I will never understand the hate for smut. Smut's been a fundamental part of human nature pretty much ever since we learned how to write stories and draw art.
I think there's like, ancient penis drawings on Hadrian's Wall, as an example off the top of my head.
Porn terms, either. Yes, some demographics consider them to be fetishizing at best. I agree that porn terms can be like that.
My counterpoint are people that openly describe themselves that way. "Femboy" for example did start out as a porn term/slur for trans women, but it got co-opted by a demographic and now femboys are their own community.
Futa, too, is a porn term, but it didn't used to be that way. Futa is short for futanari, which as I understand it is an antiquated Japanese term used to describe intersex people, and I have some friends who are unironically using the word futanari to describe themselves because that is genuinely how they feel.
I think the thoughts surrounding certain labels is worth re-examination. Yes, to some people certain labels are offensive, but that doesn't mean we should just blanket assume that it's offensive for everyone. Take me for instance.
I am transfem. I identify as female. I do not want to be described as a femboy or shemale or anything like that.
But futa? I mean, I don't have boobs yet so technically it's not accurate, but once I do have boobs I wouldn't mind being described as futa. I don't plan on having bottom surgery ever at all, so it's not out of the ballpark for me.
But back to the topic of smut. While I agree it's not appropriate for all spaces - I doubt a Homestuck t4t yuri smut fanfic is the most appropriate thing to read at, say, a wedding or the doctor's office - I don't think it should be ostracized outright. Without smut, how can one explore that part of their identity?
I also believe smut is extremely important for, say, sexual health and education. But that's getting into topics I'm not the most qualified to talk about.
The elephant in the room here is minors. But here's my opinion: I don't think minors should be exposed to particularly intense porn/smut - even I am extremely grossed out by gore/rape/what have you. But I believe that smut specifically written with sex ed in mind and art depicting anatomy for anatomy's sake are important for minors (preferrably with supervision from a trusted adult) so they're able to SAFELY learn about their identity and the changes their body is going through and stuff like that.
Now I'm aware that some people may call me creepy or something like that for having those opinions, and to that I say: just don't engage. If you're willing to start lambasting me without taking the time to consider my perspective as someone who exposed herself to porn fairly early in her life, then there's no point in wasting your breath trying to slander me. If you disagree with me then by all means say so. But if you're not going to listen to what I have to say then you're not worth my time, much less anyone else's.
