the man Tav falls in love with is someone different. body damaged by the orb—the circular mark at his sternum, tendrils swirling up the side of his neck, into the veins under his left eye. down to the right, across his ribs, hip, right leg. Damaged muscle in the right leg, mildly compromised mobility, pain, occasional neuropathy. A recovery body after being severely ill and in pain for a year.

he is broad, visibly strong, but not dehydrated, not aesthetically sculpted. Soft in places, padded with the warmth of someone who uses his body strenuously daily, but also enjoys the sensual pleasures of good food and wine. Naturally olive-toned, tan, solid and sturdy. Visible hair on his chest, lower abdomen, forearms; thick beard (kept extremely short, neat and trim through careful maintenance). Earthy. Present.

February 2025 vs February 2026

The other day I felt down about my art for the first time, just randomly. It's not as expressive as I'd like, it's not as bright, or as fluid, or all of the things I want it to be. Chances are I'll never be someones favorite artist, and that's totally fine because I don't need to be. For the first time since I was a preteen (and a very brief period in 2017) I've been drawing because it makes me happy. I've quietly mourned my loss of love for drawing for most of my life, because it wasn't even something I 'outgrew' or lost time for, it was something someone else made me hate doing. I love looking at art, and overall looking at others never makes me feel worse about my own. But briefly the other day, I thought... Dang, this person makes it look so easy. They have such a good understanding of facial structure, i need to practice more, I need to XYZ blah blah blah.

So today I pulled up the absolutely TRAGEDY of this bladeweave piece meant to go with a fic I wrote last year. The angles were a challenge I wasn't ready for, no matter how much I stared at my reference and redrew it it just got worse, not better. I forced myself to finish it even when I knew I should trash it. It was a few weeks of punishment that ultimately didn't teach me much. I nearly deleted it but instead I tucked it away. Even though this would have usually been the point I gave up again like I always did, the truth is I needed to draw Gale so damn bad I refused to stop.

Part of why I focused so hard on the newest bladeweave piece. I didn't plan to shade it, but Wyll especially was so pretty, and Gale looked so intense I couldn't make myself stop. I put myself behind so many other things because I needed to make this look good. At some point later in the process it dawned on me why I felt that way, and it was this one.
