You'll know that you've grown up when you come to the realization that so much of what you used to be certain of as a kid or a teenager is outright meaningless or just plain stupid. When you realize that 99% of the adults you grew up thinking had all the answers to the universe woke up every single day of their life not knowing what the hell they were doing. When people you once revered as something similar to holy- your parents, your grandparents, your 9th grade art teacher- begin looking unmistakably human. You'll realize that people will inevitably let you down, even the ones you thought were incapable of doing so and, worst of all, you'll let yourself down- maybe a handful of times, if you're really lucky, or a couple of thousand, if you're normal. And through it all, there will be some beautiful, hopeful days where the light filters in at just the right angle through your living room and you'll feel like you're 6 again, just for a moment, and other days you'll feel as if you're a dog left in God's hot car, again and again. But you won't stop, and the world won't end. Cruelly (and beautifully), the planet will keep spinning, even when you really need it to stop, and that will be your biggest blessing and your greatest source of bitterness. But you'll continue- you'll keep going, because that's all there is to do. And if you're smart enough, you'll be grateful for it.
