So as you probably heard and seen, the blog hasn't been my best friend. I never seem to understand how people can write and post on everything they have done and seen. IĀ have tried to document most of my theory research, but obviously I have missed a lot throughout my time but canāt change that now. Below I will just evaluate myself against the 4 learning outcomes.
Knowledge & Understanding (Research & Audience)
I see myself as quite a creativeĀ strategist/ junior planner, this year especially has brought to light how I can extract key insights from pages and pages of research. This year all my campaigns have a strong foundation, this is by having strong key insights in why I am doing the campaign. Because my research has been so thorough it has given the campaign the best chance to interact with the audience it has been selected for. Ā In the end of the day, we advertise to effect our target audience. You cant do this with a boring campaign that been done before.
Intellectual Skills (Creative Thinking & Communication)
I have adapted a strategic way of working, as I have previously said I make sure all campaigns are built on key insights. This helps my thinking for the creation of projects. Using strong insights to scamp, allows hundreds of ideas to flow. I found that most of my projects this year don't just stem from one scamp, its a merge of multiple. For example for my jcdecaux campaign I had three scamps which had their own key insights, but had one similarity. This was then merged into my main campaign idea, and the old scamps were just added into the strategy plan.
Practical Skills (Technical Means & Production)
As a designer I am leaving university with a set of skills that I feel sets me apart from the rest. I am overall a well rounded designer to the highest level. I have an extremely high knowledge of softwares such as photoshop, inDesign, illustrator, after effects, dreamweaver and many other applications. I am leaving university with a great theory knowledge of basic design like layout, typography, colour hierarchy, presentation skills and many other every day skills. But what puts me apart from the rest is myĀ creative thinking, key insightĀ finding, organisation skills, art direction and overall ooh advertising understandingĀ whichĀ focuses on interaction.Ā
Key Transferable Skills (Collaboration & Enterprise)
So the end of my undergraduate degree has come, what next?
I am a designer who is leaving univercity focuses in advertising (creative thinking & insight finding), but like most people don't really know. I can code websites, create mobile games, create applications and many more digital led jobs. Ā But one thing I have found while art directing projects, I enjoy educating and helping people. I would one day love to take my skills and help students in a university situation. In the meantime though, I have been doing a placement in a high school. Watching teaching in both art & design, Design and technology and digital graphics. From my short time there, I have loved helping the kids learn skills such as photoshop, photography and starting their creative journeys.
I dont know what I will be doing a year today, but what I do know is I am leaving with a multi discipline set of skills I could go anywhere. And with my work ethic I will.
