Obligatory Aurora photo. This one was caught on my way home from our main photo shoot (with the good camera) this was taken with my cell phone. It looked so amazing, and it was so bright for being so close to the city.

Wally Dion, Green Star Quilt, 2019 circuit boards, brass wire, copper tube
I SAW THIS IN THE PORTLAND ART MUSEUM! ITS HUGE!
it shimmers like no gemstones i've ever seen: green as malachite and emerald but shot through with opal, gold, copper. photographs can't do it justice because of how it shines, as well as the way the actual material elements have their own dimensions. you can lean in and study all the fine lines of the circuits or step back and admire how the rearranged whole forms new patterns. it's one of the most beautiful creations i've ever seen.
But wait there's more.....

the CEO of patreon posted this video about Reckless Ben’s account:
bruh
Reckless Ben's investigation into the allegedly stolen $200,000 Lego Star Wars collection just took a weird turn
Reckless Ben, the content creator who recently exploded in popularity after a series of videos investigating a missing Lego Star Wars collection worth $200,000, has fled to Mexico following his arrest by the American Fork Police Department in Utah. The oddly contrived mystery surrounding the justification for Ben’s arrest has resulted in a “Mormon Mafia” conspiracy trending online, as those following the story believe that the owners of Lego aftermarket reseller Bricks & Minifigs, who are accused of stealing the collection, are being assisted by American Fork police due to their connections with the Mormon church.

Rest in peace John Blanche.
You we're one of my favorite artists and certainly my favorite painter. Your art defined what "grimdark" means in scifi as a whole. I cant day how much i love and appreciate your art, its style and the art and aesthetic it inspires and continues to inspire to this day. I cannot describe my appreciation for these cold tone missing detailed, over the top grimdark paintings and yet again i hope you rest in peace.
IM LOSING MY FUCKING MIND

La Domenica Del Corriere v60 n29 July 20 1958, Milan, Italy, 36 pages, 40 lira.Front and rear covers by Walter Molino.
The caption reads: "Defeated by roses. Near Turin's Lingotto station, along a lonely path, Miss Guida Concetta Rinino, 28 years old, who was bringing a nice bunch of roses to a relative, was accosted by an unknown young man. The young woman, rather than losing heart, defended herself with extraordinary energy, using the bunch of flowers as a weapon. So it was that the scoundrel, his face all scratched up, had to flee. (Drawing by Walter Molino.)"
Incredible. At a distance I understand how the woman might appear to be the abuser and the man the sympathetic victim, but the second you zoom into the man’s face the pink-cheeked rage- not remorse, or rejection, or embarrassment- not heartbreak or despair- but RAGE- the deeper story speaks itself into your suspicions.
And the bit where they’re HER roses? Almost a relief, but also sadder, as she will arrive at whatever event without them, or with them destroyed.
Do you think when the righteous anger and anxiety and annoyance fade, when she arrives at her destination- will her loved ones applaud her? Will she be proud? Will her hands shake? Will she walk home with company from then out, and for how long?
In this moment, she is provoked into anger. Anger is good- it appears strong. But look at his face. Would you put it past him to linger there after dark, in case she returns alone?
What story will HE tell, of ‘I was perfectly polite, but she didn’t even give me a chance- women like that, they’d swoon for a jerk in a heartbeat, but kind and flattering men like me?…”
I love this piece. It paints both stories while illustrating the power dynamics and struggles at play. This should be shown in art classes
I have never. Seen this specific typesetting mistake before. I've seen editing mistakes I've seen writing mistakes I've seen typos aplenty I have never seen someone accidentally paste the file version details into the text while typesetting.
that's the first page of the book as well like. I'm assuming this got missed because it obviously happened after the copy was finalised. that's an InDesign file (and not the first InDesign file of the project (clock the 'V2')) so idk much about the publishing process but this is presumably final final steps before committing to print.
but like. idk. this is delightful to me. this is such a specific error. wow.

As a society we have benefited so much from successful public health measures that we now have the privilege of declaring that we must not need them anymore
Bitch before enriched flour, neural tube defects like spina bifida were far more common. Even now, spina bifida clinicians and researchers are begging to have salt and maize fortified to reach groups that don’t use as much flour. Before iodized salt, the United States had a fucking GOITER BELT. Eleven years after the introduction of fluoridated water, a city in Michigan found the rate of dental caries among school children dropped a staggering 60%— in an era where tooth decay regularly fucking killed people
I’m literally not even going to start on vaccines, which are among the most successful and robustly studied public health measures in world history
You might say “oh well today we all have access to vitamins and toothpastes and dentists so we don’t need those things in our food supplies” and boy do white people on social media loooove to fucking say that. But here’s the thing: no, people don’t all have easy access to those things. That’s privilege talking yet again
