And how do you know we can’t be optimistic and angry at the same time. Do you think peaceful protesters are not also angry at the situation they’re protesting about? How do you know we’re burying our head in the sand when plenty of people who are hopeful are literally going to college to learn about environmental science? Yes not everyone will be alive to see a better future, I think we all understand that. Things will be different but it’ll still be okay. Human conflict is an inevitability in life, but one of the ways we’ve survived for this long as a species is looking at the challenges that face us, in all flavors of terrible, and say “Yeah, but I think I can make it though.”
I want to personally apologise to every one of my writer friends whom I recommended ellipsus to. I had no way to know they would pull something like this 😭

i can't fully articulate my thoughts rn but like. have i ever mentioned that maes hughes, as a character, fucks me up like nobody's business.
he's a loving husband and a doting father and a loyal best friend and a goofy photography nerd who just wants to share his happiness and make everyone as happy as he is.
he's also an intelligence officer who actively participated in a genocide.
i love that these are things which are simultaneously true about him at the same time. i love that fma makes it VERY CLEAR that there isn't a neat delineation between the Good People and the Bad People.
most of our good guys actively participated in a genocide and chose to survive and save their own lives instead of refusing orders or deserting. and maes hughes is one of the people who picked his own skin over countless ishvalans.
and he's. happy. he has a loving wife and an adorable daughter and he teases his best friend about getting married and settling down some day. he's a good guy who did horrible, horrible things.
and he's not, like, actively tortured every minute by the thoughts of what he did, even though he clearly regrets it all. in other words, he's not tim marcoh. he doesn't spend every waking second atoning for his crimes. he allows himself to be happy. to laugh and love and joke.
and i find it so fascinating that the entire fandom latches onto him and wants to give him a happy ending. nobody wants maes hughes to be dead.
even though he's a soldier who participated in a genocide. who maybe questioned his orders, but ultimately still followed them.
i don't think enough fma fans really look at that hard enough. for any of the amestrisan military characters, but especially for maes hughes.
(also on the subject of tim marcoh, i love how every person who was involved in the ishvalan genocide chooses to cope with what they did in their own totally unique ways. no two characters make the same choice when it comes to how they cope and how they atone and i fucking ADORE that about this manga/show)
so essentially there’s this cool horse drawn into the hills in england made out of chalk and it’s like 3,000 years old.
people carved trenches 3,000 years ago and filled them with chalk in the shape of a horse but what’s interesting is that if you fail to maintain the horse by adding new chalk regularly, it will disappear. for 3,000 years, we’ve been filling in chalk in this horse so it doesn’t disappear.
we’ll never know what the purpose of the horse was originally. we’ll never know if it had ritual or spiritual significance or if it was just art. but we do know that people maintained it then, and, even though the meaning of the horse has long been lost to time, we continue to maintain it now.
the people who made this horse are long dead, but they live through us still, don’t you think?

Gas giants, in almost all modern models, form behind what's known as the frost line in a solar system. The frost line is defined as the region where stellar output energy is no longer substantial enough to prevent molecular gases from clumping together and forming ice, and is also generally the line where your light gases like hydrogen and helium are not excited enough to be pushed out by the stellar winds. The frost line depends on the mass of the star during its initial formation, so there's really no absolute distance for it.
When stars form, the protostellar nebular collapses inward, with gas and dust exchanging angular momentum to allow particles to fall into the common center (barycenter) of the system. A number of steps later (they're not relevant to this), the material has changed from a protostar (where material is still falling inward) to a star (when material is, mostly, no longer falling inward). Stellar wind now pushes dust and gas outward, and what's left of the nebula forms a proplyd that differentiates through angular momentum exchanges and gravity into your materials for different planets. Generally speaking, inside the frost line, you get your terrestrial worlds; outside, you get your gaseous worlds. But the nebula doesn't dissipate for some time.
These early orbits are unstable, and some planets, planetoids, and minor objects will be attracted to each other and fling out of the system or into highly elliptical orbits. The remnant nebula also exchanges momentum with the planets, and its outward movement is countered by inward movement of those planets. These interactions allow gas giants that formed beyond the frost line to migrate inward into orbits that would normally be impossible for them to form in.
As they navigate inward, they gravitationally attract the terrestrial worlds closer to the star, and pull them out to less habitable regions or toss them out of the system entirely. The gas giants may even be in orbits tighter than Mercury, falling into what's called the hot Jupiter category where the intense heat has puffed out the atmosphere substantially, and is blasting it away from the gas giant. The closer the giant is, the more angular momentum has been exchanged.
So, yes, a system with a tightly orbiting gas giant is substantially less likely to have terrestrial worlds in the habitable zone (where liquid water can exist).
Svarog is also too small to be a hydrogen-helium gas giant. While Jupiter is at a transition point in its mass that additional mass actually makes it shrink, no amount of additional material will get it down to Svarog's radius. A lower mass that makes up that reduced radius wouldn't be strong enough to contain molecular hydrogen or helium, so Svarog would be better listed as an ice giant world containing large amounts of ammonia, methane, water, or other heavy compound gases. The planetary migration effects would still be the same, just not as much as say Jupiter or Saturn.
