groomer panic has really set us back decades.

I can only think of a handful of recent exceptions to this. The She-Ra remake elegantly pulled off a running gag where a character fucks robots, and Kpop Demon Hunters did not shy away from depicting sexual desire through exaggerated cartoony visuals. Hopefully, the breakout success of the latter sets a precedent for future projects.

Have your car break down in strategic places.

Read obituaries to find eligible widowers.

Look in the census reports for places with the most single men.

Ask your friends' husbands who the eligible men are in their offices.

Be nice to everybody—they may have an eligible brother or son.

Volunteer for jury duty.

Be friendly to ugly men—handsome is as handsome does.

Get lost at football games.

Don't take a job in a company run largely by women.

Get a job demonstrating fishing tackle in a sporting goods store.

Go to all reunions of your high school or college class. There may be widowers there.

Don't be afraid to associate with more attractive girls; they may have some leftovers.

Go back to your home town for a visit—the wild kid next door may have become a very eligible bachelor while you were away.

Don't room with a girl who is a sad sack and let her pull you down to her level.

Stumble when you walk into a room that he's in.

Wear a Band-Aid. People always ask what happened.

Dropping the handkerchief still works.

Stand in a corner and cry softly. Chances are good that he'll come over to find out what's wrong.

Buy a convertible. Men like to ride in them.

Learn how to bake tasty apple pies. Bring one in to the office and let the eligible bachelors taste it.

"Acidentally" have your purse fly open, scattering its contents all over the street.

Practice your drinking with your women friends first.

Get a sunburn.

Don't tell him about your allergies.

Don't whine—girls who whine stay on the vine!

Show him you can have fun on a cheap date-but don't overdo it!

Double-date with a gay, happily married couple—let him see what it's like!

Talk to his father about business and agree that taxes are too high!

Never let him know he's the only one, even if you have to stay home one or two nights a week!

If he's rich, tell him you like his money—the honesty will intrigue him!

Clip and mail him a funny cartoon that means something to both of you.

Point out to him that the death rate of single men is twice that of married men.

Go to Yale.

If your mother is fat, tell him you take after your father. If he's fat too, tell him you're adopted!

Stow away on a battleship.

Rent a billboard and post your picture and telephone number on it.

Paint your name and number on roof and say, "Give me a buzz, pilots."

Sink at a fashionable beach at high noon!

Carry a camera and ask strange, handsome men if they would mind snapping your picture.

Make and sell toupees—bald men are easy catches!

Advertise for male co-owner of a boat.

Carry a tow chain in the trunk of your automobile.

Let it be known in your office that you have a button box and will sew on bachelors' loose buttons.

Don't marry him if he has too many loose buttons!

i'm sort of having a mild brain fog moment rn so i can't fully articulate what i'm on about, but i think a lot of able-bodied artists view things like canes and crutches as interchangeable. and they often don't know enough about the wide range of mobility aids to make an informed decision about what their character might actually use based on their disability
